I need a really good bakery for my sons graduation cake. I just found out that Gladstone is out of business. Any ideas on where to get a great tasting and a great decorated cake?
I live on the border of Chicago and Park Ridge. Oriole Park/Norwood Park/Edison Park

You may have already ordered. I have bought many costco cakes and really love them. For fancier cakes (like my 40th birthday - LOL and my kid's first birthdays) we go to...

Beautiful Cakes
5814 W Higgins Ave
(between Menard Ave & Monitor Ave)
Chicago, IL 60630
In Jefferson park

I am trying to think of a reason to order a cake right now. They are Delicious! This bakery, under the previous owner, made my wedding cake...The new owner worked with the old owner so she uses the same recipes!

We just had a graduation party last week at our house for my neice and nephew and I got a cake a Costco, I can tell you I never had been asked so many times where did I get the cake (and I had never ordered one there before). I ordered the I think it was white or yellow cake with a some type of cream cheese filling that everyone just loved and it was around 20.00 for 1/2 a sheet cake and they will do the schools colors.

I have heard great things about:
Jarosch Bakery
35 Arlington Heights Rd.
Elk Grove Village, IL 60007
Phone: (847) 437 - 1234
jaroschbakery.com
Sams and Costco have great cakes at great prices. It's about $20.00 for a half sheet cake-nothing real fancy but they taste great.
A girl at my work just bought a half sheet cake from Jewel with filling and she said it was only $42.00 so I think they have come down in their pricing.

Costco cakes are extremely tasty, and cheap. I have had cakes from House of Cakes on Canfield and Talcott. They are very good and I know people who swear by House of Cakes only. Sweet Connections has been inconsistent for me--sometimes their cakes are dry. Rolf's is not in Lincolnshire, it's in Lincolnwood on Touhy by Lincoln. I've only had their pastries which were delicious. I'm sad to hear Gladstone's closed. I got both my son's first birthday cakes from there. Good luck!

Sweet Connections Bakery on Northwest Highway is my preference. The staff is always friendly and helpful when I need help deciding on which cake to order. In fact, I will be visiting them later in the week to order my daughter's birthday cake.

Here is their info:

Oak Mill has wonderful cakes. they have many locations in Chicago and suburbs so check them out on-line. I only use thenm for very special occasions because they are a bit more pricey. The Champagne cake is delish! You can get it regular or non-alchoholic.

Jarosch Bakery is the BEST ever. They made a cake for my grandmother based on the plates that we had chosen to use. Matched the icing colors and the flowers to a T. It was BEAUTIFUL, and delicious. We went with a raspberry filling, which was different and loved by everyone.

House of Cakes is GREAT...on Canfield. Their cakes and bakery items are wonderful and they also make the best pizza bread (foccacia) you'll ever taste.

Swedish Bakery isn't exactly in the neighborhood, but it's outstanding and I highly recommend it. Here's a link to their listing on kidwinks, along with several rave reviews: http://www.kidwinks.com/ShoppingKidFun/5/SwedishBakery/1047/

Good luck!

I also recommend Rolf's. It is in Lincolnwood, not Lincolnshire. And it is on Touhy and approx. Kostner.

If that's too far, Oak Mill Bakery on Milwaukee is great also!

Congrats!

Rolfs! I think it is in lincolnshire. They have wedding cake contracts with a bunch of hotels and provide desserts to several restaurants in the city I have happened on by accident. I still dream of the last cake I had...
