T.T.
In my head, I'm a bikini with a very small top.
In REALITY, I'm a 1920's style grandma bathing suit with a skirt to hide my lovely newly acquired cellulite and weird shapen thighs.
I am self aware if nothing else...
Cheers!
I am a tankini with skirt bottom or swim shorts. My torso is too long for a 1 piece (or at least I have yet to find a brand that fits me) and I like the skirt/shorts b/c my tush is still a bit of mush and feel much better covering it up. And there is noooo way I am wearing a bikini.
So what is your swim suit style?

Anything retro/vintage/pin up style!... but I do love an itty bitty bikini too... not that I have any business in one, but that's not going to stop me :)
Well, since this is my year im just gonna be excited to wear one! Im down 17 pounds and have a ton to go but....when I get all this off, I plan to be a tankini with a little skirt girl :)
Swim suit???? Hahahahaha....
Now, a full body suit with some sexy touch AND good support for the girls.
I was just looking at the pictures my husband has of me, all in swim suit from when we met to now...
I giggle because you can see the evolution of my swim suit from thong to what is today, I look good (I think) on all, but I think I did the right decision on when go to the next style =*)
I love Land's End bathing suits.
They last for years, many washings and still look great.
Pricey but worth it.
I prefer a tankini as well, with a bit of a skirty swim bottom.
Life's too short to miss out on fun stuff because I don't have the perfect body--really NO O. does!
two polar opposites
I like the modified bandeau top bikini with tie string bottoms. I am flat and wide, so the ones that don't tie always cut or dig into my hips - ouch!
AND I also wear TYR one piece suits to actually swim in when I am training. sometimes I'll wear them when I wakeboard because nothing like pulling off your lifejacket and flashing a whole boat of your family - LOL!!
I have a long torso too but hate separates now, mine is a leopard print, pinup style halter neck one piece. Meow ;)
The most revealing one piece I can find! ;)
I, too, have gone to the tankini with short/skort model. First of all, I've decided that I value function over form - I need a swimsuit that I can wear into the ocean, for sandcastle building, hot spring soaking (which sometimes also involves hiking), volleyball, and chasing kids. Second, I have substantial, um, frontal acreage, and a bikini top just isn't up to the challenge of keeping the girls reined in.
In my dreams, when my kids are finally old enough for me to abandon them at a relative's house for a week (or old enough to dive with me), my ideal swimsuit is a shortie wetsuit accessorized with tank, regulator mask, and fins, preferably somewhere in the waters off Australia. Sigh. I can dream!
I do the tankini and swim-skirt-bottom because I just have too much tummy and too much in the hips, thighs and butt to feel comfortable in anything else (people are always telling me I look great, but I know I don't like it, especially compared to 10 years ago when I had super-flat abs and a thin waist and could pull off a bikini). But I am thinking I should try to get something more pretty and colorful, because right now my suit is just plain solid navy blue (to try to look slimmer - ha!) and even my 4 yo DD is telling me, "Mama, that's not so pretty." I like Land's End for swim suits, with their different mix-and-match top-and-bottom options. They are really well made too.
im a big fan of a regular bikini top with the little shorts bottoms.. my butts too big for a regular bikini bottom
I do own a 1 piece & a tankini but plan to rock my bikini most of the time. My body isn't perfect but I did lose weight since last summer!
In our own backyard pool with just my husband a tiny, gravity defying string bikini. In public or with company a two piece with coverage. I do have my eye on a Land’s End one piece which is very retro. Rachel D.’s link the other day had retro one pieces too.
Tankini with short style bottoms is my preference, but I do mix and match with bikini bottoms, too. I'm more worried about my tummy than my thighs when it comes down to it. One of my best suits was bought at a sporting goods store - geared toward water play vs tanning.
Tankini for sure!! A few years ago I fell in love with Hapari's tankinis and I will never buy a suit anywhere else now. They are seriously amazing!
Haha - same for me. I'm on the chunky side (to put it mildly) but I swim with my kids all summer long. I'm not out there to impress anyone with an amazing body, I'm there to be a mom and have fun.
Last summer I got the tankini and swim skirt bottom and I felt amazing and comfortable in it. I'm going to get at least one more this summer.
I like those too. I want to feel comfortable with PLAYING. We're at the beach 2-3 times a week and we're on our little boogie boards, throwing balls, playing soccer, flying kites, "fighting" waves, playing balance games against the waves, throwing each other around. I don't want to be worried about a wedgie or anything; I feel less like an exhibitionist in public with the skirt.
My skirt is navy and the top is lovely---turquoise, a pretty pattern that I like.
At 5'10" 155, I too struggle with a one piece fitting my torso. Any excess weight goes straight to my belly, but I excel at sucking it in when necessary ;). When swimming laps I do wear a Speedo one pc, when on vacation almost always a bikini, but at our local rec centers, I usually wear my tankini. I had a fab one pc I spent a fortune on at Nordstroms, but sadly it fell apart.
Would NEVER do a bikini (hate my stomach)...tried tankinis (hate my thighs)...so I'm loving this swim dress I got from Penny's 2 summers ago. I think I'll treat myself to another one this year.
I'm a tankini girl. I hate having to take off a one piece to go to the bathroom. I hate my thighs too, so when not in the water, I wear a skirt cover up. My husband thinks I'm too young for the skirt swim bottoms, but I like those too. I just don't see a point to a bikini anymore since when I go to the pool it's either at my parents house or with my daughter.
well im a larger woman so i get something that covers. my current swim suit is a haulter top single piece and i love it
I do the itty bitty bikini, BUT we have our own pool and I would never wear that in public.
At the lake with my kids, a tankini because it's more practical. If I'm in the backyard or at the ocean, I'll wear a bikini.
Tankini top with a regular bottom. I posted a swim suit question a couple of weeks ago and noted that I have trouble finding the tankini tops that offer the support I need on top and that stand up to chlorine, etc. I love the convenience of running to the bathroom with a two piece suit and although I'm in pretty good shape for my age I don't feel comfortable in a bikini.
