"Luvs" Diapers causing yeast infection

I've had my daughter on "Luvs" diapers for about 5 month's of her life total (I switch depending on a sale). I usually buy the box of "Luvs" Leak guard guarantee, well at about half way through the diapers she started developing red bumps. I thought at first it was diaper rash but nothing I did worked. I'd let her air out for hours at a time... I'd put baby powder to help keep her dry I would change her diaper every thirty minutes even if she wasn't wet. NOTHING was working so I thought okay... a week of this that's enough... So I took her to the doctor and was surprised when he told me she had a yeast infection. Well he gave me anti fungal cream and about a day later the red bumps were completely gone. Keep in mind I was still using the "Luvs" diapers. Well as soon as it was completely gone, I was out of "Luvs" diapers. So I just so happened to see a sale and bought a cheap brand of diapers from a local dollar store. She did not have another diaper rash or red bumps, well when she ran out of those cheaper diapers I went back and bought the "Luvs" Leak guard guarantee AGAIN... thinking she couldn't possibly get a yeast infection from a brand of diapers. So the first day I put the "Luvs" on her...... there the red bumps were again..... Thank god I had the anti fungal cream still so I applied it and left the diaper off and now those red bumps are gone.. It is possible "Luvs" could cause yeast infections... I'm not a dirty person. I'm the type of mom that let's my kid's get dirty but when there done they get a bath (sometimes twice a day) I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this with their own child??

I doubt that the fungal infection is caused by the Luvs. And......a fungal infection is also not caused by being dirty. It happens when the system is exposed to fungus spores which are in the air all of the time. There is some thought that a person whose resistance is low is more apt to get an infection. I suggest giving her a probiotic. Yogurt with live cultures also contain probiotics. Or you can buy a supplement.

I would discontinue using Luvs. My oldest could not wear Huggies because she broke out really bad. We had to use Pampers or Luvs for her.

It is very possible there is some chemical probably in it that she is allergic to and since that area is dirty no matter how much you clean there is bacteria. Don't use loves any more.

I've used Luvs with all four of my children, and only one (my daughter) had the yeast type diaper rash. While I'm pretty sure the Luvs aren't the source of the yeast infection (it's usually from the child's own gastrointestinal tract), it's possible that they contain everything better, which would create the warm, moist conditions needed for yeast to thrive. If the cheaper diapers have more airflow (which also means they usually leak more), they may not provide as hospitable an environment for yeast to grow.

She's probably allergic to something in the Luvs.

My son was allergic to wipes.

When a kid is allergic to diapers/wipes/etc. the skin degrades. Yeast moves into the degraded skin tissue, and bam! Yeast infection.

So it's not that Luvs are causing the infection, it's more likely they're causing a mild allergic reaction, which the yeast then jumps on. 2 step process.

HOWEVER... Avoid baby powder.

Baby powder is just cornstarch, which is just sugar. Yeast feeds on sugar. So it's something to avoid ESP with girls, but also with any boy prone to yeast infections (because, as you've seen, they're not limited to vaginal canal infections, but yeast also causes skin infections).

*** Yeast infections are not caused by being dirty. Yeast occurs naturally on our skin surfaces, and is in a number of foods we eat (breads, grapes, etc.). It's everywhere. Our bodies are ALSO quite keen/able to fight it off under normal circumstances. It's when we have degraded skin, acid/base changes (why douching helps some women with their yeast infections, and triggers them in others), hormonal fluctutations, or lowered immune system reaction (for whatever reason), that yeast moves in and sets up camp.

I used Luvs on all three of my kids almost exclusively unless I had a coupon. Huggies never held it in, Pampers caused rashes cause they were too heavily perfumed, and Luvs always worked both ways. Never got a yeast infection with them. Son is still in them yet, he is one, and no real problems yet.

It's possible that your daughter is sensitive to something that they use in the Luvs diapers. You're not crazy. They put lotions and stuff in them to make the pee gel up. Something in there just isn't sitting well with your daughter.

Throughout all of our diaper years with our three girls, diapers changed style and features all the time. What worked for one didn't necessarily work for another, and with my middle daughter we had to stop using Luvs because they changed the style completely and they started leaking all the time. But they also changed Huggies and they gave her rashes all of a sudden, plus the legs were too crunchy. Then the cheap generic diapers were like wrapping the kid in single-ply public bathroom toilet paper. We ended up having to buy Pampers.

So yeah. You're not crazy.

My daughter broke out after switching to Luvs and Huggies. I don't know if it was timing or the diapers, but I went back to Pampers and haven't had a problem. Now with twin boys you would think I would want a cheaper diaper, but I'm sticking with Pampers and no problems. Even if it's not the diapers, do you want to keep taking the chance, or do you want piece of mind and use something else?

shes probably allergic to them. my daughter broke out with all diapers but nature baby ones.

Yes, OK I know this was a long time ago. My now 13 year old broke out in a rash every time I tried to use the LUVS brand. I don't know what it was but no other diaper did that to him.

my son got little red bumps when I used luvs. pampers worked best for us. huggies leak.
