Snacks related to the color black.

It is my son's turn to bring a snack in this week, and it happens to be "black" day that day. I like to try to go along with the theme of the day if there is one when I send in snacks. Any ideas for something that would go along with that theme? It is for a 4 and 5 year olds. I am kind of stumped for something that I think they would really like to eat and wouldn't look kind of yucky to them. It is okay if I send in something that doesn't go along with the theme too, but just thought I'd try to think of something that might. Thanks!

Black olives... ALIEN FINGERS!!!!

Sorry it is what we called then until I was like 12... I was sooo mature...

also oreos... though the school may have rules against sugar... Ours does.

Something with black beans?

How about black gummy worms, if they're available. Licorice is black. You could make cookie or cupcake decorations with cut outs from licorice.

What about raisens on celery sticks?

Well if it isn't "just" healthy snacks I'd say, oreos, black licorice, black jelly beans. If it is only healthy than raisins (they appear blacl), carob covered granola bars. That's all I got. Black isn't really an appitizing color for food so not many choices. Unless you bake something and use black food color.

.

Usually black snacks we like kids think are yucky, black jelly beans, black licorice, olives lol How about dying something black, like the marshmallow of rice krispie treats, or whipped cream for cupcakes. Im thinking if this is for school, probably want something healthy? Hmmm, gonna rack my brain on this one!

I like the 'dirt cup' idea. Have you asked your child if they can think of anything?

Licorice, dark chocolate, black jelly beans, black gum drops.

For healthy something with raisens...
For not so healthy rice krispie treats with Chocolate rice krispies (kinda more brown than black I guess, but close) or oreos

black grapes, raisins, coffee (just kidding!)...

I got stumped, googled "black fruit" and found a list! Here it is:

I don't think it has to be all black. You could do mini pizzas with black olives, raisins or like a trail mix with raisins and dark chocolate chips. They also have blue corn chips that look black.

I would do a chocolate pudding with oreo cookies crumbled on top. I like the idea of worms with dirt too.

What about black beans? You could make a little black bean and pineapple salsa (mild) and serve it with blue corn chips. The pineapple would make it sweet, and kids like dipping things.

Or what about blackberries? Kind of expensive, but you could send blackberries and vanilla yougurt and some granola. The kids could make their own yougurt sundays.

"Ants on Logs" - celery with peanut butter and raisins....barring the peanut allergy thing.

*Raisins in general - they look black.
*Chocolate pudding - although it's really more brown that black - so add crumbled Oreo cookies to the top with gummy worms and do "mud"
*Oreo cookies....
*Blackberries....with yogurt or go-gurts....

cookies or cupcakes with black icing
cookies or cupcakes with white frosting and black sprinkles
Isn't there black popcorn?
black finger jello (make grape and add unflavored gelatin and food coloring)

I think in the instance of "Black Day" it's OK to forgo the "theme" this time! LOL

Oreo cookies?
Black licorice?
Black olives, ants on a log, raisins.

As close to black as I can get...

Hi Cindy---I like the idea of something with black beans...a dip, salsa or maybe even just the beans themselves. I would try to stick with something plant based as it would be much healthier, so you could also send in black olives. You can also use black beans as a substitute for oil with brownies. I like the fig idea also. I'm not sure they are still in season but I know you can find them at whole foods regularly, if they are. Give a call first to find out. A trip to whole foods might be worth it as they carry lots of really different foods that you can't find at Kroger.
