More Absorbant Diapers!

My daughter is just shy of two and recently we have been having a problem with her diapers getting so wet during the night, that she often wakes up with wet bedding. Every morning she is so wet that I feel bad for letting her sleep with such a wet diaper. We just went up to size 4 diapers about a week ago and that doesn't seem to be doing the trick. I have tried Pampers, Luvs, and Generic Target diapers, all with the same results. She is not heavily drinking right before bed, and I really don't want to wake her in the night just to change her. Does anyone have a good system for keeping their little ones dry at night? a better diaper? Thanks.

I'm with you on that one, my daughter is 21 months and I've been having that problem. I've tried all brands of pampers and so far the only ones working better are the pampers cruisers, and when she wakes up for a bottle in the night I changer her to kinda help. But I don't know what else to do because sometimes that don't work. Let me know if you find a solution.

My husband works for Kimberly-Clark, so we use Huggies (or Kirkland Best from Costco -those are made by Kimberly-Clark and are in essence a cheaper priced Huggies) all the time. We use Huggies overnight diapers (in a purple package- hunt around as they don't sell them everywhere) at night. I also have heard about Diaper Doublers. They sell them at Dominicks and Jewel. You place them inside a diaper. So, you can use the Huggies overnights and a Diaper Double if you need more absorbency. As you move up in size, they have more absorbency in them, so keep this in mind. Good luck!

That happened to my son at 2. We went to goodnights and have not had a problem again. Just like you I tried every brand. I called the doctor and he said I should limit liquid intake starting at 4p.m. I said no way. That was the main time he drank. We can't get him to drink throughout the day easily. So we were not going to limit him. Goodnights have been the only diaper that works and a lot easier than putting two diapers on at once. Hope it works for you. I know how frustrating changing sheets in the middle of the night can be.

Hi L.,

Looks like you have lots of replies so who knows if you will even get this, but I found that Huggies Overnights worked the best. HOWEVER, I HATED having to store two sets of diapers, and buy two sets, etc. So, what I have done instead is I just get the Huggies Supreme. They are amazing! Little bit more expensive, but oh so worth it. They feel better, they move better, they don't chafe, etc. And best of all, they hold about two tons of liquid.

My 27 month old is now potty trained during the day so he only wears a diaper at night, and frankly has been barely going overnight lately, so I just bought the Pampers Cruisers thinking that it would be ok. The two nights he has had them on, he has wet through them. The Huggies Supreme's were barely wet.

Well worth the extra couple of bucks. Give it a try.

Huggies has a style of diapers called "overnights." I haven't been able to find them at every store that I've looked in, but Target seems to have them most of the time. My son went through a similar stage, and the overnights got us through. Now the regular diapers seem to be working for overnight again. Good luck. I know what a pain this is!

I had this problem too a couple of months ago with my son who is now 20 months. A couple of things that worked for me:
1 - WHITE CLOUD diapers from Wal-Mart - both cheaper and effective.
2 - Only at night, I put him in the next size diaper. He wears a size 4 during the day but the larger size 5 helps to absorb more at night, even though he is not yet at the recommended weight.
3 - I cut off his fluids two hours before bed and moved his last bottle of milk to after his nap (around 3:30). I was previously letting him drink it before bed and he was always wet. Now I give him the bottle after his nap and let him sip on water the rest of the night.

Another thing to help you is to layer the sheets on the mattress. It's just a small thing but a time saver from having to pull out the entire mattress every day!

Good luck!

It's just like a maxi pad that you put in her diaper to give it extra padding. You can find them at Babies or Toys R Us in the diaper isle. They only run like 3 bucks for 30 or something of that nature, you'll LOVE them!!

Huggies Overnights. Or if she's large enough, you could try Goodnights, which are the extra-absorbent version of pullups. Those hold gallons, I swear.

My son sleeps really soundly, so for a while when we were having that problem I was changing him at about 10:00 p.m. before I went to sleep.

I know this sounds crazy, but have you thought about a cloth diaper? They have actually gotten very simple to use - no pins, just velcro, goes on just like a disposable. In any case, we started using cloth "pocket" diapers on our daughter at nighttime, and no leaks at all. The inside of the diaper has a fleece layer, which touches the baby's skin, so it's nice and soft and wicks all of the wetness away from baby's skin, and the outer layer of the diaper is a waterproof, but breathable material (not like yucky plastic pants). There is a big pocket in-between that you can stuff with as much cloth diaper stuffing as you want, so you can customize it for the absorption your baby needs. They are a little pricey, and a bit bulkier than a disposable, but very effective. And if you daughter only wets at night, very simple to wash as well. The kind of pocket diaper I use is called a "Happy Heiny", and you can see them on-line at www.happyheinys.com. Good luck, and I hope you have dry mornings soon!

I think that they are cheaper than the Huggies brand and work just as well. :-)They are cheaper at Walmart than at Target. Though most Targets (depending on location) have the Huggies brand on sale...but I think the Goodnites still are cheaper most of the time. Good Luck!

Hi,

I was having the same problem with my son, who is 15 months. During the day, his diapers would be fine but he'd consistently wake up soaked in the morning. We use the Kirkland diapers from Costco, and he had been wearing the size four. I bought the Overnights (Huggies?) in size four and he'd soak through those too! So, even though his weight didn't yet necessitate the size five diapers, I bought them from Costco and they worked. Rarely, his diaper soaked through by morning, but by far he's waking up drier now. So, maybe you could even try the next size up in whatever brand you currently use, unless they're just way too big. Or better yet, if you (or a friend) have a Costco membership, try the Kirkland brand. You can also buy them direct from www.1800diapers.com

I also try now to monitor how much my son drinks. I give him the recommended oz. of milk, and I only give him about 8 oz. of water a day and no water after about 4 pm. He eats plenty of fruits, too, so I don't feel like I'm denying him the fluids that he needs.

Good luck!

Hi L.~
When my son was about 2 1/2 we had to switch his "night time" diapers to Huggies. I was able to use the generic Walmart brand all the way up until then. But all of a sudden when he was about the same age, he started wetting his diaper an awful lot at night, so we tried Luvs and Huggies. For us, the Huggies just worked amazingly over night. I'm not one to spend a fortune on diapers, so I used those strictly for over night only, and stuck with the generic walmart brand for during the day time.
Good luck!!

Hi L.
I second the cloth diaper idea (it's what I use exclusively) - I've never had a problem with leaking. We use "wonderoos" pocket diapers at night and stuff them with 2-3 Cotton Babies Microfiber Inserts. They're VERY absorbent. The hemp inserts are also amazingly absorbent. See http://www.jilliansdrawers.com/tutorial3.html for good info about cloth diapers if you're interested. The diapers snap and they're easy to wash - just soak them in a little baking soda and water to neutralize the urine and wash them in hot water.
