Hi C.,
Casual Living and Land's End both have Mom-friendly suits. Some as you described above, some with skirts. Casual Living has cute swim dresses. Both Magazines have websites as well. Good Luck!

Okay moms, summer is just right around the corner and the pools are already opening! I was wondering if there are any mom-friendly swimsuits that you'd recomend. I don't want a bikini bottom, i like the boy short. I don't want a triangler top but I don't mind the tankini and I don't like one pieces! I can't find too many boy short swimsuits and the ones I do find are for younger people. Soooo...can ya help me out?!
Thanks for all the GREAT responses!

Try Marshalls. I got my tankini with boy shorts there and I'm pleased with it since it hides the problem spots without it making me look too conservative, but yet it is appropriate for a mom to wear. I have two kids of my own and I know it's hard to find a good swimsuit that fits the way we'd like it to. I paid $20 for mine. Good luck!
Sounds like you have gotten lots of good advice, I haven't read all of the responses but the ones I did read didn't have the following advice.... SO, for what it is worth... I think I hear that you like the boy bottom suit but the ones that you have found seem to be too skimpy (I have that problem too)! My solution was getting bottoms from a sporting store... they are for Triathletes, so they are a little bit longer - longer than the short boy shorts and shorter than biking shorts. I hope you find something that works for you!

I got mine from target. I am a plus size wearer so I was really happy when I found this suit at target. I had to buy the 2 pieces seperately but I was then able to get the boy shorts and a tank-top top with adustable sides (leave it straight for more longer coverage or tighten it up and have a more fitted/shorter top) I love it and have already worn it twice to our pool! Hope this helps and happy shopping!
Hey C.,
I know you don't care for a one piece (I personally don't either because I'm too short) but ShapeFX makes a swimdress that is really cute. Actually they have a lot of different types so you may be able to find a two piece also. I ordered on the recommendation of another mom friend and just went by the size chart. It fits perfectly and I didn't have to spend hours trying on a bunch of suits.
Anyway, here's the link if you're interested... http://www.shapefx.com/store/Swimwear?Args=&page_numb...
Good luck!

I went to Academy and got a pair of "tennis" shorts. They have a built in short underneath a short and are made of a very stretchy polyester material. They are very comfortable and not too short and I feel like I'm just wearing a pair of shorts. Then I bought a bathing suit top that I liked that was almost like a tank top. It's comfortable and I don't feel like I'm showing too much or hanging out anywhere!
Lands End has the best suits for moms. On line or by catalog, they help you measure correctly, give you a body type and direct you toward those suits that are flattering.
You can buy a differnt size top and bottom at Lands End!!! I am a size 8 on top and a 10 on the bottom. I hate buying a set!
I pay about $80 - $90 for a suit (top and bottom) but it lasts for at least 3 years!!! Good quality.
Check out titlenine.com they have board shorts and typically have a tankini top that matches.
Academy has some great shorts for their swimsuits. I also look in the tennis section for ideas.
Hapari.com. Great selection of tankinis, great quality, and they ship fast. I got mine within 3 days!
Academy has what you're looking for. Try there.
I wear a one-piece with boy shorts over the suit. I've seen a number of females wearing this. There's also a lot of cover-up shirts in the stores, and most are on sale now.
www.landsend.com and www.kohls.com both have their swim wear on sale.
A couple of summers ago ( last time I was in a swim suit) I bought some p.j. or lounge shorts from old navy. They were a very light weight material and dried faster than the swim shorts. Have you considered a surfer shirt with shorts? It seems to be the new trend in swimwear!
They have mix & match swimsuits at Old Navy for $12.50 a piece. I just got one with boy shorts & the long tankini top. They have really cute tops! Hope this helps
Land's End has some really nice bathing suits. You can pick the top you like and mix/match it with the bottoms you like. They also have a variety of colors to choose from. They are very pricy though. landsend.com is the website
I just got one at Kohls. It isn't a boy short suit (it's a skirt), but they had a ton of two piece suits that they sell as separates, so it might be worth taking a look. I got a tankini top to go with it and it looks okay. Anyway, I hate bathing suit shopping and I came away pretty happy with this one (the price too!). Good luck and have a fun summer.
I thought that I too would like the boy short bottoms, but I have found from experience that they ride up really bad. I have changed to the skirt bottom. The stay fit really well and then have the skirt to cover a little more. I usually wear a curved neck tankini top. Just my opinion, I would love to look great in a bikini, but I find this look more flattering for me.
If you like the tankini/boy shorts, get that. Simple. WalMart & Target have cute suits but they usually sell out pretty quickly. If you don't like them, shop online. There are a plethera of websites that are for the modern woman. Newport News has cute things, here's a link:

