I was wondering if anyone has purchased the Shape up or tone up shoes. I know Sketchers makes a pair.....Are they worth the pricey tag? Does it really do some toning? Are they comfortable? What brand is the best?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the comments. I work outside all day on my feet, and I think I may go ahead and invest in a pair. Couldn't hurt!

YESSSS they are very comfortable and so worth the price. I can't say if they are shaping me up since I have a layer of fat everywhere :) But I know for a fact that I could not stand the aches and pains without them. They have helped my feet so much I can't even begin to say how much. They also make me feel very energized when I walk with them. They really put a spring in the step.

I wore my MBT's for 4 years and I just threw them away. I didn't know they would re do the soles. They lasted a long time since I only where these shoes. My feet are so bad at one point I thought I would end up in a wheel chair.

I replaced these with the Sketcher shoe and they are just as nice as my MBT's ever were and I paid 100 instead of 250.

I bought some Sketchers Shape Ups as our shoe store here in town refused to stock the Reboks. He said he tried them and because they are nothing but two 'balls' (like bose balls) one on the toe and one on the heel with a sole in between, they were too unstable and refuses to sell them. So, for the cheaper price tag compare to the MBT's, Sketchers it is!

I love them! They do look a little funny (my husband likes them though, he says they make me look younger, kind of teeny bopperish). Because I am 33 weeks pregnant I cannot attest to toning, but they are the cushiest, most comfortable pair of shoes I have EVER had. I am not a light woman either. I am currently about to break 200 lbs due to this pregnancy, and let me tell you, I can walk on these shoes all day! In fact, when I first got them and they were not all slushy from the snow outside, I wore them around the house just because!

Hi K.,

I have MBTs which were the original and they are all they say they are. (My sister has a pair and my husband has two.) MBTs are pricey, about $250.00 a pair, but the company will resole/rework the shoe for life for a small price. My legs and abdominal muscles are tone and that was not from routine workouts. I did drop a few pounds when I first started wearing them and I wear them anytime I know I'm going to be walking. They do force your to stand up straight and they align your body when your are walking so fatigue is not as intense as it normally would be.

The only down side I have found is they are a little heavier than regular sneakers so if you're going to be in them all day you may get a little more tired than usual. You don't want to wear them if you are going up and down a step ladder like I have to do at home. Sketchers, in general, never fit my feet right so I've never tried a pair. This is my first pair of MBTs, which I've had 2 years, but it won't be my last. They have started making dress shoes and boots now and they have always had the sandals. If you shop online, the websites that carry them always have some on sale. If you go to a store and they size you, then you can buy them anytime you find them on the internet. The insides of the shoes are the same, pair to pair...don't know about the other brands.

Hope I helped!

M.

I don't have them...but my MIL has the sketcher ones and she claims they really do work. A woman at my daughters ballet has the Reebox ones and she says they work too. Those are the only 2 people I know of...but personally if I was going to buy them I'd get the Reebox ones. The Sketchers are kindof funny looking. I did try my MIL's on too and it felt like you were walking on a moonbounce...would take some getting used to but they were comfy.

I considered the shape-ups b/c I work 12 hr shifts on my feet, but ended up going with the Easy Spirit brand, they are called "anti-gravity". I love them especially for my 12 hr days or kickboxing or aerobics at the gym. A couple of friends I know do have the Sketchers brand and they needed a breaking in time, but not mine, they were great from day one. Alot of people I know have the MBT's too, but mine were only around $50 compared to $200 plus.

I have the Skechers Shape Ups and think they do help some. They make you walk straighter and longer due to the shape. I haven't really felt anything in my waist area but I do feel more muscles working in my legs when I walk. They do take some getting used to but they are comfortable. Not sure if you have a Kohls card but what I did was wait until I got a 30% off coupon and then bought them. It took a little bit of the cost out. =) Today I walked on my treadmill and then immediately went to cardio so I decided to wear my regular tennis shoes, what a difference. My old tennis shoes are getting thrown away due to the discomfort after 15 minutes of walking. I can walk for ever on the Skechers because they are very comfortable. Good luck with what ever shoe you decide on.

I am a nurse and on my feet all day. I got the curves brand from Avon (around $40). I love them, they are very comfortable even after being on my feet for 8 hours. I think every bit helps in my workout journey.

Pesonally, I think Glider shape n tone shoes are the best. (www.shop.beebesports.com )
Very comfortable to wear and seem to have extra cushion. I can definitely feel my legs and butt tightening up. And, very reasonably priced.

I owned a pair of skechers and they were ok, but the best pair I have owned are the Glider shape n tone shoes. These seemed to have more cushion and are lower price than skechers and others. They only have two colors right now, the white ones I have are real nice looking shoes. These Gliders really make my back and legs feel better at the end of the day. I purchased my Gliders

Tell you what. I finally broke down and bought a pair of Skechers Shape-Ups and the very first try my calves were begging for mercy, stomach muscles felt worked and my butt was tight and on fire! Honest! They are amazing - like walking in soft sand, not the hard sand at waters edge, but that soft sand that you really have to work to walk in. But, they recommend that you do NOT wear them for more than 25 mins until you learn how to walk and get used to the added exercise. And, this is so very true! You can check them out at http://womenswalkingshoes.walkinsarewelcome.com - this seems to be a great website and has some good prices on these shoes. Bottom line - I do think they are worth the high-dollar price tag!

i bought the generic brand from kmart, and they are the most comfortable shoes i have ever worn. they required no "breaking in" period, and have lots of padding. they way the sole is shaped, i no longer walk with the toe of my foot angled out, and that has reduced the pain/fatigue in my ankles and knees to nothing from pretty significant (i didnt even know i was doing it until the shoe corrected it!). i have not noticed a difference in my thighs, bottom, or abs. that being said, i would reccomend them just for the comfort level alone. :)

I just wanted to say that there are other shoe manufactures that are making them now too. I just discovered yesterday that Dr. Scholls is making them too and probably others.

I have the skechers brand. they are fairly new to me but i have worn them, on the treadmill 4 times and I do feel the burn the back of my legs and butt. so I think they do work and will help me lose weight (tone up) once i use them more regularly.
