Breech baby @ 20 weeks

Worried out of my mind my baby girl is breech at this time well was during the ultrasound, was reassured that I have plenty of time and room for baby to flip that I shouldn't be worried about her position at this time but I'am.I know babies flip and move all the time in utero till labor but just the thought of her being breech.Has anyone else gone through this?Everthing else is great.

Sarah,
At 20 weeks your baby weighs approx. 1 pound. Your baby is swimming in a lake at this point and probably changes position from breech to vertex at least 100 times a day. You do not even need to think about the possibility of a breech presentation until at least 34 weeks. Please don't worry about this at this point of your pregnancy. It is very common and normal. Nothing to b concerned with.

I understand how you feel. I have had two breech baby girls. I had to have c-sections as a result. But my case might be different from yous. You don't have to really think about breech presentation until at least the last month of your pregnancy. Then your doctor will talk about "flipping" your baby around, it's called a version. I opted out of this because the shape of my uterus is what is causing my babies to be breech and the risk of going into premature labor was high for me. Versions can be painful and sometimes once you turn the baby, the baby will turn back. Google versions or ask your doctor if your concerned. I'm not saying that c-sections are the best thing but they are nothing to be scared of either. Mostly likely your baby will turn around and everything will be fine. So calm your nervous and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.:) Whatever the outcome your doctor will have your best interests in mind.

I can only repeat what the other responses have been. Your precious baby is so little right now that he/she is flipping around and around and upside down a hundred times a day!! If the baby is still breech as you approach the 34th week in your pregnancy...then is the time to discuss this with your doctor. And YES there are things you can do...at home...when the time comes IF you need to try and get a baby out of the breech position..you just dont need to worry about it right now.

I am going through this right now, but I am MUCH farther along than you are. (I'm scheduled for a c-section tomorrow). You still have lots of time to get her to flip. When I found out my baby was breech, I started to see a chiropractor that specializes in pregnancies and can help create alignment and open up space in your pelvic bones to encourage her to turn around. Very UN-invasive, and I feel GREAT!! And it's covered by my insurance. Here's a link to their website. http://yourwellnessconnection.com/team.html#spishny. I see Shannon Pishny. She also will help you to be more natural and comfortable during your pregnancy. Check it out. I thought about the manual external version from the hospital, but there were WAY too many risks and it was not worth it for me. There are also alot of exercises and stretches you can do. Google it and ask your doctor. Mine had lots of great suggestions. Most importantly, relax!! You're baby will come the way she is supposed to. Let me know if you have any other questions!

sarah, by all means relax. i'll tell you what happened with me. i was pronounced "a-ok" the ENTIRE pregnancy, with absolutely no bumps in the road at all - not even morning sickness. i had my last dr's appointment on friday, and was scheduled to be induced monday because i was late. as of friday afternoon all was fine. sunday morning i woke up and my water had broken - we went to the hospital thinking this is it, and the first nurse that looked at me felt that he had turned breech, in the last 36 hours. she got the dr. who concurred, and within an hour i had my little baby boy via emergency c-section. it was NOT horrible at all! it was over quickly and the meds were great. i had a blast actually. it was so much easier than i was afraid delivery would be. so the moral of the story is, 1. they can turn in 36 hours no matter how big they are so there's no reason to think she won't do it before you deliver, and 2. worst case, you have a c-section and it's over quickly. it'll be fine! good luck and congrats on #3!

Hi Sarah, I know how it is to be stressed about pregnancy-related issues and it's hard to hear 'relax' about something of concern to you, but with confidence I can assure you that your baby will very likely turn within the next few months. My son was breech at my 20 week and 35 week ultrasounds but had 'righted' himself by 38 weeks. Even if he doesn't turn, doctors can often manually 'assist' the baby with the flip prior to delivery and thereby avoid any other intervention. Good luck!

Hi Sarah...
There are exercises you can do (get on all fours and drop your back/belly toward the floor, then arch it up like a cat). My first son was breech until near the end and I did these exercises per my midwife and low and behold, he flipped. You have to do them a couple of times every day until the baby flips. If you are open to alternative ideas, acupuncture works great for flipping babies and it doesn't hurt you or the baby. Just some ideas...hope it helps!

