Anyone see an issue with purchasing a dented washer and/or dryer? Anything that is refurbished (like floor models) or these dented items go through a factory testing process and are "working". It would be under manufacturer warranty for replacement or repair for one year. The difference in price would be a total of over $600, so I think it is worth it! Anyone ever do this? I honestly don't care what it looks like, as it will be hidden away in our laundry area - as long as it works well! And the denting is very minimal and isn't near the dials or anyplace serious.
These are the pair.....Kenmore Elite 4.0 cu. ft. Front-Load Steam Washer - White and Kenmore Elite 7.3 cu. ft. Electric Steam Dryer - White. The dents on each appear to be VERY minimal.
Nope. Not if it’s only cosmetic. We bought a dinged washer that works just fine and was at a significant discount for the small ding that I don’t even notice.
It doesn’t affect how well they work, its only a dent or a scratch and usually they mark the price way down because of it. We bought a freezer for the garage like this, huge discount because of a scratch on the side…who cares? Its in the garage! And as far as the washer/dryer goes, we are the only ones that ever see it, they are not out where people sit or anything so no big deal. Good luck!
I’d absolutely purchase one if it were that much cheaper! So long as it is only the shell that has cosmetic flaws and they can guarantee that no interior components have damage, then I wouldn’t care what it looked like on the outside. No one ever comes to my house to admire my appliances. Plus, I could spend the money on a flawless appliance and/or piece of furniture, and my kids will find a way to bring it down a few notches on the “pretty” scale.
If you don’t care, then go for it. We bought a refrigerator with a huge scrape down the side and few dings on the front. The fridge slides in between two cabinets, so you’ll never see it. and I touch the front up with white appliance paint. You’d never know. My fridge cost me about 40% of the retail price. That’s a 60% savings!!! You bet I’d do it again.
They were either dented on the show room floor or while moving them to the store from the factory. Either way as long as you get the warranty they should be fine.
Most people won’t purchase a dented appliance because they want them to look perfect. But let’s face it if you have children they are going to get dented and scratched anyway.
Unless your washer/dryer are in a spot of social gathering in your home (when I was a kid, ours was in our kitchen), then maybe it would matter. But I don’t think I would care one bit about a dent!
My good friend always buys the “scratch and dent” items. Unless it is scratched or dented in some way that might cause it additional damage over time (like if scratched thru the finish so that the metal could rust)… then I wouldn’t worry about it. I’d pocket the savings!
I have never been lucky enough to find one when I was needed to buy.
It should be the same warrenty as if it wasn’t dented. I’ve purchased these before too and have had no problems. It’s in the laundry room and no one even notices it.
I got a used dryer about 10 yrs ago for $25 and it has now pooped out. My washer is a used Maytag that was traded in for a newer model. The owner of the store I got it from had just sold my Mom a new refrige, stove and microwave and knew I needed a washer. He called me and said if you can move it it’s yours, free. It still runs like a charm for about the same amount of time.
Scratch and dent is new equipment that was damaged during delivery as long as it works who cares.
I have bought all of my appliances from the scratch and dent section of the store except for my refrigerator, which we bought new in the box. The fridge gives us the most trouble!
Even brand new appliances are generally under a manufacturer’s warranty for a year, so it’s a good deal. Most stores will still sell you an extended warranty on the scratch and dent if you want it.
My family has always purchased dented appliances. My father sold and repaired appliances and he brought home the dented ones for our use. Then when I became an adult he helped me find dented ones to use.
