Looking for a Good Foundation - Harrison,ME

Okay, I'm looking for some good skin coverage. Here is my list of requirements for a good foundation: contains SPF, good even coverage, light and not cakey, maybe some anti-aging elements. I really want to try minerals but am also interested in Olay anti-aging. Do you ladies have any favorites or recommendations for store products?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the responses ladies. I appreciate all of your advice although next time I will put in the note "No Solicitations please." I bought Physician's Formula which some of you recommended and it's working quite well. I can barely feel it on and at the end of the day I didn't feel greasy. I couldn't tell if the finisher actually went on or not but the end look was matte which I was hoping for. Will try Bare Mineral's if this doesn't work. Thanks again and I hope all of you ladies have a great summer.

I noticed several people mentioned Bare Minerals, which I love too. But you mentioned the anti-aging elements are of interest to you. I suggest trying 24.7 Minerals (available at CVS/pharmacy). It has anti-aging and is a mineral makeup kit and less expensive than Bare Minerals.

I just started using mineral makeup about a month ago and I love it. It is so nice not having the makeup get greasy, it feels great and does look more natural. It is now more affordable, too - I've seen the best prices at Walmart so far. It is a powder, so I like the kind where the brushes are kept in the cap - keeps things much cleaner. I tried it first with just the foundation and concealer and then added the finisher. The finisher really helps the oily spots stay dry looking all day. I live in the south and it has held up in the heat so far, too. I just started using Oil of Olay and Roc (for my skin, not foundation), but it's still early to tell how well they are working. I have very sensitive skin so the good news is all three of these things haven't bothered me so far. They say the mineral makeup is a lot better for your skin so it does make me feel better about wearing it too. Good luck!

Mary Kay has wonderful skin products. I have used them for years and have gotten many compliments on my skin appearance. The cream day radiance is the best foundation for a small, not make-up"y" look. The creme to powder leaves a light powdery look. The have an extra emollient night cream that just smooths and moisturizes and reduces wrinkles.
Good Luck!

R., if you're interested in trying Mary Kay products, there's a Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20. It's more sheer than a traditional foundation but still has good coverage, and has the moisturizer built in. And there's a whole line of age-fighting products called Timewise. Check out this link for the Tinted Moisturizer, and you can check out the Timewise products while you're there.

While it doesn't have the anti-aging aspect to it, I LOVE Bare Minerals! It has great coverage and does not even feel like I am wearing any makeup! I've never been one for the caked on look, so this stuff is great!

I used to use Bare Escentuals, but it was too expensive for me to continue, so I switched to Physicians' Formula mineral wear. I really like it; it definitely has a nice, natural, matte finish, does not cause me to break out, and feels really good on the skin.

I love bare minerals. It has spf 15, you can layer it for whatever coverage you want. It is light and not greasy at all. I have been wearing it for 4 years. My sister wears it. I get compliments on my skin and my skin itself isn't great. I have freckles, very fair skin, some redness. Bare minerals covers well. It is really quick to put on. I also have a 10 month old so I want something very quick. I buy it online at sephora. Hope you find something you like! R.

I just started using Physicians Formula Organic tinted moisturizer. It covers nicely but not thick and heavy, smells good, has an SPF and I don't feel it on. I picked it up at Whole Foods for around $10 but I just saw that you can also get it at Target. The Sunday paper coupons section has carried $1 off coupons for it too. I checked it out at the Skin Deep website and it rated a 3, which is good. Here's the web address if you want to check out other things you use.

R., I am an older woman and I've tried Bare Minerals alone but found I needed more of a liquid foundation first.
I use Revlon 16hr cream makeup, then I use a touch of Bare Minerals Warmth , then finish with Mineral Veil. My makeup lasts all day without touchups, and I always get compliments and friends ask what I use.

Arbonne is pricey but I really like the mineral powder. I haven't tried the liquid foundation yet. The mineral powder has spf 15! The liquid provides spf protection as well. It's not at all cakey if you use it like this: 1.shake some powder into the lid and then use the brush to pick up the small amount of powder inside the lid. You can always add more if it's not enough. If you don't know anyone who sells Arbonne just post something about it on mamasource and I'm SURE you'll hear from tons of people who sell. You can send me a personal email as well and I can put you in touch with someone.

i really like Physicians's Formula mineral powder (packed powder not loose). It's a light consistent coverage that doesn't really feel like you have make up on. I tend to get dark circles under my eyes and I am able to wear it without concealer for daytime (evening, I will use a light concealer underneath). It seems to last long and blend well with my own blushes and eye makeup. The shades are forgiving also because I wore the same shade when I was winter-pale and then I started tanning for my sister's wedding in March and I was still able to keep the same shade of powder. Good luck!

Try the Makeup Forever line - I love mine! I used to wear a simple powder for a rush job, but this application of my new foundation is easy. I'm not sure about the spf though, but check out the whole line, they may have a product for you. If you have a Sephora near you, I recommend going there and having a consultation. The girls at the Prudential Mall location are super nice and they don't get commission if you buy something so they don't push.

Good luck!

mineral makeup is naturally uva/uvb resistant, not heavy and virtually chemical free. Be careful about which products you buy, however, read the labels. I personally like Mineral Fusion because its works great and has antioxidants in it(you can get it at whole foods, it is more expensive but well worth it) There is also Larenim, Physicians formula, Lavera, Dr Haushka and Ecco Bella (I have used them all, they range in price and are all excellent). You do have to be aware that they will be more expensive than regular makeup, but you are paying for purity and high quality. Some of the nasty chemicals you find in makeup can really mess with your system. Check out http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ to look up any makeup or bodycare product to see what its really made of! Paying a little more is worth it for me.

Hi R.,
A friend of mine is a make-up artist and has developed her own line of make-up. Her stuff is pricey and I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but it is fantastic stuff(meets all the requirements you list above) and worth the investment, I think. Her company is called Sarra and her name is Lauren. They have locations in Boston and Hingham. (Not sure where you are located.) You would probably need to schedule an initial consult with her and then you could order some of her products. They can send the make-up directly to your house. She also does eye-brow tweesing. She's really great!

I've used Olay face lotion for sensitive skin for years and love it. I've recommended it to a few of my friends and they are also enjoying the product.

Good luck!
