Hi! We have had to use the Huggies Overnight diapers since my son had problems with leaking diapers. It has worked ever since! Perhaps it will work for you as well. K.
Hi, I am getting frustrated with having to wash bedding every day as my 2 1/2 year old son's diaper leaks most every night.
We always make sure he has a clean, dry diaper everynight before he goes to bed, and we limit his liquid intake about an hour before bedtime.
I was just wondering if any other mom was having the same problem and could offer some advice. Thank you!

Hi P.!
I had the same issue.
What worked for us:
No more milk after lunch.
I wake her up to go potty when I go to bed.
I put a potty pad on the entire bed, so if she does wet the bed, she only goes on the potty pad.
We have found that if she is overly tired, she is also more likely to wet the bed too. So if she has no nap, then she has to wear a nighttime (GoodNights or Huggies Overnights)pull up to bed.
Hope this helps!
Blessings,
G. H
Try moving the next size up in diapers for night time, or they have special extra absorbant nighttime diapers labels as such.
Good Luck!
I had the same problem recently with my son (who is an infant though). I happened to pick up Pamper's cruiser's instead of the baby dry I usually purchase and they seemed a little bigger and he didn't leak. You could also try a larger size for night and/or the overnight diapers.
P.-
We had this happen with our 5 year old when he was about 2 1/2. What I did was bought those plastic potty training pants and put them over his diaper every night. It was another thing to wash, but much easier than washing bedding everyday! I also bought a waterproof mattress cover and layered two crib sheets on the mattress. (cover, sheet, waterproof cover, sheet). that way if it does leak, you still have to wash the top two layers, but the bed is already made! Good luck! J.
When I have had this problem I have moved up to the next size diaper at night and that has always done the trick for us. I have also heard you can put one diaper on with holes cut into it and put another diaper over that. The inner diaper takes on some of the wetness and so does the outer, so you have double coverage. I haven't tried this trick, but I've heard it works.
I had this same problem with my little boy last fall when he was 2 1/2 and he was even wetting through the Huggies Overnights that others have recommended. What worked for us was 'Goodnights' brand diapers. Although they're still a little big for him, they keep him dry and allow him to sleep a little longer in the morning because he isn't waking up wet and uncomfortable.
When our children have been on the edge of switching to a larger diaper size, we always first increase the nighttime size as they're wet longer and need to hold more. I'd just switch sizes and pull the tabs close if you think they're too loose around the waist. Best of luck!
Hi P.,
I've often had this issue with my boys. I find stepping up a size at night ususally solves this issue.
I had this problem as well. I used Huggies Overnights that are thicker and it seemed to help the problem!!
I agree with what the others have writen about maybe a new diaper size.
What is find that works is using a waterproof pad on top of the sheets. I also put an incontinence pad in my sons' diaper at bedtime and that helps keep him from leaking.
Karla..mom to 2 boys 12 1/2 and 11 (next week). My 12 1/2 yr old is a typical boy and the 11 yr old has Special Needs diagnosed as Angelman Syndrome (Genetic Disorder)
My son would also wake up wet; I switched to Huggies overnights and the problem was solved.
P., we had this same problem with our son at the same age. When I talked with my mother about my frustrations, she told me that her neighbor's grandson had had the same problem! Imagine my surprise when that mommy said they stopped milk intake BEFORE their evening meal and had juice instead. I felt like a "bad mommy" if I reduced my son's milk intake, but you can still get the required milk just earlier in the day. I was astounded when it actually worked. My son got his last cup of milk with his afternoon snack and then we had juice with dinner and we were also careful with water intake after dinner. Now my son is almost 8 and can drink milk anytime without problems...the only time we have any wet bed issues, no matter how diligent we are about going potty before bed, is when he is a growth spurt. Good luck!
Hi P.,
Maybe you have already tried this, but I went up to the next size in diapers for him to wear at bedtime when my 2 yr old started having more leaking at night. And for even a little extra protection, if I can find them, I use the Huggies Overnight diapers in a size bigger than what he usually wears.
I know the frustration of washing wet sheets/bedding every day!! :-) Hang in there!
p.s. And if you have already tried both of those ideas, I even went to changing him in the night into a new diaper while he slept. (He slept right through it.) He usually went to bed about 7 and then I would change his diaper before I went to bed about 10 or 11. He seemed to do most of his "heavy wetting" in those first hours of the night, so we found this to work really well and we didn't have to do it "forever", but got us through until he was potty training and would go potty in the toilet before putting on his diaper at night. But don't know if that type of thing would work for his/your bedtime schedule.
My son is almost 4 and still nowhere near being dry all night (which is totally in the range of normal - he's been daytime potty trained for almost 2 years.) We've tried all sorts and brands and sizes, limiting liquid, getting him up before we go to bed to pee . . . and finally the only thing that worked for us that one of us gets up in the middle of the night (usually between 3-4 am) and change his diaper. I usually get up to use the bathroom anyway, so I just make a quick stop in his room and change him. He wakes up just enough to be marginally helpful and goes right back to sleep. Your son is so much younger, you may be able to get away with changing him right before you go to bed (my son is getting close enough to being dry at night that he stays totally dry for the first four-to-six hours of the night - it's later that the waterfalls begin, so changing his diaper at 10 or 11 doesn't help us.) It sucks a little to have to change him in the middle of the night, but it sucks far less than washing his sheets every day (and having him wake up at 5:30 because he's wet and cold.) Good luck!
