V.S.
I have a pop up blocker, and I haven't seen anything. I'd bet it's a scam, but without seeing it, I have no idea.
Today, when I wanted to access mamapedia I received a Message stating that mamapedia lost their security license 29 days ago. That hackers could gain access to our private information thru mamapedia..such as bank accounts.
Has anyone else received this information. Reluctantly, I'm staying off the site until this is fixed.
Thank you Vadis O. You have reassured me. I'm back.
The message said that someone could get into my computer through mamapedia. They could access bank accounts etc that are on the Internet but not on mamapedia's site. . I will check for malware. The message didn't say I needed to do anything. It did have a link to mamapedia after the warning.also a couple of 1 0r 2 word boxes which I did not click on.
Ididn't receive the warning when I came on the site now.
I think Chesma has given the reason behind this. I too only got the warning when I clicked on newsletter. I didn't realize there are 2 accounts: mamasource and mamapedia. I thought they had just changed the name but stayed on the same site.
Of course mamapedia does not have anyone's bank info. The hacker, according to this message would be able to reach private information by going past thru mamapedia to get information on my computer Then use that information to gain acess on the Internet. I don't know how it works.
Of course none of our private information is on mamapedia's Web site. And.....no one can track you down even when you use your actual name and location unless they know you. Think about it. My true name is M. P and I live in portland. My email address is not visible or available to anyone except mamapedia staff. How could anyone find me in this large city? Yes other members can send you a pm. How could that harm you?
I have a pop up blocker, and I haven't seen anything. I'd bet it's a scam, but without seeing it, I have no idea.
I have not received it.
Is there a difference between the mamapedia Q&A site and their marketplace? Could it be referencing their marketplace where account information could be saved?
I guess I'm just thinking aloud.
Why would mamapedia have your banking information?
Hi All,
First, thanks to all the great community members for posting on this thread with information about this issue.
We have been busy in the background working on improving many aspects of Mamapedia, one of them being industry leading site security for all users.
Today we had some issues with our recent changes and unfortunately some users were presented with a message that appeared to indicate the site wasn't safe. This was in fact not the case, but rather a by-product of the changes we were making (a little ironic unfortunately).
We want to assure all of our users that the site is safe and you should continue to use it as your normally would.
Thanks again for the feedback and proactive posting. We are busy working on some exciting changes to check back regularly!
Warmest regards,
V.

No, M., I didn't know this. Guess I'll have to ask my husband (he does online security for his company, he'll know.).
I've gotten no such message. As a matter of fact, if there were some sort of security issue with the site, I would not be able to access it from my work computer at all. I think you're safe from MMP itself, but I'd be worried that you have some sort of malware on your computer that is causing that message.
i got the 'unsecured site' message too.
since i'm a luddite, i have no clue whether that means that my MP info is vulnerable (who cares) or that my entire computer, which does contain sensitive info, is at risk.
but since i'm also an idiot, i just clicked past it and came onto the site.
really, i'm lucky that the modern world hasn't caused me to burst into flames yet.

M., you need to get your computer checked out. That sounds like the type of malware that says your computer is infected, purchase our product and we will make it all better. The easiest way to tell if it is malware is did they give you this information and quote you a price to fix the problem? If that is the case I hope you didn't click any of their links because they probably installed more malware on your computer.
WELCOME Valdis O!
Are you perhaps another moderator? Might we 'friend' you so 'we' can address concerns in a more timely fashion?
Perhaps YOU could share some of the kinds of changes that members here might anticipate?
I cannot speak for the whole community, but I for one wait with bated breath to hear about/see changes to make this site more secure and user friendly.
Might you just give a few small hints?
Pretty please?
I just looked at the SSL cert for this site, and it says it's good until 9/18/15. I haven't seen that message, but it looks like all is secure to me. At least for *.mamapedia.com domain.
Looks like the expired SSL cert is on mamasource.com (expired at the end of March).
ETA: The message you saw is not malware. It's a legitimate browser warning letting you know that the site you are about to enter is not secure, and to basically "enter at your own risk." Whenever you see this message on any site, just close out your browser window and do not click through. Simple as that.
I'm no computer expert, but the address bar at the top of my screen still has the "https" part of the address in green with a lock next to it - which is Google Chrome's way of saying it's a secure site.
Also, I don't put personal info on here, not even in my profile so there is nothing to steal. The only thing that they have is 'secure' (that is, it doesn't show up on my profile for everyone to see) is the email account I used to register - and I have a generic, non-personal, web-based email account that I use for all website logins. I would encourage you to do the same.
I received no such notice.
I would scan my computer if I'd seen that. Might be generic malware.
I get the daily newsletter in my e-mail. I got the message you are talking about when I clicked on "read more and share your comments" for the "blog of the day". It opened in a new tab, and the tab headline reads "privacy error" It claims hackers may be trying to steal private information and gives both an option to advance or to go "back to safety". The security lock in the address bar has a red x over it and the address itself is mamasource, not mamapedia. I just closed out the tab. When I click on the "Mamapedia Newsletter" heading it brought me directly to the homepage and the green security lock is in the address bar.
I'm no computer expert, but I think the old mamasource site may finally be outdated and the security to it expired.
Well, since I haven't provided MP my bank account information, I take it to be a crock of poo.
The message I got referenced mamasource.com, rather than mamapedia.com.
Didn't get any such messages when I came here, clicked on "home" and then on the link to today's featured blog.
My daughter got one for Google last night. A box came up to click on a link to view the certificate. She could not get into Google to do a search. We shut down the computer, brought it back up and did a security scan. Then everything was fine.
Gidget, that was my first question too.
Thanks for the info.
I have not gotten the message.
i have not got the message either. hope its still secure.
