Frustrated with Kindergarten Already!

During kindergarten roundup, my daughter's new teacher told us that they focus a large part of their time on writing stories. They don't care about spelling, the letters being written correctly, or even if they write any letters on the paper at all as long as they can tell the teacher the story they have "written." The teacher went on to say that her ability to read (she is currently reading at a 3rd grade level and has been spelling small words since 2)is going to be a detriment to her story writing - that since she knows that words...

17 Year Old with ADD? Need to Find a Doctor...

My almost 17 year old son is extremely smart, has been in Gifted/Talented and PreAP classes the entire time he has been in school, but the past two years have been such a struggle with him to 1. go to school, period. and 2. complete class work while in class (don't even ask about completing homework!!) even though he is just taking "normal" classes. If I don't come up with the money for him to go to summer school, he will be repeating his junior year next year. He has told me he just doesn't understand the work (which I find VERY hard to...

16 Year Old Not Getting Her Period Yet ??

Hi, My daughter just turned 16 last week and still no period, should I be worried? I just made her yearly physical for next month, she is very healthy, she has been fully developed since the age of 12, so we really have been talking about it for a while and expecting it way before now. We are very close and talk about it all the time, so she is prepared for it to come. Last year her dr. wanted her to see an endocrinologist specialist, and my mother said her and a few of her sisters got theirs at the age of around 16, so give it...

My 14 Year Old Daughter Has a 16 Year Old Boyfriend.

I have a very mature and responsible freshman daughter who has been "dating" a 16 1/2 year old junior. She sees him at school and talks to him on the phone. I have let her go to the mall on a weekend afternoon with him and he has been over the house 1 time. I have talked to her about sex and feelings and everything in between. So far she is showing me that I can trust her. Is it wrong to let her hang out with him at the mall, see a movie or just have him come over for a few hours (supervised)? I feel as though I am keeping my eyes...

Unmotivated 16 Year Old

My 16 year old daughter is very smart, but is very unmotivated to complete her school work, therefor seems to be running a C average in almost everything. I speak to her teachers who say she 'drifts off' in class. She often gets zeros for homework she 'does not feel like doing'. I realize a C average is not the end of the world, but I know she is capable of more and would like her to be able to go to college. I have taken away privliges, offered incentives, etc, and she says she will do better, and may for a very short time, then its back...
