Does anyone own or have experience with digital cameras for kids? I'm considering buying one for my daughter for Christmas. I see there are a few brands including Fisher Price that make them, but I'd really like to hear some opinions from moms whose kids have used them.

The Fischer Price one RAWKS! It has been dropped, kicked, and pulled at (all the kids want it) and it still keeps on ticking. My daughter has a SANDISK in it that allows her to take a zillion photos at a time too. So I love that. I don't have to remove photos after every use.

I know this isn't a digital camera but they also have the mini polaroid cameras that develop pictures onto peel off stickers. Girls find these fun and I think they even have them in different colors.
My 4 year old daughter got the FP KidTough one for Christmas and loves it! She loves being able to see her pictures right away on the LCD screen. Yes the resolution is poor, but the pics she takes aren't the greatest. I print them out on my computer at a pretty small size (2x3) so they look a little sharper and it makes for great mini-scrapbooks that she helps put together. They are very durable too. It's been knocked off tables numerous times and nothing has affected it. I just bought my 3 year old one for her birthday as well since she always wants to play with it too. I got in on sale at TRUS since I believe FP is updating their model this fall. My advice would be to get one early because by Christmas, they were pretty hard to find.
Our 3 1/2 yo daughter received the FP one for Christmas and she and we actaully like it. Yes, it has low megapixels but it does take good pictures for a point and shoot. It's the general guidleines that you can't be more than 3 feet from the object and to hold the camers still. Under these circumstances, the pix come out great. Of course she takes pictures that are not so good but she is only 3 1/2! I like the durability of this camera. The major negative I have with it is that it's too easy to erase the pix. All you have to do is push the red button twice. She's taken many pictures that we've had printed and put into her own scrapbook. I think a lot of it has to do with the child's age and how well they can handle a camera as well as how much you are willing to spend on something that may get broken rather easily (by a toddler).

I have heard alot of people say that they take poor pictures because the mega pixels are low. My 3 1/2 year old son loves to take pictures and we were looking into buying an upgraded digital camera anyway since ours was quite old. So, we upgraded our digital camera and give him our old one- which still takes nice picutes that can actually be printed (that is...if a 3 1/2 year old can manage to take anything beside pics of ceilings, his fingers and mommy and daddy's behinds). So, maybe if your digital camera isn't exactly the newest and greatest anymore, just upgrade yours and give your child the old one (granted- this is alot more expensive than a kids digital camera- but you will be getting a better one for yourself and still a quality one for your child).

Crayola has a digital camera out there. It is really great to use and easy. I believe Best Buy has them

My daughter received the Fisher Price Kid Tough camera for her b-day and it's great for her. It is SOOOO durable and it works like an actual digital camera. You hook it up to the computer and upload photos as you would a regular camera. It's about $60.00 at Target or Toys R Us. I HIGHLY recommend it.

They are great and fun to use, but the actual pictures are pretty useless because the resolution is terrible. So great if your child really likes to take pictures, but probably wouldn't plan on ever developing the pictures.
We got the FP camera for the holidays last year and my daughter 2 and son 6 both still love to play with it!

These days they make digital cameras that are very inexpensive. See if you could find one at Walmart, Kmart, Target or Walgreens. I don't know about Fisher Price, but maybe a non-kid type camera could be the way to go.
Depending how old your daughter is, she might like the camera that is more adult looking. my 10 year old daughter uses my old camera that I replaced. She loves it and uses it all the time.
Get the one made by fisher price. My twins have them and they are so easy and durable. They are definately worth the money. The Times newspaper had done a study on them last year..they brought a bunch of the fisher price digital cameras to an elementary school in the area and let the kids play w/them all day. They had been dropped, stepped on, etc. and still worked at the end of the day. I would also check out consumer reports, but my personal experience w/the cameras have been great.
we have the fisher price one since xmas and it does take pics and is very rugged but the quality of the photo is the same as a $10 digital camera.the pics suck!!!!but the camera holds up for my 5 years old
I haven't used it myself, but I've heard from friends that the Fisher Price camera is great.....very durable (can stand up to the "oops" moments that kids seem to have alot lol)
Love the Fisher Price one! A friend of mine bought a regular one b/c it was so much cheaper and it broke right away.
