Your comment reminds me of Mitt Romney! LOL
I work in advertising. Generally there's no such thing as "too much" advertising....because you saw it, you remembered it.
I was thinking this over, when I saw the 3rd billboard for Ben Stiller's new movie "The Watch". I had seen a preview for it a while back when I went to, another overly advertised and hyped movie "Magic Mike" Thought at first maybe that it looked funny, I generally like Ben Stiller, but not everything. Then when i see the tons of advertising and billboards, the ump-teenth preview in a magazine or on tv if I am watching. I think maybe its gonna stink. Seems lately anything OVERLY advertised, just well, stinks. Anyone on this boat ride with me? LOL I really was disappointed in Magic Mike, well its hard to get disappointed over a stripper movie. However, so many people were talking it up, and it just totally blew chunks for most of the movie. If I want to see gyrating men, I could just ask my hunny to do a dance in the bedroom for me. Thats about what I get for foreplay lately. I know many women seemed to like the movie, and romance, but that romance was purely dysfunctional on all levels. Give me Sense and Sensibility any day. HAHA
GAWD one, I DO SOUND like Mitt. Bleck. Oh well yes I suppose from an Advertisers stand point that is true. LOL

I don't have a problem with "too much" advertising. However, my husband and I have noticed now that during the previews and even commercials, they give away more and more of the plot so by the time the movie comes out, you basically know the entire story!! All the funny parts have been shown so its not funny anymore when you actually see the movie. They even give away *surprising* things that I would think would be a benefit of waiting to see the movie. So there just isn't any secrecy anymore. But we still go to see them. I just wish they would do the basics to tempt you to see it and keep the good parts for the actual movie. =)
I know that I have become far more wary of movie trailers; sometimes they will put the ONLY funny line from a comedy in the trailer! I hate the hype as well, and while advertising works and seeing a million ads may make you want to see the movie that is being hawked, once you see it and are really disappointed in it, I think that will taint your view of future movies that seem similar to you (that have the same actors, director, etc.) I see very few movies in the theater anymore so I will read reviews and ask friends who have seen it if a particular movie is worth going to. Most of the time I will just wait until I can rent it at Red Box.
I tend to not pay attenting to the advertisements regarding movies, we go to www.cinemablend.com and are up on all the latest info on ALL movies being made so we know what we want to see and why before most people even know it is in production.
