My 22 month old has been waking up every night at 4 AM with a soaked diaper going through his Pj's and sheets. He has a hard time falling back to sleep. I have been using Huggies as well as Pampers. Do any of mom's have any suggestions?

I also am having a hard time getting him back on sleeping schedule, ever since time change he will not fall asleep until 9:15-10:15 no matter what time I put him down for the night and he is also having a hard time going down for nap not until 1:15-2:30

Any suggestions would be great, He used to fall asleep at 7:45-8:15 and wake up at 7-7:30 and go down for his nap at 12:00-12:30.

Thanks so much. I am so tired all the time.

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I will bought some overnights and they have REALLY helped so far. He eats dinner early 5-5:45 and doesn't drink anything at all after his 1 cup of milk which is what I have always done so I don't know why the change. Thanks again.

I know those diapers say like 16 to 28 lbs, but I've found when you get that when you get within 5 lbs of the max, it may be time to go up a size.... don't know why but that seems to help. Also, try the night-time diapers if you can find them (sometimes they are hard to find) they work well...also limiting drinks at bedtime helps as well.

We've had the same problem with the not falling asleep thing!!!! I've always been against waking my son up at all. I always think it's best for him to wake up when he's ready, but the going down close to 10pm thing was killin' us. We were so used to him being asleep by 8:30p, tops. I'm a SAHM, so, we can get up whenever we like. I started setting my alarm clock for just after 7am and I have it loud so he can hear it from his room down the hall. Seems to have helped, though we still have some late nights. Eventually we'll get there.

Yep, I agree. Try Overnight diapers. We had the same problem with my son and those have seemed to solve the problem. Once he's sleeping better at night, he should return to his routine.

Good luck!

You might try the Huggies Goodnights diapers. They are much more absorbant than regular ones - granted, not cute (bulky) but they are made for bedtime.

Another idea - not sure if he's in two piece PJ's or not, but if he is, you might try going back to one piece - incase the shorts/pants are pulling down the diaper a little bit?

RE: sleep schedule. I would guess you can just give it more time of trying to keep him on the same one and he'll revert back. Time changes always stink on the little ones.

Good luck!

In addition to trying overnights, cut off his fluid intake awhile before bedtime. My daughter goes to bed after 8 so unless we're out/haven't had dinner or she's asking for a drink we don't let her have anything to drink after 7. Doing that cut down on leaks during the night.

Can't help you on the sleep time front. Luckily the time change didn't seem to phase my little one.

I use a Huggies Overnights for my 24 month old son. I put him in a size larger at night than what he wears during the day. Example: He wears size 4 regular diapers during the day and size 5 overnights at night. I also noticed that his diapers would fold over and his shirts would absorb his urine with the smaller size diapers at night.

I was able to get my little guy back on schedule by getting him up earlier in the morning. Then he adjusted himself back to normal.

Good luck!

Have you tried the overnight Huggies? They seem to help with my daughter.

I did over nights as well plus the only diapers I use now are Luvs. I have found that they are much better in many ways as well as more affordable too.

Maybe try to cut down on his liquids before bed and put him in a size bigger at night. That should do the trick.

About the sleeping, my suggestion is that if he doesn't fall asleep within an hour of putting him down (at his regular time), then keep him up until bedtime. Then put him down at his regular time. My son goes through these up and down periods, too. We're in one now! :(

Going to a bigger size has helped us. My son wears a six and he is 23 months. He is still under 30 lbs but he drinks constantly and soaks thru diapers so the larger size works for us.

M.,

We've had to resort to two type of diapers for our boys. Regular day time diapers and then the huggies night time diapers for sleeping. We've had zero leaks since doing that. It's more expensive (especially since one of my twins is in a size 4 diaper and the other in a 5)but it has helped with the problem of leaking all over the clothes and bed sheets.
