So, doing some holiday shopping and was wondering to those that have a Kindle. I read consumer reports ranks the Kindle the highest so I know that I want to get one but not sure if I should spend the extra for 3G. Let me know your thoughts?

What can I do next?

I love my Kindle! It's nice to be able to shop for books from anywhere in the world with the 3G. However, If I bought one now I'd probably get the Wi-Fi instead because I'm not traveling as much. I would shop for books from my PC or iPhone and queue them up, then turn on the wireless when in a hot spot to download the purchases. I'm getting my daughter a Wi-Fi one for Christmas.

I have and love the Kindle! I have the WiFi kindle not the 3G. I didnt see the point in spending the extra money. I just download any books I want to read before I leave the house. Plus there are so many areas that have free WiFi so I have never had a problem not being able to get online and get what I need.
If you love to read, then you will love the Kindle. My husband loves it as well I read three to four books a month and now he doesnt have to deal with all my books piling up around the house!

I would go ahead and upgrade to the 3G, as it isn't that much more and can make a big difference if you are out somewhere and decide you'd like to download a book, but don't have wi-fi. That said, I think you should really take a good look at the Nook, which is what I have, and I love it! Personally, I prefer the feel of the touchscreen over Kindle's keypad, but the main feature I like is that I can borrow library books with nook, but can't do that with kindle. I had never been much of a library patron before, but now I'm checking out 2 or 3 books a month. I check them out at home and they automatically go back in 2 weeks, or I can recheck them if I'm not done. I still don't go in the library, but I use it alot! There are a lot of freebies from B&N, as well. Again, both readers are great and I'm sure you'll love yours, but you might want to check out nook before making your choice!

I have the Kindle Wi-Fi and I am very pleased with it. If you are someone that is out about quite often and/travel often, I would suggest giong with the 3G. On the other hand, if you are home often and/or frequent places with free Wi-Fi then save the extra dollars and download your books at home. The speed is just as quick. Either way, you'll be very pleased with the Kindle.

I have an older kindle that is 3G and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love the fact that I get a signal no matter where I am at. I actually have a better signal on my kindle at my youngest son's school than on my cell phone.

Dear D.:

We have the Kindle without the 3G. The only difference between being simply WIFI and 3G is you can download a book anywhere with 3G. All we do is download the books, several at a time, at home with WIFI. Then we're set to read anywhere. You don't need WIFI to read the book. The downloading is quick with WIFI.
