A Questing About the Differences in Pregnancies

I am 12 weeks pregnant with my second child. I am nauseated all day even until I go to bed. I have vomited some, but mostly just nauseated. And my sense of smell is the main reason. Everything I smell makes me sick. Everyone tells me that I am going to have a boy because I am so sick. I have a 4 year old daughter and I was very sick with her, but not all day like I am now. I have tried Ginger, Preggie Pops, crackers, and even Zofran. Nothing helps. I have an almost constant gaggy feeling in my throat. Anyone with boys and girls notice a difference when you were pregnant?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I have enjoyed reading everyone's experiences. I actually think I am starting to feel better except for when I smell something that makes me sick.

I have been pregnant 5 times (3 live births) and every single one of them was different. I did notice that I was sicker with my girl than with my boys. But when I was sick with my second I was sick 24/7...with my second I was only sick from around 10-6 and with my 4th pregnancy I was VERY sick all day but not at night. Just make sue you are getting plenty of fluids.

Honestly it was backwards for me. My son made me sick up until about 15 weeks and then it was every other day. My daughter made me sick the entire pregnancy even up until the hour before birth, I threw up in the hospital room! I was so sick that nothing worked with me either. The only thing that even helped AT ALL was to keep eating. I would eat, puke, then eat again. Only carbs helped and mostly pb&j sandwiches or baked potato. The red/white mints really did help. Keep a stash of those mints with you and keep granola bars and snacks with you at all times too. Hopefully it will get better for you. Congrats on the pregnancy!

Hey... I am 23 weeks preggo with my third child, my first was my daughter and I was never sick, my second was my son and I was sick like you are so bad I had to quit my job at the time, now with my third I again have not been sick so we all assumed it was another girl but its a boy! We were very shocked to say the least but extremely happy. So I would just have to say every pregnancy is different no matter what the sex. Hope this helps.

S., When I was pregnant with both of mine, I was sick the whole nine monthes with both of them. Anything that I would smell would make me sick. I could not eat anything or even drink water without getting sick. So I know what you are going through. It came down to the point I was put on bedrest, and the dr. had to give me phennagrin to subside the nausea. That was with my first child which was a boy. With my second child, I went trough the same thing although I had to work just to support my first one, which I spent more time in the bathroom getting sick more then what I worked but I made it. I worked up to two weeks before my daughter was born. So all I can say is every woman is different with their pregnancy's. I was told told the same thing that you are being told right now that depending on how sick you get its going to be a boy or oh its going to be a girl. I do not think that it is true. Try to eat some fruit that do not have any acid in them such as oranges, etc. Try to stay away from greesy foods as
they may upset your stomach more. Crackers may help a little, maybe peppermints. You mentioned your sence of smell mine was awful with both of mine, we have a ham plant close bye and everytime we would go bye it I would get sick. with that I do not know what to tell you to do, unless you put a clothes pin on your nose. lol Just kidding.

I have 3 kids and I was the most nauseous with my first child which was a girl. My middle child, a boy, I was the least nauseous with, but I did get sick with my third which was also a boy. I don't think you can really tell by being sick or not. I have heard that it is very good to be sick because it means it is a healthy pregnancy, which I have to agree with. I miscarried about 10 years ago and I wasn't sick at all the entire 12 weeks. I know it isn't fun being sick though. Mine usually passed around 15 weeks so maybe you will only have a few weeks more.

Hang in there S. S. I was never sick during my first pregnancy (girl) and was sick 24 hours a day for 8 months straight during my second pregnancy (son). I definitely noticed a difference, although I have been reassured that every pregnancy is different. I've tried all the abovementioned remedies to no avail.

I had a girl and felt the same way for 3 or 4 months. Also couldn't eat chicken.

I'm not a doctor, but I do know that nausea is perfectly normal during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, due to elevated hormone levels (which I was told are good for the viability of the pregnancy). Both of my pregnancies resulted in beautiful baby boys, btw ;). Talk to your obstetrician if it becomes unmanageable for you.

I was sick all day (sounds like the same as you ---nauseated, never vomitting for 12-14 solid weeks) with both of mine...boy, then girl 6 years apart. I don't think your sickness predicts much of anything.

