My sister's fiancee (they're wedding is next weekend) has asked my help with a wedding gift for my sister. My sister had told me numerous times how she hopes he'll get her a pearl necklace and earrings!! I'm not a jewelry person so I'm kinda clueless where to send him ... my first thought was Kay Jewelers?? He'd like to get her nice ones of course but they certainly don't have to be the best of the best!! Any advice would be appreicated by myself and my soon to be brother-in-law!!

Thanks in advance!!

sounds funny but costco has some that I have been admiring for a long time. They have a good price for good quality.

Kohl's had some beautiful pearl jewelry on sale the other day. I bought my daughter a necklace and bracelet to wear to my sister's wedding. They weren't the best, but they're good enough.

Not sure what his budget is, but Kay or Zales would both have nice perals for her. Or you could send him to Kohl's or Macy's. Either way, I'm sure she'll be happy with whatever he gets her.

My husband got a great strand of Mikimoto pearls at Jareds. They are beautiful and you can tell the difference between the Mikimoto and non-Mikimoto I had on an old necklace of mine. I'm sure you can get them lots of places but I think Jareds has pretty good prices.

1 word:

Mikimoto

As long as they are Mikimoto pearls, you can get them anywhere. In fact, other pearls are judged by whether or not they are "Mikimoto Grade" or not. They are the industry standard for pearls. But here are some links to their own site.

Strand necklaces are several thousand, if that's in his price range, but a gorgeous pendant (single or multiple pearls) can be had for well under a thousand.

Personally, I would avoid the large chains like Kay's & Zales. You'll find better stuff at a smaller, independent jeweler and probably a better deal for the better quality you'll get.

They should feel rough against your teeth if they are top quality pearls.

If your sister's fiancee isn't opposed to shopping online, I like jtv.com they actually have a lot of pearl jewelry. http://www.jtv.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-jtv-Site/def...
I buy loose gemstones from them and have always gotten good quality from them. If there are reviews listed on the item, go ahead and read them, most of them are favorable. The made jewelry is beautiful and is usually at a really good price.

Pearl necklaces are like other types of jewelry and very personal....does she want a double strand, choker or something like June Cleaver wore?

My husband went to Taiwan and brought me back a beautiful pearl necklace - however, it's more like a choker and don't wear it....the earrings were (are) beautiful...however, I don't wear much jewelry and they sit in the box too....

I would see if you talk with your sister to find out more information on what she's looking for - maybe go shopping with her and happen to run into the jewelry counter and see what she points out....

Kay Jewelers and Zales are good places to start!!

Jewelers row in Chicago - you can literally walk from store to store. You may want to google it and then call a few and see if they have pearls. Their costs are generally much lower than a chain. But they tend not to take credit cards so be sure to bring your checkbook. We didn't bring ours and they said 'take it and mail us a check'. Wow. Of course, this is after we left a family stone there to be mounted in one of their settings...so we already had interaction with them. My husband has been back there several times to buy stuff and they usually just send us a bill and let us take it. We like Howard Borland and sons but not sure if they do pearls.

Macy's has a very nice selection of pearls. I wish you sister and her husband to be all the happiness life holds. He must be a nice guy if he's asking for your help to do something nice for your sis.

Blessings....

We bought my SIL pearl necklace as her wedding gift. We were on vacation in New York and after going into several jewelers we ended up in Tiffany's. They had beautiful pearls & very good prices compared to the smaller stores we visited.

When my DH was looking for my engagement ring he found that Tiffany's had outstanding quality diamonds & not to much of a cost difference than Jareds.

Sounds like he is going to be a great BIL
