My sister is having a baby and we don't no if its a boy or girl yet want some ideas now so we can chose the baby's name before he or she is born. She wants a name that you hardly don't hear something unique and maybe a cute middle name to go with it. We have some names picked out but want to try and find something better any ideas would be a great help thanks :)

What can I do next?

My daughter is named Kaia Louise and I just love it (the Louise is her great-grandmother's name, she died the same day we found out we were pregnant with her). Kaia is pronounced Ky-a.

My youngest dd is Taryn Elizabeth. I had not heard of Taryn until a couple days before she was born. She has never met another Taryn.

My nephew named his son Torin Jacob. I had never heard Torin before. I didn't like it at first but I like it now.

If I have another girl some time ( not likely)
I want to name her Ava Kate ( great grandmother's name)
Look into your family history and see if somethign jumps out at you , you're likely to find some unusual names if you go back far enough.
Maybe pull somethign from each side of the family.

I literally got out the baby name books and got a notebook. Every unique name I liked, I wrote down. Then I had my husband help me narrow them down until we got the 'right' name. Funny thing, we were set on a boy name for my 2nd daughter, (didn't know gender before she was born), and picked a completely different name for our son when we had our boy as the 3rd! All of our kids have unique name, and all were from books. I like seeing the meanings in the books also! :)

Okay, check your library or Amazon for a book called something like 100,000 baby names. I have this book, and literally, half the names in it I have NOT heard of before! There were so many good picks. I'm sure there are other good books out there, but this one really topped them all for me.

Just some friendly advice...we gave our daughters normal first names and unique middle names, so there won't be an issue of "being made fun of" and yet they really have something special to their names. Both names have significant meaning to us (my husband and I.)

Their names are Elizabeth Asenath, and Alice Shire. The first means "consecrated to God; I belong to my Father" and the second means "truthful song."

Have fun!

I named my daughter Shaylah AnnaLeigh prounounced onna leigh or I think the proper way is anna'leigh right? The middle name is a combined family name. My dad and myself have a middle name of lee whereas my sister and mom share ann so I combined the two together. My husband came up with Hayley Nicole for the other one since we had twins-that was the agreement he could name one and I named the other. I like really unique names and I have actually met a few other people with that same name but my daqughter shares her name with no one in school for now. She loves her name too-always talks about how much she loves her name. The only regret I have is that I wish the other twin I spelled her name Hayleigh instead of Hayley since the "leigh" would have complimented the family name so to say......I wanted to name my boy if I had one Grayson or Triston. My hubby liked Evan but too plain for me. Its a good name but I like those unique names-lol! Not the really difficult ones to pronounce though or spell-remember your kid has to learn how to say their name and how to spell it ;())

My friend and her hubby did that with their 2nd child. They took their initials and created his name. Another friend used the hubby's mom's maiden name. There are many ways to create a new unique name. Keep in mind for future if the child wants to buy something with their name on it, it won't be available. I saw this first hand tonight with my friends kids with the initial name. He is 5 and was so sad nothing had his name on it. But his older brother who's name is not as common was found.

Surnames as first names is something very common. An uncommon androgynous surname that would make a good first name is Parmenter. It has the same meaning as Taylor but is much more unique. Any two-syllable middle name with accent on the second syllable should work.

Our youngest is Ruby...people love it or hate. We of course love it ;) It's unique enough that we very rarely ever hear it, but it's not over the top crazy wierd that she will get made fun of.

She is a Ruby Grace because I lost out on Ruby Rhea.

Some of the names we had on our lists:

Boys - Carver, Vaughn, Soren, Marlo, Theron

Girls - Shiri, Arwen, Marielle, Everly, Rylin

Keep your ears and eyes open and alert. You never know when a news anchor's last name, a brand name, a character in a book, etc will catch your attention and sound like the *perfect* baby name.
