Seeking Ideas for a Confirmation Gift

I've been asked to be a 'sponsor' for confirmation and I'm looking for a unique gift. She already has the typical religion jewelry and rosary items from her first two sacraments. Can anyone suggest something? I'd really appreciate it and of course I need to purchase something by next weekend.

What can I do next?

My son was just confirmed yesterday and I went on-line and ordered from Abbey Press for his gifts. They are fast and very reasonable although if you need something for the weekend you might want to upgrade the shipping method. I got him a beautiful wooden cross and a plaque that was personalized with his name and date of confirmation. He LOVED both!

Does she have a rosary bracelet? They are unique and religious stores have them. They have lots of different choices for the beads.

There are lots of books for teenagers. A good one is "Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons?" It answers lots of the questions that teenagers have about being Catholic. There are also bibles for teenagers.

Another idea is a nice picture frame to put a photo of you and her in it. What about a medal of her confirmation saint?

That's all I can think of. We just had confirmation, but I have a son and we didn't have any big party, it was very low key.

When I was a sponsor for my niece, I gave her an "add-a-pearl" necklace from a local jeweler. You buy the necklace with only 1 or 2 pearls and then for following gift giving occasions, I purchased an additional pearl to be added on. The original necklace costs about $100.00 and for each additional pearl it's about $20.00. You can take the necklace to the jeweler to add the pearls or you can pay and recieve a receipt for the girl to take it herself. My hope is that by the time my niece gets married the strand will be full.

My daughter just made her confirmation and I bought her the NAB Teen Bible. It is a bible w/ inserted sections written in a straightforward language for teens - like a question and answer sections (NAB Version). About $15.00.

When I was looking for gifts, it is so much easier to go to a "Catholic" religious store than a "Christian" religious store. They just don't have as much to offer in the way of Catholic items (NAB version bibles, specific Saint books, jewelry & pendants w/ Saints, etc...)

Also, my daughter's sponsor (her Uncle) bought her a book about her Saint's name. I was going to get her the sterling silver pendant necklace w/ her Saint's name on it but just didn't think she would wear it a lot.

Carmelite Gift shop - Darien, IL is a wonderful store....found a good variety of Saint Pendants for .50 - $2.00 each as well as other jewelry.

St. Anne's Gift Shop, in Orland Park was where I found a great variety of books, too.

One thing we did for my daughter (from her dad) is bought her a small wrist corsage w/ orchids in it and her Uncle and Aunt gave her a bouquet of a variety of white flowers - lilies, carnations, snapdragons, daisies and mums.... (from Costco) - really one of the most beautiful bouquets that I have ever seen and lasted almost two weeks! (Around $20.00) My daughter was one of a few people who received flowers (I was surprised by that) and it really made her feel very special!

Congratulations on being a sponsor.

Have you ever heard of PANDORA? It's a company that does these cool charm bracelets, and each charm represents a different milestone or event. They have crosses that dangle, or a bible charm that i know of.
The charms are sterling silver, some have gold, some with stones, etc. Then actually "screw" on over threads. It's a great concept.
I get mine from ROLLANDS JEWELERS in Vernon Hills. They are in the hawthorn shopping mall. They have a HUGE selection.

You can always go for a nice detailed Bible or any of the other ideas. If you do go with a piece of jewelry or a cross to hang on the wall, before the day comes ask a priest (assuming your catholic) to bless the item for you. It makes the gift extra special. You could also always give a bond along with a smaller gift. Hobby Lobby has beautiful crosses.

A nice dress watch is a good idea if she already has the religious jewelry. Earrings in her birthstone or starting a charm bracelet would also be nice. Congrats on being asked to be a sponsor!

A nice cross for her room or a bible with her name engraved on it would be nice. I believe there is a store called Lemstone books? They have religious things in there that you might be able to find something.

My son received a wood cross that says confirmation from his sponsor. He has gotten crosses for all of the sacraments he has received. He has two of the crosses on the wall near the light switch as you enter his room and the other one is on the wall right next to his bed.
Good luck!

How about a scrapbook? It could include pictures of all her sacraments. Since it is next weekend you will not have time to make it for her. But that is OK- you may want to put in a personal note about how you would like to work on it with her. Maybe leave some room for the sacrament of marriage. What a special keepsake.

ALSO:
My sister-in-law gave someone a beautiful set of special Christmas ornaments for a wedding gift - it was a hit! Kind of like collecting for a Hope Chest.
Hope this helps

If she doesn't already have one, a nice study bible is a great gift.

Hi, I sell custom made jewelry and I make hand stamped sterling silver neccklaces. (I really hate felling like I am being pushy) anyway, I can make one of the circle pendants with anything you want on there, maybe her name on the top and her confirmation name on the bottom. I can hang a small cross on the center. I can also just put the date on the bottom of the circle etc.. I am a power seller on ebay and I have a website. If you can click on my name on this, there is a link to both the website and the ebay store so you can look at some of my items. I also have roasary bracelets and I can hand stamp a heart charm with her name and date and add that on that for you too. the circle paendants are 30.00, and the rosary bracelets are in the 25.00 range and I can add the custom charm for 10.00 extra. You can email me with questions or if you want pictures. My email address is ____@____.com
I am in rolling meadows, so I can get you this quickly as well..Good Luck!

Have you considered a teen bible? You can get one at any Christian store. Each of my kids has one and it is a legitimate bible, but translated into contemporary words. There are also footnotes and sidebars on how the teen can use particular bible passages to relate to their life now. My kids read their bibles regularly and have a far greater understanding of the Word than say, a King James bible.

When shopping for a communion or confirmation gift I always go to a religious gift store. They always have TONS of great sentimental gifts for communions and confirmations. Never have any problem finding something.

There are a few really nice religious stores in the area. On A Wing And a Prayer in Plano, The Wheaton Religious Shop in Wheaton and the Catholic Store on Peace Rd in DeKalb. You've had some great suggestions, but just realize that more often than not part of the confirmation class is using a study bible, so that may not work so well. (Both my children have gone through Confirmation classes and have great study bibles that have tabs marked for all the books, etc. - if you really want to do that, check with the parents if she has one already). Otherwise you run the risk of it sitting in a closet or being returned to the store anyway.

Find out what name she has chosen and see if you can find out more about the saint. Many of these stores have medals of the saints (which you can have blessed by a priest) and other info like books, prayer cards, etc. You can put together a little 'package' of items related to her saint or similar. A really nice cross is a good idea esp since most of our little ones get a 'baby' cross at their Baptism and it probably seems kind of babyish to them at the ripe old age of fourteen or fifteen.

If you go to any of the stores I mentioned you'll find some wonderful unique gifts even jewelry that might add to what she already has, but is so different you can't miss.

Good luck and blessings~
