There are many articles and helpful links on the internet. Try to Google "potty train a boy" or a phrase like that.

Believe me it is SO great when they are finally potty
trained :-) Don't sweat it though if he's not ready yet. He won't go to college in diapers. Good Luck

I got my daughter a couple Potty Training DVDs, let her watch them. Then I just put the underwear on her. Yes, she went in her pants, and it was a little frustrating at first getting new underwear every couple hours, but after about a week, she got it, she was able to hold it if she needed too. I mean the only way they learn is to just do it. That is what worked for me. Doesn't work for every child, but it did for mine. Good Luck!

With my daughter, when she seemed ready I just started putting panties on her during the day and she automatically started using the potty. She's been training for about 6 months now and she only wears a diaper/pullup at naptime and nighttime. She's had a few accidents but that happens (and luckily we have hardwood floors :) She's never accidently gone #2 though. If he's as ready as she was it probably will be easy. Try to see if he will just sit on the big potty and you'll be on easy street, but if he's scared start him out on a little one and I would let him carry it around with him so its always there and he'll get comfortable with it faster. My daughter just sits on the regular potty now so its great- no cleanup! Don't get discouraged if it doesn't go well at first, my daughter will be 3 this weekend so he's a bit younger than her. Good Luck!- C.

Take him shopping and allow him to pick out his own character underwear and stress to him the importance of not wetting the character.

My son was completely potty trained a month after he turned two. The best advice I could give you is to train him in underwear (even through the night) not pull ups. That way when he wets he can fell it verses a pull up that feels like a diaper. It took about two weeks of getting up in the middle of the night changing sheets and being consent with my son until he caught on. Also cut off his drinks early in the evening that way you can control some of the bed wetting. I would also suggest putting piddle pads under his bed sheets to keep the mattress dry.

I never used a potty or Pull Ups-- we just went cold turkey on to underwear (except at night) and both of them sat on the big toilet with one of those coshie seats on it. I let my son pee a lot outside on trees- he loved that- because when he said he had to go, he couldn't hold it for long! It took him a year, though, until he got the hold-the-poop thing down. Stickers helped a lot!

Hi, C.. Our son is also 2 and we just recently got him potty trained. What worked for us was that we let him run around the house without bottoms on in the evenings and on weekends. That way each time he had to use the bathroom he had to stop what he was doing and go. He only wet the floor one time. ;-) We then put him in regular underwear for daycare and he had 3 or 4 accidents, but after that, he doesn't have any. We started potty training half-heartedly 6 months ago, and within the last 2 weeks doing these things, it just worked. Good luck to you!

Hi C.,

I am a mother of a 13 and 15 year old. And what I did to potty train my children was I put down newspaper in front of there favorite tv program(cartoons) and sat them on the potty chair to make it more fun for them.. Each time we would move it closer to the bathroom them eventually to the bathroom it worked GREAT! If you think about it the bathroom is boring at that age so you need to spice up potty time... Hope this helps and good luck

I have triplets...who are now 3...2 are girls..they have been going for over a year...It looked like my son never would...I tried the cherrios..in the toliet...He tried to take it out and eat it :( What worked for me..I sat him straddled on a regular toliet facing the wall..my husband was not happy..BUT IT WORKS...NONE of my kids used the potty seat..I bought it though & potty books & videos..this was the only thing that worked for us...the little cushioned seat( a character the love) works well for the girls but my son DID NOT like the guard on it...Facing the wall he leans a little down...no accidents...And when he is tall enough he is already facing the right direction....When we go out I just cover entire seat with toliet paper so he can still straddle...Good luck

Hi C.,

Your son is very ready to be potty trained. Just have him sit on the potty whenever you think he may have to go whether he wants to urinate or do number 2. Sit him down as often as you can so he can get use to it. Also reward him when he does something. Last, let him help you empty the potty. A lot of patience is needed and a lot of encouragement. You can do it. Good luck!!

If you think that your son is ready to potty train then start taking him every 30 minutes. As your son progresses with potty training and you put him in underwear do not go back to pull ups- since this will confuse him. but if he does have to ware a pull up at night just stress to him that you only wear pull ups when you go to bed at night. Good luck.

A game I played with my son was to throw some cheerios in his potty and tell him to point, aim, and shoot. He thought it was so much fun!