If you're needing a larger size, you can always ck out Lane Bryant's website too. I'd just do a general search for 'swimsuits' or 'women's swimsuits' or 'tankini swimsutes', etc. & see what you come up with. I too love the tankini/boy shorts combo. Good luck.
Get online and go to Land's End and check out their swimsuits. They allow you to choose separate tops and bottoms and if you need additional info, just give them a call and they are very helpful. I was worried about the sizes and ordered 2 different sizes and just returned the one that did not fit to Sear's and they refunded my money. Good luck.
Kohls has a great selection! You can look online at kohls.com.
I wear a tankini with a skirt bottom. I get great compliments :) I usually get mine from the Disney Catalogue as they have great fit and selection and decent pricing. You can often find them on their website on clearance.
Also try Land's End or LL Bean catalogues.
Good Luck!
I totally understand, I'm in the same boat!! I found some great suits at Academy. They have the shorts along with the skirts (this is the route I took this year), mix-match tops and bottoms, just a really good selection although I did notice last weekend they are starting to thin out so I wouldn't waste any time. Good luck!!
Check out Eddie Bauer (online has better selection than the stores)...they have a good selection of suits that are more "mature" looking than what you find in a beach shop or discount store...tankinis, bikinis, and one-pieces. I have one (several years old) from them...one piece, "Miraclesuit" construction. Bought it right after my son was born when my tummy was still flabby and I loved it. Has a little wrap-look skirt (boy short length) attached...it is perfect for times when modesty is appropriate (e.g., pool party at church or at my boss's house).
I actually found some really cute mix and match separates at Wal-mart. I found a swimsuit bottom with a skirt attached. (A lot of the skirt bottoms do not have a bikini attached they are just skirts.) and then I bought a tankini top. I prefer the skirt bottom because my thighs are the problem not my mid section lol!
Also you may want to search for mix and match separates online. I know there are lots of different brands that have the boy shorts available. You could also opt for soccer shorts and a tankini top in a pinch!
Hope you find what you are looking for! I know its hard, it took me two season to find the right top and bottom!
sears had some cute ones advertised.. boy bottoms or a little skirt on the bottoms with tops you can choose type.. good luck I know what you mean.. I am older and I don't want to wear those older swim suits either..YUCK
Hi C.,
Last year I bought my swimsuit at Sears. It's from Land's End (they carry them at Sears) and it's a tankini with skirt bottom. They had a great selection. I just had a baby in March and I feel comfortable wearing the suit.
Athleta.com
Has a lot of suits to chose from!!
Every one of my swimsuits has a tank top and a skirt bottom. The skirt bottom actually minimized more than the boy shorts I tried on, but I originally attempted to buy one with boy shorts. I'm very tiny on top, but not-so-tiny on the bottom, and it's very easy for a suit to make me look like a big ol' pear.
Two years ago I had a terrible time finding suits like that, but last year there were plenty. I have one from Wal-Mart, one from Target, one from Bealls, and one from Kohl's.
Good luck!
Land's End catalogue has everything you want times 100! They're attractive, well made (last years) and cover well without being granny suits. Go to their web site.
I got mine at Target. I got the tankini top but I agree with you that the boyshorts were for the younger. I ended up buying some shorts that look like trunks (they are in the swimsuit section) but they are short. Gives you a little more coverage that the boyshorts and don't really look like shorts. Hope that helps. I feel comfortable and don't have to worry if i'm "peeking" out in places I shouldn't. LOL
LANDS END has the best selection, best fit. Expensive, but worth it for fit & durability.
