3-D Movie Vs. DD Eye Problem

My daughter has severe strabismus in her left eye. The dr has told us that she will require surgery soon to save her sight in that eye and we have begun the preparations for it. Unfortunately, the kids movie season appears to have started up now. She's got her heart set on seeing Monsters vs Aliens in 3-D. Particulary the 3-D version. My question is, Don't you need clear vision in both eyes to get the full effect of a 3-D movie? Is the screen the same, same colors and such? If we went to the 3-D movie would it not look right to her? I feel like this must be a stupid question but I'd hate to take her and it just suck for her. She already has enough problems, ya know?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We decided to give it a shot, saying that if it didn't look right to her then we'd just pack up and go right then and there to another showing somewhere. We went in, held our breath and.... SHE COULD SEE THE 3-D!!! YAY! And it was such a cute movie! The 3-D was so neat, the kids kept reaching out for the screen and giggling. I'm very glad that we did this. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP, YA'LL ROCK!

I don't like wearing those 3-d glasses, I get a head-ache afterward, I agree with the other 2 mother's let her see it. I want to see it too, I wish it wasn't in 3-D. I know my kids like 3-D too, my dad rented a movie once, they watched it in the 3-D and I didn't wear the glasses and watched it with them, it wasn't that bad, you see the green and red more... but I'm sure she'll still enjoy it...
God Bless

I don't know about not being able to see 3D. I didn't realize that was a problem for some people. I've always had issues with light - seeing rings around light at night and needing sunglasses even on rainy days. I thought everyone did until my husband mentioned seeing it after his lasik surgery. It's kind of funny how you don't realize you see things differently than some people.

Anyway, I digress, sorry. I took my boys to see the 2D version - they are scared by 3D movies. It was a very fun movie, and I didn't really see a whole lot that was obvious needed for 3D if that makes sense. It was a fun movie though! So, if you can convince her, there are many theaters that show the movies in 2D. I know the Cinemark Tinseltown in Grapevine does.

I agree with Amber.....it is funny because I was an adult before I found out I can't see 3-D...my husband and I even went to the IMAX once and I did not understand all the excitement about the show....well, that is because I can't see 3-D either. It won't hurt to let her see it, but she very well may not get the full effect. During the superbowl they showed a 3-D commercial and I actually saw parts of it in 3-D, but not the whole thing...so who knows what she may or may not see.

I cant say for certain, but in my personal experience the answer is no..I can not see in 3-D. My eyes were crossed as a kid, and when the surgery was done to repair muscle damage etc. it left me with two eyes that work a bit independantly of each other. In order for 3-D to work, both eyes need to work together to see the same image. That said, if she wears the glasses, at least the picture wont be blurry, otherwise it will be (just like it would be if you watched it without glasses). SO, if she has her heart set on it..take her, she wont really know what she is missing out on if the images dont appear to "come at her" etc. I hope that helps some!! Have fun ~A.~
***FYI*** for those interested, I did see that our movie theater was showing two screenings..once was 3-D and the other was not. You might want to check with your theater to see if it is available there too. We are going to the regular one..I hate dealing with those glasses anyway!!
