Dr. Louis Montanaro on Josey Lane in Carrollton. Josey and Hebron intersection near Library and Hospital. He is very good.
I am looking for an OBGYN. I live in The Colony, but would go to Plano, Carollton or Frisco. I am hoping to get pregnant in a few mths. I am also open to a midwife, but have not researched it much. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I second Dr. Garner! I've been going to him for several years and absolutely love him!
Dr William Wise in Allen is a great, christian OBGYN.
Hi Marie,
Dr. Garner at Plano Presbyterian, he's the best!!! He is so funny and has great bedside manners. If you ever have any questions, he calls you back personally. He was my OB for my two kids and delivered my last one. I wouldn't trade him for the world!

Dr. Paul Meggs in Carrollton is absolutely wonderful. He is pretty laid back, but I still felt my care was excellent. I had several friends as well as another physician recommend him to me. The office staff is also really friendly and thorough. I was uninsured for my last pregnancy and he was so good about helping me keep costs down and gave me a great cash price. He delivers out of Trinity Medical Center, and I was also just as pleased with them. I had my first at Plano Presby, and honestly found Trinity to be just as good (at a fraction of the cost).
If you are looking to get pregnant, then I would first find the hospital that you want to deliver in. One that has a good L&D unit and is close to your home is best for you. Then find out what doctors are affiliated with that hospital. Towards the end of the pregnancy, you will be visiting your doctor every other week and then every week, so the distance may become tiresome.
Having said that, if you still want to drive to Plano, my doctor is Dr. Varadi ###-###-####). She is right next to the Medical Center of Plano (I delivered there, and recommend it.) And she also delivers at Baylor of Frisco (I have friends that recommend that hospital).
Good luck!
I love DR. Mary Ann Franken in Carrollton. I have been with her for all 3 of my kiddos and since she started her practice here. I brave Trinity just to keep her. I am NOT fond of her partner Julie Thomas but Mary Ann is great. Mostly a personality issue rather than medical skills. ###-###-####
Also, you could make an appointment to interview the OBs to see how you like the office or them. Believe me, if you don't like who you are talking to on the phone, don't mess with the dr. You deal with the front office as much or more than the dr.
I am a labor and delivery nurse at Trinity medical center in Carrolton and we have a great unit. My fav Dr's are Dr Levy and Dr Meggs for a male and Dr Franken for a female. I am not sure what "braveing" Trinity means. We have big rooms with hard wood floors and some flat screen TV's. The nursing staff there is some of the best I have ever worked with.
If you want a natural childbirth, stay away from Presby Plano. They have one of the highest c-section rates in the area, something like a 98% epidural rate, and I hear the L&D nurses aren't supportive at all of women trying to do it naturally. If all that's ok with you, it's a great hospital.
Hi Marie,
I had my first baby about 11 months ago. Like you, while I was still just thinking of starting to conceive, I researched hospitals and doctors in the DFW area.
I was in the process of changing GYNs anyway, so I thought I'd take advantage and get ahead of the game and pick the best hospital. I was also in my late 30s, as well, so I wanted to make sure that I'd be in the best facility that was known handling complications from high-risk pregnancies (just in case!).
In doing my research, I learned that Plano Presbyterian (DN Tollway and Parker) had the best Neonatal ICU in the area and was also very well-known for its high-quality customer care (their nurses are great!). Plus, they have 100% private rooms, which meant that my HMO, which covers semi-private only, when available, would cover more. Their labor and delivery rooms (LDRs) are amazing, too...you'd think you were at home if it wasn't for the equipment!
So, I picked the hospital first and then looked for doctors that matched with my Aetna insurance and delivered at Plano Presby. I interviewed a few doctors and, after a personal reference from a colleague, Dr. Briant Herzog was my choice ###-###-####. He is very laid back, patient and has a good sense of humor, which really helps when it's your first time (and you've had a miscarriage or two). I can't imagine an OB having any other personality type than laid-back---especially when their patient is in the middle of labor and delivery with their first baby...helps to offset some of the mother's own feelings of anxiety.
Well, that's my two cents. As you can see, I'm very sold on both the hospital and Dr. Herzog and, as a result, have written a novel!
Good luck to you with wherever and whomever you choose!!

Bruce Rajalla, DO at Allen Presby. ###-###-####. He's great. He delivered both of mine, all three of my niece's and another niece's who was affected by Hurricane Katrina in Orange, TX while pregnant with twins.
