12/2010 I’m the grandmother of a 7yo boy and 10yo girl. My daughter, who is 30 and been a single mother for most of her children’s lives, came to live with me as a foster child when she was 6. I adopted her when she was 13. My daughter has been married 2 1/2 years, is expecting her third child and is now independent.

I’m a retired police officer who specialized in investigating sex crimes, child abuse and domestic violence. I was one of a dozen or so officers who received special training in mental health issues so that we could respond more effectively to these calls.

3/2018 update. My oldest grandchild is 17, nearly 18, has been living with me for a couple of years. She/he is transgender girl to boy and taking testosterone shots. I question transgender issues. I accept him and have gone past questioning him. Acceptance helps me.

My daughter now has 5 kids,.17, 14, 7, 4 and a nearly 2 yo. Two are on the spectrum. The youngest maybe. I spend time with them every week.
