Hi everyone!! I am in need of some advice on how to deal with leaving my 3 year old while my husband and I go on vacation to cancun for 6 nights next month!! I have only let him stay away from me 3 nights since he has been born. My husband and I have not had a vacation alone in 6 years (since our honeymoon)!!! My son will be staying with my mom while we are gone, she watches him while my husband and I are at work so they are use to spending time together!!! Advice would def help!! Thanks
The time will fly once you're in the relaxation mode. You can Skype/ face time with him if needed. You are among the fortunate that have a great solution to child care so you can get away so enjoy!
It will be much harder for you, then it will be for him :)
Your son will have a great time, and you can talk to him (or even skype) when you want to.

Oh go and enjoy your trip. Think of it as a new honeymoon. Enjoy the ocean breezes and the sun and fun and be adults and not parents. Everyone needs a break that is what a vacation is for.
He will have a blast with grandma. They will do things together and bond better than ever. By the time he begins to miss you both you will be back.
Stop over thinking leaving him as he is not with a stranger.
Just remember to use more suntan lotion because the sun is closer to the equator and you don't want to burn.

Ask your mom if she will have him spend one night a week with her until you go. It will get them very used to this, and it will be okay. I'd do it during the week so that they have continual time together, like it will be in Cancun.
You'll have a great time if you don't make ANY mistakes with water there, Chastity. Two friends of mine ended up with dysentery, one from the shower (didn't close his mouth) and one from eating soup. (The water wasn't boiled before using it to cook the soup.) The first friend lost his job over it and the second friend was on her honeymoon. Her hubby deposited her home with her mother because he travelled for work. She wasn't able to go home to him for 3 weeks, she was so sick... So be very careful there!!

He is used to being with her so it should not be a problem.
I suggest you both practice before the trip. See if your son can stay at your mom's for a weekend or two between now and when you leave so he will be more familiar with staying overnight.
Then just go and enjoy yourself. Believe me, you will be more stressed and anxiety-ridden than your son!
I used to travel for work occasionally and I would do a calendar for my daughter for the week I was gone - just on an 8.5x11 piece of paper. Each day had a flap that she could open and read a message from me. For the days I traveled I put clip art airplane and then the other days I put clip art meeting picture - you could put pictures of what you will be doing, so a pool or the type of food you will be eating.
My mom would cross off the days with her while I was gone.