Sarah - I completely agree with everyone here. All pregnancies and babies are different. My last child was actually sideways(i believe they call it transverse)up until the day I was induced. My doctor and another attempted to manually turn him. They began by saying it might hurt and then put the jelly on my belly and attempted to turn him. No luck. I ended up delivering him by c-section which I thought was wonderful. I had delivered my others children vaginally so I was a little concerned when they said c-section but it really wasn't that bad. Good luck and God bless:)

All babies are breech at this time. When they get larger they will settle down into the pelvis. If by chance it is breech, there are plenty of things that will turn her- a chiropractor can use the Webster technique to turn her- this is a series of manipulations- NOT external version that MD's use- doing handstands in the pool, lying on an inversion board feet up- so don't worry- she will settle when the time is right- Shari mom to 9

Calm down Sarah !
:o)
She has LOTS of time to move, and she probably will. I have had two of my three that were not "engaged" (as they call it when baby's head is in proper position for birth) right up until I went into labor. My little girl flipped around very early in labor and was fine, my little boy engaged his little head, but was turned facing the wrong way. Just when the doctor thought he was going to have to turn the little guy himself, my son gave one real hard kick and flipped himself around to the perfect position. He still likes to grandstand ! LOL !
Even if your baby were to deliver breach, it is not the big deal it used to be in the old days. All will be fine, I'm sure.
try to relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy, ok ? For just a few more weeks she is all yours. After that, you have to share her with the world.
:o)

My baby was breech much later than 20 weeks. I think he didn't turn until about 36 weeks... and that was only two weeks before he came! So don't let it worry you. Just relax and enjoy your pregnancy. (:

There have been many breech births in my family. Every generation seems to have them. My daughter was breech, I was breech, my mom was breech, two of my cousins babies were breech as was she. It goes on and on. It's very common and all but one of them delivered vaginally. Don't worry, it's not the end of the world. Good luck.

20 weeks is still very early to worry about breech. I've heard of babies flipping a week before the due date (although kinda painful!) I had 2 breech babies, and the dr. couldn't turn them due to an uterine abnormality. I ended up w/ 2 c-sections. As upset as I was about having to have the c-sections, I just kept thinking --- baby's health first! Really, I wouldn't be concerned yet, if baby is still breech in about 12 wks, maybe talk to the doc about turning him/her.

I, myself had a breech baby. She was breech from my ultrasound at about 32 weeks. I am actually a Chiropractor and Acupuncturist and did what I do for other women to help naturally turn the baby (with out any force). But, if the baby can't move, she won't move. I ended up with a C-section because my baby was feet first instead of bottom first which can be dangerous. We found out when they did the C-section that the cord was wrapped around her neck and that is why she couldn't move. She is currently a healthy 12 week old and even though I would rather a vaginal birth, like I did with my first, I am recovering just fine with a C-section. I was also very thankful for modern technologies, because my baby and very possibly I, myself, could have died otherwise.
If you want to contact me directly to try the acupuncture, go to my website, www.bcoh.org or email me at [email protected].
Good luck to you.

Hi! I have a 6 month old boy and he is was breech. He never flipped before I had him. They did a couple more ultrasounds than usual as I got close to my due date, just to see if he flipped. They had a C Section scheduled 5 days before my due date. They even gave me an ultrasound the morning of my C Section just to give it one my look to see if he flipped. The stubborn little guy wouldn't budge = )
Everything was fine with him. He had no issues because of it. He had an ultrasound on his hips which is a routine thing to do for breech babies.
I know your worried but the chances of her flipping on her own are very good, right down to the last minute = )

I agree with the other moms. I know it is hard not to worry; all of us moms worry about our unborn children and then spend the rest of our lives worrying about them too! It is highly likely that she will flip, but if she does not and you have to have a c-section, it will be fine. In fact, I have had one vaginal birth (my first son) and two c-sections (twins, then my last son); and I would opt for a c-section any day. Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy. Best wishes for a safe healthy delivery!

My baby was also breech at 20 weeks. I was getting ultrasounds every 4 weeks because of the position of my placenta and baby stayed breech to either 28 or 32 weeks, I can't remember exactly but I remember I had resigned myself to the fact that the baby wasn't flipping but he did.

I would definitely not worry if I were you. With my son, he was breach up until 2 days before I had him. I also had a friend whose baby turned while she was in labor. You still have plenty of time. They are constantly on the move in there and you are only half way through your pregnancy.

Good morning, Sarah! When I went for my 20 week with my son, he was breech at the beginning of the ultrasound, but by the time the procedure was over, he had already moved!! You're right, you do have lots of time for her to move around all she wants!!
