Yes teh mattress will fit both. We just had a mattress delivered for my 8 month old and they said that one side is for when she is a baby (firmer) and the other side is softer for when she is a toddler. Good luck!
My son has begun climbing out of his crib and we are going to start toddler bed shopping this weekend. Will the mattress from his crib fit in a toddler bed or are crib mattresses and toddler bed mattresses different sizes?

The same crib mattress fits our toddler bed but says toddler mattress they are both the same,I haven't seen any difference maybe there is but not on mine
they are the same size so no need to buy a different one. Does your crib turn into a toddler bed most do now. Also not sure how old he is but my younger two never went to a toddler bed. They were use to sleeping in my bed so much when they made the transition at 2 I just got them a regular twim bed. Saves on money down the road.

crib and toddler bed matresses are the same size the next step up is a twin.
I agree to not waste your money on a toddler bed. I would go straight to a full or twin size bed depending upon the space. If you have to buy a bed anyway, I'd just do the full upgrade! It will be better in the long run and lathough toddler beds are closer to the ground, etc., the "skills" you're teaching about staying in a bed are all the same. Good luck.
toddler beds use the mattress from the crib
It will use the same mattress and same sheets/blankets so you will save $ that way. As others have said, some cribs have side gates that come off and then the crib turns into a little toddler day bed. See if you can find your instructions. My son LOVED his little day bed. It was a great transition and he felt so cozy.
It's usually the same size mattress. My first son's crib mattress fit his toddler bed perfectly. I agree not to waste money on a toddler bed unless you find a great deal! My son REALLY wanted the Step 2 fire truck toddler bed, which retails for about $260 at Target, but I found one that was like new for $50 on Craigslist and it has served us well for 3 years. We're keeping the oldest in the fire truck bed and the youngest in the crib until this fall/Christmas when they're getting bunk beds for the same room.
You didn't say how old your son is so I will answer 2 different ways.
If your son IS a toddler, between the ages of 12 months and 24 months then go for the toddler bed. It's low to the ground, uses the same mattress, feels the same as the baby bed, uses the same bed linens, etc...he can use it up to 2 years at most. Once they get close to 3 they really need a bigger bed.
If he's NOT a toddler anymore, older than 24 months, then go with an actual bed. My niece bought her son, directly out of the baby bed, a Queen that he will be using until he moves out. Her daughter also got a queen right out of the baby bed. She had just turned 2.
We got our girl a full size, it fits her sleeping style. Our boy has a twin due to his room being smaller. As our kids get older and toys are not needed then we'll probably buy larger beds.
Hi A.!
When my kids made the transition, I got a 'bunk' bed with 'bunkie' boards instead of a box spring...made them lower to the ground on the 'bottom' bunk...and worked well.
Seemed there was always a baby needing the crib...so seemed the way to go!
Best luck!

Yes, the crib mattress is the same size. They also sell sheet/comforter sets that fit as well. Your crib sheets will fit, but you won't have the top sheet and pillowcase or comforter probably. I thought our toddler bed was a good transition, and we also used it for the 2nd child. So, we got our use out of it. You may need to put a gate across the door frame to keep him inhis room so he doesn't wander at night.
our crib turned into a day bed, which is what we are using as his toddler bed. Next we will put him in a twin (only because its being given to us) but otherwise I would just go to a full/double.
Most cribs do turn into a day bed so before you go and buy another bed, see if yours does. If not and you are set on a toddler bed, then yes a crib mattress should fit. In addition, check the other side of your mattress, because they usually make crib mattress firmer on one side for when they are a baby, then softer on the other side for when they are toddlers.
Yes, same mattress. Don't waste your money on a toddler bed. If your crib is a convertable crib (most are now) then just get him in a twin or a full size bed.
Toddler beds and cribs use the same size mattress. My kids stayed in the crib until they were over 2 so we went right to a twin bed with a rail. I did see one bed in Toys R Us that could fit either a crib or twin mattress. I think it was shaped like a race car. that might extend the life of the bed several more years. Alternately if the crib is no longer safe you can put the crib mattress on the floor until you transition him to a twin bed. As my mom likes to say, "You can't fall off the floor!"
If the crib doesn't convert to a toddler bed, buy a twin bed or larger. Toddler beds really are a waste of money. We started out putting just the queen mattress on the floor, then added the box spring. That's how the bed is right now, and we'll probably add the frame by summer.
