Hello all,
I'm getting ready to write an article for our community newsletter about the top hospitals, for maternity, in the area.
What hospital do you like or dislike?
Why?
I need to extend the survey...I've only had a handful of responses. Please take a few minutes to post a quick response.

Thank you in advanced.
I want to hear from everyone.

I loved Presbyterian of Dallas (Margot Perot Center). I had to spend seven weeks there with my first child and would not go anywhere else. The nurses always took really good care of me. When I was scared or not doing well, I had a number of nurses that would come and pray with me at my bedside. I did not get to leave to have a baby shower and was able to have my shower right there in the hospital. I really can't say enough about how well I was treated and how secure I felt in the treatment I was being given. Not to mention - it is a non-profit organization and there are lots of charity programs that you can apply for. When my son was born I decided to stay home to take care of him bc he had some problems and was 5 weeks early. I was told by a nurse about the charity fund and applied for it. I was approved and all my hospital bills were taken care of. It was great! My husband only worked as a valet at the time and we could not afford it. So, I think it is the greatest hospital!

I love Baylor University Medical Center downtown. Your baby can stay with you and the same nurse takes care of you and the baby.
I also like the fact that there are Certified Nurse Midwives that work with OBs there, so you can choose whether to use an OB/GYN or a CNM.
They have so many good OBs and specialists. The NICU has something called Kangaroo Care, where mothers and dads can hold babies skin to skin while they are getting better.
Baylor's boutique, "Simply Moms" has great stuff - especially good bras for pregnancy and for nursing.
I'd recommend Baylor to anyone - it's the best!

Baylor Dallas is the best, by far. They are more "mother friendly" and "baby friendly". They will support a natural birth and they also have an excellent program for the newborn babies. The only one that waits to bathe the baby, in order to allow the vernix (super good cream) to soak in before washing with soap. They will give the bath in mother's room and help the dad give the baby the bath. They encourage the mother/baby bonding time after delivery, and does not take the baby away to the nursery.

We had our 10 month old at Lakepointe in Rowlett. We enjoyed the small maternity wing and personal attention we received from the very friendly nurses and staff. We felt that they were concerned about our safety and comfort, and did what they could to make us all feel at home. We will definately have future children there and have no complaints at all.

I also preferred Presbyterian Dallas over Medical City. I had my first child at Medical City and was not thrilled, of course I didn't know any better until my second at Presby went so much smoother. I agree that at Presby they woke me up a lot for nursing but I felt well cared for in general.

At Medical City they let me go through labor all night long strapped to the bed, I had to get my epidural put in again because the first one stopped working on my left side. They only decided to speed up delivery when they were getting busy for the day. That's when they finally broke my water and ended up giving me an episiotomy. I felt nothing below the waist and didn't even know when to push.

At Presby my labor was much shorter (probably because it was my second) and partly because I was able to walk around to speed up the process. I had an epidural, but this time I was still able to feel what was happening to my body and knew when to push. The doctor allowed me to keep pushing without just cutting me. I did tear a bit, but it was so much less painful and quicker to heal overall. I didn't feel rushed out of labor/delivery and had plenty of bonding time with my new son. I think they weighed him and took measurements right there in the delivery room, rather than whisking him off to the nursery.

If I were to deliver again, I would definitely go back to Presby. The food and atmosphere/decor was more home-like & not like a typical hospital.

My vote would definitely go to Baylor in Dallas. I had some very scary blood pressure issues, my daughter got the cord wrapped around her neck during delivery, and then I had a very bad infection that kept me in the hospital for a week (I was very ill) and the hospital was great. I never had to wait long on nurses. My baby was jaundiced when born and they were very tenative to both of us. My daughter was actually discharged before me, but they allowed me to keep here there with me, which was very comforting. I also had this baby without insurance or government assistance (I was cash pay) and they offered me some very good discounts and wonderful payment plans and never were concerned about money while I was receiving care. I actually felt like my care was their top concern which is something that present day is not always the case. All the staff I dealt with was great. My only complaint during my week stay was with some problems with housekeeping, but when I mentioned it to an employee someone immediately visited with me, had the problem remedied, and even gave me a target gift card. I cannot possibly rave enough about Baylor.

I liked Presby at Walnut Hill. The rooms/facilities are nice. Doctors are great and the food is pretty good too! I also liked the classes and lactation consultants available. The only thing that could have been better, was that the nursing staff didn't seem to believe new moms needed to rest any and were CONSTANTLY waking me up the entire time I was there. We're talking every 45 minutes. Finally a lactation consultant ordered a do not disturb on my room, cuz I couldn't stop crying from exhaustion...and we weren't even rooming in! That's not to say that they aren't nice; there were very nice, just inconsiderate.
