My kids are now venturing onto the Internet (with me) and I'm wondering if anyone has some recommendations for fun and educational websites for kids. I'll share a few I've come across: Google Eart at www.planetearthviewer.com and getting a personal tour of the white house by President Bush at www.whitehouse.gov/president/#. We've enjoyed these, and I'm sure there are others out there! Thanks!

So What Happened?

This is my first time using this site, and I want to thank everyone that took the time to send me a cool web site (or multiple sites). I'm thinking of putting a list of all the sites in our school's newsletter for over-the-summer fun and educational ideas. So your input will be enjoyed by me and my boys - and the whole school! Thanks again!

A great place for activities for kids is www.funbrain.com
Be careful not to type whitehouse.com by mistake, it is pornographic!

a great site is Starfall.com. It is very educational. Also, another great site is yahooligans.com. It is a link to a ton of kid sites. Depending on how old your children are, pbskids.org has a ton of educational games.

Good luck and keep us posted on new ones you find! Thanks.

The New York Public Library site has links to all sorts of great stuff. Here's their fun/games links page for kids:

www.funbrain.com is linked in my son's school's computer lab - educational games.

www.starfall.com is great - pre-reading and online books for various levels, games, etc.

www.onlinegames.com - simple arcade-type games.

Hi L.,
I am not sure how old your boys are, but the US Treasury has a really nice kids web site with games and lots of fun information. The site is www.ustreas.gov/kids Also, if they want to look up something, www.yahooligans.com is a kid-friendly way to do that, too! Have fun!

I recommend asking your kids school for a list of websites. They give really good suggestions and sometimes it can go along with what they are learning. Aside that and the regular Disney, NickJr, ect... www.learningplanet.com and www.eduplace.com are good.

I guess all I can add is bookadventure.org also. You can also do a search (which ever engine yahoo, google, etc) for the age of the child and suitable websites. I've found many that way for my 4yr old son! Happy surfing!

We recommend starfall.com for preschoolers to second graders. It has letter sounds, phonics, and actual reading activities. My daughter (4) loves it. It is free, with no ads, and very well done. A reading specialist friend recommended it to us.
