Okay I honestly cannot remember the last time that I actually liked the way my make up looked. Something happened to my skin after I had my little pumpkin and definitely after I turned 30. I wear less make up because I feel like when I put more on it looks worse. NEED HELP!
Go to www.everydayminerals.com. They are out of Austin and they color match I.D. Mineral make-up and there are more choices. They are half the cost too! I matched the Fairly light in a couple different finishes..you can try them for cheap and they have specials. And..great coverage for scars and age spots. (I do not work for them!)

I use Southern Magnolia Minerals and love it. It's like Bare Minerals but WAY WAY WAY cheaper and is made from a WAHM so I like supporting her instead of a huge business. She sends stuff for free and always includes free samples too which I like :) I also like that she lists all ingredients and everything is natural. Check out her site at www.smmcosmetics.com - I've been wearing it for about 1.5 or so and I just turned 30. For my skin care I use Kiss My Face products which I like too.

Hi A.. I know what you mean! I'm 37 and for about 5 years, I've quit using liquid foundation and now I only use tinted moisturizer. For some reason it just seems to make my skin look better. It was weird - all of a sudden, one day about 6 years ago, it looked like that liquid makeup was just sitting on top of my skin - not blending in at all. I looked like my mother! EEK! So I tried the tinted moisturizer and I really like it. I use Neutrogena. It's about $15 and it is tinted and also has SPF 30. I buy it at Walgreens but I know it's available at Target too.

If you don't plan on getting pregnant any time soon, I would suggest Obagi skin care. It was recommended by my dermatologist and it's amazing.
As for make up, I love Bare Minerals. They have a store at Willowbend Mall and I think one at North Park. Of course it is also sold at Ulta, but I like trained sales associates with real knowledge of the products I am buying.

I have three crucial steps - 1. A salycilic acid wash (most anti acne washes are), right now I use clearasil pads because they're convenient and I can keep them in the bathroom, the car, and on my night stand - no excuse for dirty skin.
2. A good moisturizer. I've always used Oil of Olay, but what works for your skin is what works.
3. I use mineral makeup - the cheap stuff by N.Y.C. I love the way it makes my skin look, and the way it feels.
Bare Minerals is the ONLY thing I use. I'm 36 and it covers every flaw I have without looking caked on! If I choose not to take my make-up off if I'm just worn out at night, it's SAFE to sleep in! It actually improves your skin instead of damaging it! I swear by this make-up and won't use anything else again.

Hi A.:
I had to respond to your question b/c I just found something that I really love after many years of searching.
I just found MAC mineral powder (the packed kind, not the loose powder). It's about $26, but lasts for a long time, and during the summer months doesn't make you feel greasy.
I just turned 40 and my skin wasn't looking great. Now, with just a quick swipes, I'm good to go!
Good Luck!

I didn't read all of the responses but I am sure you are bombarded with all the independent reps and offers for demos where you feel pressured to try it. No offense...I've just been there and I hate it.
I am 47 and I have used Clinique faithfully since I was about 11. I can easily say that I do not look 47. I was at a neighborhood party last night and we began talking about aging, etc. 3 people could not believe that I was over 35. Of course ,throughout the years, I have moved on to the different products they offer. My dermatologist (Allen Menter) also recommends Clinique. Right now I use the Repairwear Series (day, night and eye creme) and of course SUNSCREEN daily. I do not like cakey makeup...I like something light with sunscreen.
My daughter (14) uses Clinique as well. She uses the acne wash for a proactive approach to keep her face clear and Clinique makeup. She has beautiful skin as well.
We are both very diligent with taking care of our skin. Clinique will also take back merchandise if you purchase it and don't like it. NO obligation to sit through demos, etc.
Macy's is having a gift with purchase right now...it might be a good time to give it a shot and get the samples in the gift. Also, most Clinique reps will give you samples.
Best wishes to you!

Of course moisturizer, espically where I live, as it is dry, but as far as makeup , for years I didn't like myself in makeup and found out I had the wrong shade for sure. and if you put blush ,and lipstick in the same theme, like warm or cool shades it looks good and you don't notice (make-up) but if you put a cool lip with a warm blush, even if it isn't dark you (notice) it. Makeup brings out your best looks and if put on right you notice how good you look, instead of (made up) and this takes practice, or maybe a makeup makeover at a counter in a mall if you live close to one, to get help on shades. I didn't live close to one, so I think that is why I had the wrong shade and just quit using it, as I thought I looked better without, then when a friend helpe me with the right shade, it made all the difference in the world.