Congrats and hope you feel better soon!

It's been a while (our oldest girl is 32 and our youngest is 21 -- and 2 boys in between), but I was sick all day every day with all of them for some months. With the first 2 there was a little pill available that they quit making, but all it was you can 'manufacture' yourself. It was just the ingredient in Unisom (sleep aid) and vitamin B-6. Here's the google search for it. http://www.google.com/search?q=bendectin+unisom+vitamin+b...

It was WONDERFUL! With the last 2, it wasn't available,so I had to learn however I could to relieve the sickness. The best thing I found was to just keep a little something on my stomach ALL the time while I was awake. Don't eat raw veggies when you feel the sickest. They don't digest and are terrible to throw up. Drink as much water (or whatever) as you can -- with one pregnancy I found that the clear liquid that you pour off of [home-canned) tomato juice before shaking it up was very soothing).

And I don't think the way you feel or the shape of your belly has anything to do with the gender of the baby! Each pregnancy is simply different as is every baby!

Hope this helps, and God bless!

Congratulations and sorry you're so sick. Hopefully it will end soon.

I'm 36 weeks preggers with my 3rd and my AM sickness got worse with each pregnancy. My first was a boy and I was barely sick, just a few weeks in the afternoon. My second was a girl, and was sick most of the day for a few weeks. This pregnancy is another boy and I was sick ALL day for almost my whole first trimester. So, as my mom and others out there who believe that the sex of the baby has something to do with how sick you are, I can say in my experience it had nothing to do with it.

I'm 5 weeks away from having our 2nd child, had a boy first, having a girl now and from day one I was so extremely tired and sick it was ridiculous. During my first pregnancy I had no sickness what so ever, not even once. Not this time, my first trimester was spend nauseated pretty much everyday until I got to week 18 or 20. I drank ginger and lemon tea and had crackers with me at all times and made it through that way. Not sure that helped a lot but it got me through the day.

I think just all pregnancies are different from each other. I'm on my third pregnancy now, I was sick for 3 months with my first (girl), not sick at all with my second (boy) sick again for three months with my third (boy). So, I don't think you can really tell with that. Sorry the Zofran didn't work for you. My doc told me to take half of a Unisom and a vitamin B6 twice a day, which I did, and it really did seem to help. I am also still taking a full Unisom each night before bed, as I find if I don't, not only do I not sleep I am very nauseous the next day. Good luck!!

That is an old wives tale that you will be more sick with a boy than with a girl. Each pregnancy is different, and your hormone levels have to do with how sick you are or are not. The sex of the child does not effect your hormone levels.

I was sick like you are with my daughter. The sickness lasted throughout my entire pregnancy. I certainly hope yours does not. Nothing seemed to help me either, although peppermint tea settled my nausea some. You might try that.
Good luck and God Bless!

Severe nausea, vomiting & morning sickness that lasts all day, can be a sign of a lack of B vits, try adding a B complex to your prenatal suppliments. It could also be the baby pressing on the vagal nerve, in which case a Chiropractic adjustment can do wonders! It has nothing to do with the sex of the baby.

Hi S.,

I have two girls. My first pregnancy was worse that what you are describing. I had no relief from conception to delivery. I thought I would lose my mind. My second pregnancy: I was sick my first trimester and then it was a breeze. Like I said, both girls. I think God gives us what you need.

Congratulations and hang in there!

I am 24 weeks pregnant with my second and this one is totally different. With my first pregnancy I ate constantly and only had a couple days I felt queasy and I had a big boy 8lbs. 9oz. Now with this pregnancy between weeks 10 and 14 weeks I was miserable very nausous all day and my doctor put me on Reglan because nothing helped and the Reglan did help me just was very tired when I took it but rather be tired than hugging the toilet and be sick all day. Everyone keeps saying that this one is a girl so we will see we love the surprise.

Hey S.!

I was REALLY nauseated with our daughter, who was our first child. Like you, minimal actual vomiting, but I was nauseated ALL day. Lasted until about 14 weeks.

With our son, I experienced some n&v early on. It was was much less severe and much shorter in duration than with our daughter.

Don't know if it really makes a difference, but they are 27 months apart in age.

Hope you feel better soon!
