Hi Everyone!

Have you seen The Hobbit and if so, is that one of the movies that we should spend the extra bucks and watch it in 3D?

Thanks in advance and have a great weekend!!

So What Happened?

Last year I had a party at a movie theatre and they messed up and gave us a bunch of free tickets to see anything. I just found the last 4 tickets so we will be seeing the IMAX 3-D as well. The time works and hey, it's free! Can't wait to see it!!

So we saw it in 3-D IMAX today and enjoyed it. I still like the Lord of the Rings trilogy better but did enjoy The Hobbit. My cons are what was mentioned here earlier...waaaaayyyyy too long and don't like them adding events to the story that weren't in the book. We also were saying, well, that wasn't in the book...that either!! All in all, the tickets were free and it was a fun afternoon. I totally had to laugh at Dawn and Lillian's stories! Yes Dawn, she needs to be handed the Hobbit cuz clearly she doesn't get it! And yes Lillian, they took too many liberties in changing the story. In anycase, Thanks again for your responses and have a great Holiday!

I saw the regular version, and Seriously, I do not think you will miss anything from the 3D(ewwww, troll butt). My gripes came from another reason(which my son so non-eloquently pointed out).

My son: "Mommy! That did NOT happen in the book. Where did THIS come from! Mooooom! They're doing it again!"

Me: "What dear?"

My son: "They're putting something into the movie that the book didn't put there! Oh, and I thought Dwarves don't like horses! Gimli didn't! Bilbo is a HOBBIT!"

Me: "They're riding Ponies, and most likely, Bilbo has never gone riding, as Hobbits don't generally do adventures."

*sigh* "Sorry folks. The Hobbit is one of his fave books next to Sherlock Holmes."

My son: "Yeah, and Iron Man did that one wrong too!"

Afterward, he said he had a lot of fun.

My son: "Mom? Can we take Grandpa out for his Binky Birthday again and take him to see the Hobbit?"

Me: ... *facepalm*

I'm looking forward to seeing it, Steph! I have zero interest in 3-D.

Having read the book many times, Lillian, I do the adult version of what your son was doing, LOL!

I laughed my head off when my husband read something to me that he was looking at, quoting some gal as saying that the Hobbit stole it's style from Lord of the Rings. Somebody send that gal to a literature class for heaven's sake!!!

My son who will be 15 in a couple of weeks said it was one of the best movies he has ever seen. He also loves the book. He didn't see it in 3D.

We saw it in 3-D IMAX (because that's what my husband wanted). I think the movie was great, but I don't think you'll be missing anything seeing it regular. There aren't any special 3-D effects, it's just neat seeing the film in 3-D. The scenes at Rivendell are particularly beautiful.

I can tell you it's gorgeous (if a little long in places) and worth seeing in its regular format. I did not see it in 3D because I friend of mine who did had the 3D plus 48 frames per second trigger a migraine. As a fellow migraine sufferer, I decided to heed her warning and not to take the chance.

I'm getting ready to see it in non-3d in a couple of hours. I remember seeing the Avengers and Toy Story 3 in both 3D and non, and not seeing a reason for paying the extra both times.

ETA: Just got back and it was AMAZING. There were parts that were going way too fast, though, with the 48 frames/second, so I think that plus 3D would have made me sick. I have a hard time with the 3D giving me headaches anyway. But it was very, very pretty.

We saw it today and loved it! You either like fantasy fiction, or you don't. If you do, it's greatness. Not as good as Lord of the Rings in my opinion, but that's because it had a foundation already (The Hobbit) but this first installment of The Hobbit is setting that foundation to the stories. It was great. We saw it in 3D Imax, it was neat to see it in 3D and the scenes where they're fighting the orcs was pretty awesome that way. It's only $3 extra for 3D where the 2 of us went, so it was fine.....but if substantially different in price, then I bet it'd be just fine without. Lord of the Rings didn't have 3D and it was fantastic. Same kind of idea for this movie. I'd like it either way!

it was very good, Very long, but good. My 5 year old sat through it. Along the lines of the Lord of the Rings kind of epic. So if you liked that you will love this one. Takes a while to get moving but once it does its wonderful. I would do it again, but like someone else said the 3d one gave me a headache

My husband saw it last weekend and tried talking me into taking a 1/2 off work to see it with him again.,.He calls it an epic and plans to see it another 2 times over the holiday. I will add to this if i ever make it to see it before DVD. :-)

I saw it in Real 3D because that happened to be the version that was showing a the time I could see it. I enjoyed it and may watch the others in 3D as well. It is the lead up to Lord of the Rings, so if you liked any of those movies and thought they could be good in 3D, apply that here. I didn't find the 3D overdone or distracting and there were a few fun moments with it.

My almost 18 yr old saw it. They were interested because it was a required read for AP English a year or so ago.

Overall. Unimpressed plus there is at least 1 sequel to it.

Her opinion... Ok but not worth her $$