I am in my mid thirties and had the same issue. I have never been one to wear alot of make up. I have worn/sold Mary Kay, Avon, even clinique. I have found that I like the Benefits line. I wear their tented mouturizer and the get even powder. This is enough to even out the skin tone and not cake the make-up on my face. I use the bright eyes stick to give myself the younger look. All of this goes on and stays on. It also is not thick and cakey. I also like their line because there are really cool names for the products that make me feel younger also. They are a little pricy but last a long time. They are at Macy's stores.
Be sure that what ever you invest in that you truly like them. Try them out and see if they work with your face. Good luck!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE mineral make-up. I've used several brands and liked them all - that being said, I now use the Mary Kay mineral make-up. The mineral make-up is light but covers red spots and flaws well.
I DO NOT work for MK but it is by far the best thing I've ever used on my face. I was using a more expensive brand after my youngest was born but found a consultant and switched back. I had her come to the house and she did a complete skin care analysis on me. I started using their skin care again, too, which makes a HUGE difference in how my face looks. Then she came back in a few weeks and did a complete color analysis on me. Whatever brand or make-up you go with be sure and use a good skin care.

I'm going to be upfront and tell you that yes I am an Avon rep, but I want to let you know what I use from Avon that I love. I am in my 30's as well. I hate thick makeup and don't like wearing foundation, but like coverage. Avon has a face perfector called Magix that is very light and is like a moisturizer but feels like a light powder after it is on - I like how it helps even out the skin. I love Avon's mineral makeup line. I have tried many others I like too, but mineral makeup can be pricey, and Avon's is just as good without the high pricetag. Avon has lots of differnt kinds of makeup, but this is the one I like best for my 30's skin. Also they have a lot of skin care lines - the Anew Alternative line is great for 30's skin - I love it! It really helps the imperfections disapear. Good luck - I know your getting lots of answers! If you want to check out Avon, my website is http://www.youravon.com/liezzi

Hi Angela,
You may want to check out Minerelles by Shaklee. It is a liquid that dries to a powder and seals in moisture. It is so good for your skin you can sleep in it. It contains patented,anti-aging ingredients. One bottle lasts me about a year, because my skin has improved so much, I don't feel a need to wear foundation most of the time. I am 54 and look at least ten years younger. I have all the shades if you would like to try it. You can check it out a http://www.shaklee.net/healthforlife.
I would recommend trying it and the others that have been recommended to find the one that's right for you. Good luck!

Hi A.,
I don't know what your skin type is or what you've been using but I use AcneFree (from Walmart-$15) for my adult acne and the Oil-Free Moisturizer from Neutrogena.
I recently became a mark. cosmetics sales rep and I have some skin care samples coming in. If you like I could send you some samples (for FREE). I have not tried the products yet so I don't know how well they'd work with my skin. I decided to become a rep because the makeup looks so natural on the skin and I've had that same problem with putting on makeup and my face looking worse. If you want to you can check it out for yourself at www.mymarkstore.com/kpowell. If you like the samples you can buy them online and if not then you'll know that brand of skin care stuff doesn't work for you. Good luck!

I tried wearing make up when I was in my 20's (mid 30's now.) When I wore it back then I hated that thick cakey feeling, so I stopped wearing it.
A year and a half ago, I was introduced to a botanically based skin care, health and wellness company. I quickly became a consultant because of the skin care line. I then tried the liquid foundation. I tried it "just because" and honestly thought it would be like every other make up I'd used. Boy was I wrong! It felt/feels like I have nothing on my face at all. I'd never felt anything like it in my life.
I'd love to get together with you and let you try it and see for yourself. There's absolutely no obligation.
Thanks!

I have been using Origins for a long time now and I love it. Instead of wearing a foundation they have this powder that has no color but just evens out your skin tone, I use that now. If I dare to put on foundation my skin feels dirty and tends to break out. Plus, they have tons of different skincare lotions and stuff so you would be able to find one that works for you. I know there used to be a store in NorthPark, Vista Ridge, and Stonebriar malls.

