Skechers Shape Ups Shoes--do They Really Work?

I see these types of shoes everywhere now...even winter boots that have the special sole. So, I'm wondering, if you've bought a pair and wear them regularly, do you actually see a difference in your legs and butt? I'm pregnant right now and need a comfortable shoe, so wondering if this might be the type for me, as I wouldn't mind toning up my butt and thighs a little! Would love to hear your experiences!!

My trainer said that they don't work. He could be biased but I don't see how walking in those shoes would give me a butt that nice! I do squats all day long and still don't have a butt like those girls do. They are all 18 year old, never had babies butts.

I watched a "Deal or Dud' thing on our news about these shoes. They followed woman over many months using the shoes. There was no difference. The woman who used them said "It burned" and they assumed because of that, they were working...but they saw no difference in their body after many months. It was deemed a "dud" by all who used them.

I am a physical therapist, and although I have not done the research directly, my co-workers tell us that they do not work and can also cause other problems from the spine down to the feet. Skip it!

NO!

How many overweight people have you seen walking around in shape up shoes who are still, well, overweight? Do you see the tone in their legs and butt? Nope.

Save your money or spend the money on a great shoe with cushion and support.

As with everything in life you can't just put on a magic shoe, take a magic pill, or eat a magic food to make fat drip off the body and muscles to appear more toned.

My sister wore Shape Ups religiously for a couple of years. She's an avid walker and fairly athletic....like a previous poster mentioned, for some people these shoes cause back problems. My sister now has back/spine issues as a result. Her doctor told her these issues were caused by wearing Shape Ups.

Hi L.,

I have the original MBTs and they are wonderful. I've tried the Reeboks on and they aren't as comfortable but don't know if any of the knock offs work as well as the MBTs. You can tell a difference even as high up as your lower abs.

Be careful if you're pregnant. They take a little getting used to and you can lose your balance easily, especially if you don't have an even path. Stairs are really difficult and you can't "catch" yourself if you fall.

Congratulations on your little one!

M.

PS Other than the potential of falling, lol, they strengthen the back as well. The concept was invented by a Swiss engineer.

I bought the cheap knock-offs from Wal Mart and I sure can feel it. They are, without a doubt, the most comfortable shoes I own. I wear them with everything (weather permitting), even skirts, just so I have happy feet at the end of the day.

I have the Skechers Shape Ups. They are very comfortable, but I wouldn't say I've noticed much of a difference as far as muscle toning. When you first wear them, they may make your muscles "burn," because they redistribute your weight differently than a regular shoe. When I wore heels, my calves got more toned as well than they did when I wore a regular flat shoe. I imagine it's the same concept.

I received the shoes as a gift, and I really like how comfortable they are. But I think I would have been mad if I paid the full price expecting them to give me a firmer butt.

I have a pair and love them! I haven't noticed much of a fitness benefit, but that also isn't the reason I bought them. I have a very high arch in both feet and plantar fasciastis (sp?). The support from these shoes in the middle of my foot is perfect. I can walk for days without my feet getting sore or tired whereas before they would really hurt.
I do not recommend them for anything but smooth surfaces. I happened to be in my yard with my son and about twisted my ankle once because the ground was uneven. Good luck!
P.S. I have the Fila brand, not Skechers. Very comfortable shoes!!

I have a pair of the Reebok tennis shoes and Sketchers boots. I love them both, simply because they are so comfortable. I have bursitis in one hip and I walk about a mile or so to work, plus waitress/bartend part time. They have been awesome for my hip pain! Really can't speak to the toning aspects, because I try not to look at my butt and thighs if I can help it. =)

I have a pair of Fila's. They are super comfortable and make you about an inch taller. I can definitely "feel" the difference while walking in them. It's kind of a balance thing tho, not sure if they would be good while you are pregnant and off center.
I dont do enough walking to notice if my butt is being affected, but I do know you are using some different muscles than when you have regular flat tennies on.
My Fila's were on sale at Kohs for 28 bucks.
I had bought a pair of the really cheap Payless brand, they are comfortable too but lost "their" slope within a month of wearing them.
My mail lady wears a pair of Fila's like mine and she has an awesome little figure and swears by them, she does a ton of walking. She is on her 3rd pair, she says she get a year of wear out of hers.
I have a desk job, so I'm pretty sure mine will last QUITE awhile :) Totally worth the 28 buck investment just for the comfort if nothing else.

Those shoes are hideous I would never put such an ugly shoe on my feet. They don't look comfortable I see women wear these & they look like they have issues walking in them they look like they are walking hunched forward. If your over weight or not just do the exercises that will help give your body a better tone up & don't rely on some shoe to do the work for you.

When I wear heels, my calve muscles are stronger, however, I don't see anyone who wears them in my office with a knock out body. One would think by the claim, they should be ready for summer by now.

I work with a podiatrist and he said that they have been using shoes like that for years. But if you have any knee problems you shouldn't wear them.

I don't know if they work or not, but i definitely wouldn't reccommend them for a pregnant woman, your body is already thrown off balance becasue of the shiftin your center of gravity, then to put on shoes that look like a rocking chair runner....probably a dangerous combo.
