I was wondering if anybody ever had a rection to getting a tattoo? I'm about to turn 30 and want to get one with my kids names or initials in it.

What can I do next?

I got mine when I turned 30 also. It was fun. Believe it or not most people couldn't believe what I had done. My mom was the most upset, she couldn't believe that I would do such a thing. Most of the rest of my family thought it was pretty cool. My kids thought it was pretty neat and they both wanted one. that part was tough, because then I had to explain to them about all of the decisions that have to be made because it is a permanent part of you, and that it is not something to take lightly. I am now ready for my next one, I just can't decide what I want. I work in a professional office and nobody that I work with has ever seen it, just because that wouldn't be acceptable. Go for it, and have fun doing it!

Hi S.,

The only reaction you may get are from those who don't agree about you getting one!! I think all you can do is call a tattoo parlor and ask. It also probably wouldn't hurt to call your doctor about your health history and see if the ink will give you any problems.

That's really all I can think of. Hope this helps!

If you mean a "allergic" type reaction...
I dated a guy once who got a "shamrock" tattoo on his arm and it turned out he was allergic to green ink!!!
For years (and I'm guessing it still is) it was raised and somewhat bumpy and VERY green (didn't fade)...as if he just got it done. It seemed to get less itchy after a year or so...
I know it sounds obvious...but be SURE to go to a reputable place that uses only new needles and gloves and sterilizes equipment. I've seen a couple patients who got Hepatitis from tattoos and/or piercings! (And this is recently...not back in the "dark ages" of tattooing!)
Otherwise...they're usually safe...
The only reaction I would be afraid of, in getting one myself, is my husband's reaction...he isn't fond of tattoos. =0)

I would think carefully about getting a tattoo. I have a friend who now regrets getting one and is going through painful and expensive removal because she wants to be an RN. You never know for sure what lies down the road and some professions will not hire people with tattoos.

I wasn't sure what kind of reaction you were looking for...I know people who have had reactions because they went to bad tatoo parlors who had used dirty needles...make sure you go to a reputable one...remember you get what you pay for!

My SIL has had numerous tatoos put on her arms, legs, ankles, etc. and the most reaction she gets is from the family's disapproval...just because it's still such a taboo thing for so many. But her tatoo's have her kids names on them and they are nice and tastefully done.
