Glitch Error, Attn Mike?

I have been having problems with Mamapedia for a few weeks now. Anyone else?

When I come here I will have a hard time getting questions to open in new tabs. They stay blank for minutes then suddenly pop up and have error messages that go across the top saying something has crashed. Do I want to reload the page? If I don't then I get the "Aww Snap" error in a few moments and lose my whole answer.

I have this happen on every tab. I usually only open two or three extra tabs, answer a question, then close that tab and open a new one for another question.

Is it possibly you guys have upgraded and there's a glitch? Or that someone has installed a virus on the page?

This is NOT happening on any other site I visit so that's why I'm asking you.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Mike, the reason I noted how many tabs I have open is for reference for the tech guys. Normally I can come to mamapedia, open EVERY new question in it's own tab, move from tab to tab, and have zero problems. It's not a "my computer is too busy with too many pages going on" sort of thing.

I've worked tech support before and know that can be an issue. I've also cleared my cache and reset settings. Still can't type more than a few letters and I suddenly I'm on a completely different place on the page, maybe all the way at the bottom on the first response to the question.

I have had to start copying and pasting to sticky notes every new paragraph so that when I lose the page I can come back and put my answer back in the box.

I answer a question about Facebook a few minutes ago, it took over an hour and reloading the page numerous times to get my answer to stay and complete.

It's frustrating but I'm sure your tech guys will figure it out.

I am glad to see that others are having similar issues so that I know it's not my computer now.

Thank you Mike!! We appreciate you and your team.

It takes a while for answers to load, so if I click "post" and then do something else before my answer uploads, I lose the whole thing. I have often written my response in a Word document, then copied it and pasted it into the Mamapedia box. If it gets lost, at least I have it in another format and can re-copy vs. reconstruct it from scratch!

But I also find it makes a ton of sense to close out those multiple tabs.

I've never had the issue that you are describing, but just in case you haven't tried this (& It is the 1st advice IT will ALWAYS give!):

Try closing out all tabs, then shut down your browser & restart your computer. By restart - turn it off, wait 5 minutes, then turn it back on.

See if that helps, sometimes the computer stores information from prior website use & gets confused, this gives it a "time out" to think about what it's doing. T. :)

Sounds like you have a virus, not the site. I currently have 12 tabs running, 3 for this site, no issues.

When is the last time you scanned for malware?

Oh what makes this site a bit different is the amount of ads that load along with the pages. Even with adblock installed it takes longer and that will make the effects of malware more obvious. It is probably happening to all your pages

I'm sorry you're having such difficulties Gamma.
I just haven't had any of those issues.
On my laptop I use Firefox with Adblock Plus, NoScript and FlashBlock add-ons and the site works perfectly for me.
On my ipad I use AdBlock browser and that works well for me too.

Hi Gamma,

Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention. I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing this and I apologize for the frustration it must be causing.

I have directed the matter to our tech department for consideration. It's at least helpful for them to be aware of the problem even if we may not have an immediate solution for you. I have not run into a specific tab loading issue before myself, and to be honest it may in fact be related to your specific computer, but certainly not necessarily. If we discover any specific bug and or solution I will certainly let you know.

We are striving every day to not only maintain the site but also to make key technical improvements to make your Mamapedia experience the best one possible. Admittedly there is still room for improvement, but letting us know about issues such as this certainly helps us to make the site better for everyone. Thanks again Gamma.

It takes forever for me to give flowers. I have to leave the page loaded, go do an errand, come back and then maybe I can send a flower.

If it makes you feel any better, you aren't the only one having trouble, though maybe not the exact same trouble. I kept losing posts I had written, clicked on post, and then they just wouldn't post. And sometimes I have to click post several times to get it to go. Frustrating...

I am still having trouble answering questions. I start to type and the letters don't appear or parts of words will appear and I have to go back and correct what I have typed.

I have had this issue, as well as the issue someone else mentioned below about text not appearing or taking a long time to appear after typing it in the "answer" box. I rebooted my computer, thinking it would help, but it did not. When it took over 2 hours for me to try to respond to someone's question last night, I closed the tab and gave up on responding altogether. Like you, I never had problems with other pages or tabs, just the Mamapedia questions and answers section. Now that I am responding to this question, it takes a while for text to load, but I have noticed there is a LOT of advertising software on these pages, and I think that is what is affecting our computers. Music will randomly start playing from the advertisements, ads from this page will start to flash, videos from the advertisements play over and over, and sometimes I am asked to respond to surveys if I want to continue reading posts or comments. There are a lot of scripts and ads running simultaneously on this page, which irritates me to no end, and sometimes they are incompatible with each other and crash. I guess Mamapedia has to find sponsors somehow to keep alive and be able to pay their folks, so countless ads and scripts are something we just have to put up with.