I was having a similar problem and couldn't figure out why my skin kept getting worse, pores enlarging, etc. It turns out that the sunscreens in makeup do not come off with regular facial soap and water! Instead, they build up like wax on your skin clogging your pores, making you get greasy and break out like a teenager. Nice. For this I had been paying the big bucks for department store makeup! Clinique Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser will cut through the sunscreen and clear your pores. I use it about twice a week. Then I switched to mineral makeup - yes, the cheap stuff by Mabeline and Physician's formula and my skin has never looked better! I think any of the brands of mineral makeup will do the trick and make your skin glow and not look heavy. But the real big culprit in the problem is the sunscreen residue. Who knew?

The reason you don't like your makeup is because your skin/complection has changed and you need different/(probably) better skincare. I agree with the other mom...go to the makeup counters and ask for some samples of moisturizers, serums, masks, etc. Try them before you buy them. As far as actual makeup goes, Chanel, Dior, Lancome are good. None of them are too pricey. BTW, DiorShow is the greatest mascara! Have fun trying new things.

I wont give you any advice on brand names, I think is all about getting the right shades for your skin tone and knowing how to apply it. Maybe you should make an appt with a professional make up artis to give you some tips on what works for you. A lot of people that sell make up dont really know how to choose what looks good on you. I say if you can afford it go to the MAC counter and see what they can offer, if you cant afford their products at least you know what shades and products to look for at the store. good luck.

I love my Mary Kay. Besides the fact you get to try everything first, and you have a consultant who can personally help you based on what you want, I just love the products. And I have to say this because there have been some raving reviews about Bare Minerals... I've never used Bare Minerals, so I can't compare the two, but Mary Kay has gone all mineral as well. They have mineral powder foundation, and all the blushes, eye shadows, bronzers/highlighters are mineral as well. So might be worth comparing the two- compare cost and compare quality to see what works best for you.

I use the tinted moisturizer with powder along with the concealer and corrector under my eyes...what a difference without feeling like you are wearing a ton of makeup. I've also heard great things about Nars. Other than using it for a friend's wedding, I haven't had much experience. But those who use it, love it. I saw one poster recommended Obagi. I like it too, but I don't use it all the time. The most important thing is for you to get on a good skin care program. And, in my opinion, it really doesn't matter which one. Olay Definity and Regenerist are as good as the good department store brands . . . the key is to be religious about the program. Right now I am using the Victoria Principal Reclaim and I really like it so far.
As far as foundations go, I have probably used most of them out there and I love the Prescriptives Mineral Foundation. They also have a primer to use under the foundation and I was amazed at the difference it made.

I recommend going to a department store and getting one of the makeup counter people to give you a free makeover (of course, it's "free" because they're going to try to sell you what they put on you!). I've had a couple of great ones at Clinique over the years. I'll go in when I'm getting bored of my current look, and ask for help! I've found that it definitely helps to be vocal about what your style is, however, and what you do and don't like--I tell them that I'm definitely low-maintenance these days, and what to look good but not "made up" in 5 minutes or less. Most sales associates know that if they give you what you ask for, you're more likely to buy it. Oh, and don't feel like you need to buy everything they put on you. I usually go in with a budget of what I am willing to spend, then buy a few new items (e.g. a couple of new eye shadows, or a new lipstick) based upon what parts of the "new look" they give me I like best. GL!

A. - I really like Artistry products. One thing that I have found makes a big difference is microdermabrasion. I'm 31 and my skin changed so much. After I started using the microdermabrasion system, my skin glowed so much more and makeup looks better. I've had the artistry system for about a year and still have the product.
I use a little bit of concealer, bronzer, eyeliner, mascara and lip gloss and that is plenty. Thankfully we don't have to worry about too many lines or acne, so we just need a little bit if we keep our face healthy.
Good luck - who knew 30 would bring so many strange changes.
Honestly, a little goes a long way and it's not full of harmful ingredients.
Try their RE9 travel bag to make your face gorgeous on it's own, then try a color group based on your coloring--you'll never look back!
Good luck!

You can now buy the individual cleanser in the mall. I've seen stands in Frisco and Lewisville malls. Also the best make I have found in years is called Pur Minerals.
