Hi Moms,
Sorry if this is TMI, but I need a good deodorant. Mine works well when it's cool out, but as soon as it gets hot out and I start to sweat, I smell. I have to reapply it 3-4 times a day and then I just feel all yucky and sticky. I've tried Degree, Secret and even some of the clinical strength ones. I've tried deodorants adn antiperspirants. Same story with all of them. Has anyone with my stinky problem had any luck with a good brand?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

I actually think Ban works the best. It comes in a really bright neon green stick, and is usually in the bottom row if available at all.

I have quit wasting money on prescription strength after realizing that it's 20% anhydrous and many non-clinicals (1/4 the price) are 19%.

I have had the same problem and then a friend of mine suggested the unscented gel. I use the Secret brand and no more smelly underarms. Try Secret or Mitchum gel unscented. I also shave in the shower prior to applying deodarant

I have had good luck with Ban roll-on over the years. My grandmother swore by it, started using it in the 1960's!

More recently, I had a coupon for Secret Natural Mineral - that has been working really well for me, too. Even when I go to the gym, it's effective. :)

Mitchum! It's the only one I've found that actually works! If you look at the active ingredient, it has the highest.
They make a clear solid that I love. I think it's called Smart Solid Clinical Performance. They sell it at CVS.

I do notice that I build a tolerance to the same deodorant after a while. When one stops working I use a different brand and that usually solves the problem. The ones that work the best for me are Ban, Degree (24 hr or maximum strength I think it's called) and Secret. It's wierd the same thing happens with my shampoo. When I switch brands I notice my hair feels cleaner longer.

I use Almay unscented gel. I love it! I have been using it for years and don't have problems. It doesn't even bother my allergies!
During the really hot, sweaty summers I also wash my arm pits with the same tea tree oil face soap I use. Tea Tree oil is a natural antiseptic so it kills the bacteria that causes the smell. I can't use antibacterial soaps due to allergies but this works wonders!

I keep a pop-up canister of anti-bacterial wipes at home and touch up that way -- wipe under my arms and re-apply deodorant as needed. It's the bacteria that causes the smell, so using an anti-bacterial soap, tea tree oil, etc. helps, too. I've also noticed it gets better when my diet is cleaner and I am healthier, so drink lots of water, up your veggie/fruit intake and see if that makes a difference. Maybe your body is trying to tell you something. Good luck!

Ban in the green bottle roll-on or the solid is the only one that works for me.

I had tried just like you and besides them not working they started to cause a rash on my arm. I switched to chemical free deodorant that I shop for online from Melaleuca and have been using for more then a year and have not had any rash, do not have to re apply ever even after a workout. If you make the mistake of shaving and then putting it on it will not burn either. Just email mail me and let me know if you would like to know more. ____@____.com

I have a few lady friends that actually use men's deodorant for this same reason. They say it is stronger than women's and works better.

If you go to a dermatologist he can give you a prescription for medicated deodorant. My sister had to get some when she was younger. She would sweat every day! I remember she had to put the deodorant on morning and night for about 3 months and then it cured her. After the 3 months she just went back to regular deodorant and hasn't had a problem sense. So i would make an appointment.

Your doctor can prescribe a stronger antiperspirant. I did that once and it worked well. For whatever reason, I only had the problem that one summer.

Something that works for me is to mix a little bit of bleach in a bowl of water. After I dry off from my shower I soak the cloth in the bleach water mixture, wring it out and wipe down the underarm area. After they are totally dry then add your deodorant. This keeps the bacteria at bay a little longer. Someone said vinegar works too however I've never tried it.
I know bleach seems harsh to some, but I dont have a sensitivity to it and it works for me....

oh, I'll have to try that green container of ban

I have had that issue for a while and I use clinical strength ones now. I find that I have to switch off the brand every time for them to work, if I do the same brand two months in a row then it just stops working. No idea what is going on there and it's driving me nuts. I switched about the age of 35 to needing the stronger stuff, lol, and now at 43 I am finding I can't just do one brand anymore but must rotate what I use. I only use Lever 2000 for soap, and when we forgot to bring it on vacation we noticed that we sweat a ton more (used the hotel soap). So soap is important too.

It looks like you have gotten a lot of advice on brands already. I found over the last few years that I started to stink when my diet wasn't great. Eating more fruits and veggies and watching processes foods, I don't wear antiperspirant, just natural deodorant. When I start to stink, I take a look at what I've been eating and make a change. It's worth a shot.

Washing your underarms with an antibacterial soap makes a huge difference. I actually just bought some dial today!