Have him wear a larger size diaper at night - we do this with my son along with limiting liquid and it cuts down on leaks a lot. I've also tried pull-ups (in a larger size) at night because they seem to fit more snuggly around his waist (though they are more expensive). I also have given up on cheap diapers esp. at night. Pampers or Huggies just seem to work better.
We have this same problem... try HUGGIES OVERNIGHT DIAPERS. Those seem to do the trick for us! GOOD LUCK!
hi P.,
I had this same problem with my son. There more expensive but I found that huggies supreme worked well for us. It's all personal preference. But I do think thats one of the best brands out there. Hope this helps. DebbieW.
Have you tried Huggies Overnites?
We had that same problem when mt son was a little younger. We switched to Huggies Overnights in a size larger than his regular diapers. He hasn't leaked for about 6 month-since we made the night time switch. Good luck!
We switched to Huggies nighttime diapers when this happened with my kids...then to the nighttime pullups. THey work good too. Very seldom do we have a leak now.
We had problems with our diapers leaking when we changed to a larger size diaper, even though our son was alright in the smaller size. He leaked in every one of the larger diapers.
We use pampers cruisers, and love them! However, your son must be in larger sizes than our due to the age... I hope that helps!
When ever I've had problems with leaky diapers I just go up to the next size. Bigger sizes = more absorbancy. If a bigger size isn't an option try switching to pull ups.
I had the same problem, with my 22 month old, and my 7 month old. Both are in Huggies Overnights now. Pricey, but worth not having bedding everyday-and for you it'll only be 1 diaper a day! Good luck.
I had the same problem with my daughter when she turned two. I got some advice (off of this website actually!), that I should try Huggies overnites. They worked wonderful. Going up a bigger size didn't really work for me, I also tried using two diapers at once and that did work some but the Huggies overnights worked the best. I was skeptical at first because I am not a fan of Huggies but the overnight ones work. Like another person said they are a little more expensive but you should only need to use one a day. I have never had a leaky diaper since I started using these.
Good Luck!
Is it time to switch to a larger size diaper? When my daughter started leaking at night, I switched to the next size diaper and didn't have any problems after that!
We had the same problem with our 2-year-old. We tried several different types of diapers, even the ones especially made for nighttime. Save your money; they don't work. Our daughter usually goes to bed around 7-8 pm. The only thing that has worked for us is changing her diaper (while she is sleeping) before we go to bed, which is between 10-11:00 pm. Since we have started this, we have had no leaks. She even wakes up completely dry most mornings!
Ditto what others say - Huggies Overnights are awesome and maybe go up a size. Good luck!
We used Huggies overnights and then when he out grew their biggest size we switched to Goodnights brand. They both work great and solved the leak problem.
At around a year I started giving my kids water to take to bed with them and they started to leak. The best diaper for that is Huggies overnights! They work great at night.
Well, I use cloth and we don't have a problem, but I'm going to assume you are using sposies. Other than switch to cloth, I suggest buying a waterproof diaper cover (www.thirstiesbaby.com has some awesome colors!) and if he wakes up at all during the night, make sure you change him.
My son was having the same problem. We went up to the next size diaper and it seemed to take care of the problem. Good luck!
Not sure what diapers you're using but I have found that Huggies work better for boys in general. I switched my son from Pampers to Huggies at size 3. He's now almost 3 years old and still very wet at night but we use Huggies Overnights in the biggest size I can find (5). They are quite expensive but it beats washing bedding daily. The diapers will be very heavy in the morning but my son very rarely leaks.
Good luck!
We've had trouble unless we use Huggies. I don't know if they're more absorbent or better shaped or what but they do the trick for us.
Not sure if it would work for a 2 year old, since they probably move around a lot more than my little one, but I use a sheet protector pad under my daughter so if she does leak overnight, I just need to change the pad and not all the sheets. I have ones that tie to the edge of the crib, but would be long enough to tie to the mattress frame of a toddler sized bed since the mattress size is the same.
I have an almost 2 1/2 year old and the same problem. It happens to me 30% of the time and I don't limit water at bedtime. (I should...I know) I put him in a size bigger diaper at night and the key that nobody mentioned is TOILET HIM IMMEDIATELY BEFORE BED. Your son does not need to be toilet trained to just pee in the pot at bedtime. I have my kids do this around 18 months. My 2 year old is not potty trained, but he will pee on the pot at bath time, bedtime and before we leave the house. That makes a huge difference. Also depending on what time is his and your bedtime, you could check his diaper when you go to bed and change it if it is getting wet already. I do this sometimes and if it's just a little wet I keep it to use the next morning. It alteast prevents a pee thru.
You have got tons of responses and did not read all of them so not sure what everyone said.
My daughter was the same way. I just moved her up a size and that seemed to help. Also maybe try a differant brand... I have found that different barnds have differant fits so it was trail and error to find something that worked for us.
I use pampers during the day and huggies at night. Both are size 5... she could fit in the size 4 but I found that she leaks more if she is closer to the upper range of weight suggested on the diaper box.
