I have known more than one mother who felt the way do. In each case the baby turned before she went into labor. You have plenty of time.
My mother tells the story of when she went to the hospital with me. The doctor had been telling her that he thought I was breech. She was scared as well. When she went to the hospital he told the nurses to prepare for a breech birth. He had just seen my mother a few days earlier and I still had not turned. They prepared, he examined my mother and told the nurse not to worry about it, I was in position.
I know you must be worried, but either way everything will be alright. The technology today is awesome, and there are so many ways to help baby and mama. Congratulations!!
My son was breech for quite some time. He actually did not flip, so we went through a procedure of "turning" him, 2 weeks before his due date. This was done at the hospital (just in case of a problem) but it was simply my obgyn and the neonatal specialist using their hands on the outside of my belly to rotate him. They have an ultrasound and fetal monitor going on at the same time. I researched this at the time and it was extremely low risk. Worst case scenario, an immediate c-section. All went well for us! Don't get me wrong....there was pain involved! But no more than 10 minutes. That is their limit for how long to try this procedure. My son had actually started to drop in his breech position, so this was harder for us than most. Still it was short, simple and it worked. Did I mention there was pain involved? (Ha! Ha!)
Point being, it was fine for him and there were no complications. The worst case....you have a c-section. I didn't want to do that either, but realized if that's what it would take for a healthy baby, it just wouldn't be that bad!
20 weeks is only half way to the finish line. Pregnancy is a worry roller coaster, but try not to let this upset you. Baby has plenty of time to flip. Both of my pregnancies were like this. They were breech, then not, then breech, and still came out head first. They like to do gymnastics in there. :)
My son was breech at 20 weeks too. He turned and I had a very good delivery. I admit I don't remember the week he turned, but I too was very worried. Best wishes.
Most babies are in the breech possition at that stage in the game. The usually will flip a couple of times before you go into labor. Usually, there is a point when the baby will drop to prepare for labor a couple weeks before they actually come and if they are breech at that point, then it might be cause for concern. My first one was right on track and in the right possition for a couple of days and then decided that she wanted her comfy spot back so flipped back around and was coming feet first. We had a c-section and everything was perfectly fine. I know a lot of people are scared to death of c-sections but they really aren't that bad if they are done right. Everyone that I have talked to that has had a horrible experience with a c-section has had to have an emergency procedure which causes a lot more problems. If it is planned and the doctors and take their time, it is no big deal and I have even know women who have done it both ways and prefered the c-section to complications that they have experienced because of a big baby that made them rip really bad. You and your little one are fine. Stop stressing about it and enjoy it all while you can.
My daughter was breech up until 30 weeks. I was worried all the time too. She turned over just about the time I was totally freaked out about a cesarean. It's completely natural to worry. Everybody tells you not to, but what do they know?
I am currently 29 wks pg and am high risk so I see a perinatologist every week. All the way up until last week, my baby was breech. Now it's head down. I fully expect the baby to move back and forth for the next few weeks. I am not concerned though. With having sonos every week, my baby has been in a different position every time. Don't be concerned as you do have plenty of time.
HI,
My first son was Breech for my entire pregancy, after talking to the Doctor we did not try to turn him, she told us that sometimes there is a reason the baby is breech and as long as he is not stressed out, no need to worry. I had a scheduled c-section and not any problems what so ever. I will say though towards the end I was very uncomfortable because when most babies are supposed to be dropping, he remained high, and the reflux was awful! But as long as the baby is fine that is the main concern, and I believe as long as you have faith things will happen as God intended them to. Best of luck to you, and if you have any other questions about what I went through having a breech baby, I would be glad to help. My e-mail is [email protected]

It has lots of things you can do to encourage the baby to get into the proper position.
I've had a cesarian birth and a vbac (vaginal birth after cesarian) and please believe me, the cesarian is absolutely worth avoiding. I so wish someone had told me while pg the first time that I could take these simple steps. After the cesarian I had lingering pain for 5 months, after the vaginal birth I felt pretty good. (well, I was really tired for a day or so)
I'm not telling you this to scare you, you will probably be okay either way, just to impress upon you that it does matter, and you can at least improve your odds by being proactive. Good luck!
My baby was breech until like 28 or 30 weeks. I was worried too, but they assured me there was plenty of time for him to turn. And he did. I ended uphaving a c-section, but for a totally different reason. I know it's easier said than done, but don't worry, it'll probably move just fine. Good luck.
You've got a lot of great responses, so I'll just add my 2 cents.
My baby girl was "transverse" at her ultrasound...meaning she was lounging out long-ways across my belly. At 22 weeks, they told me not to worry at all...that once she got bigger I'd feel her doing somersaults and be able to tell her head from her butt. It was so true! I had a little gymnast in there! From one day to another, I could feel that her head was up or her butt was up in one corner or the other, or she'd S-T-R-E-T-C-H out horizontal and make my belly look like a scene from a horror movie! Ultimately, she turned head-down and stayed that way, but it wasn't until much later(I really don't remember when, but I know she was doing flip flops for a LONG time!) Remember, at 20 weeks, they are still very small (I wasn't even feeling movement until 22 wks)and they have A LOT of room to turn around and around and around! So for the time being, just enjoy your little acrobat doing her thing in there! Good luck!
Your baby has plenty of time to move. Worse can scenero a c-section? I think there is more risks in trying to turn the baby than having a c-section. I had both vaginal and c-section with my kids. I was beyond scared of having a c-section and wanted to take my big ol belly and skip town at the thought of it. But It turned out fine! If you have any questions about it you can pick my brain. I always felt better when I asked a million questions. But your baby will probably move and you will have nothing to worry about. I know its pointless telling a pregnant woman not to worry because thats all I did. And still do for that matter!
you're only half way through your pregnancy. Your baby has plenty of time to flip. most babies are breech until the end of the pregnancy and then they normally flip. My third daughter was born breech. I had a chioce of csarean or vaginal birth. I chose vaginal. It took a long time, but she was ok. The only problem we had was jaundice and that cleared up in a couple of days. Try not to worry right now. Enjoy the experience and if by the last few months the baby hasn't flpped, then talk to your doctor about options.
I would not worry, your baby does have plenty of time to "flip". At my 24 week sono my baby was in normal position but when I went into labor we found out that she was breech, but first. When it ws discovered it was too late and I did deliver her vaginally, thanks to a great Dr. I she does not flip like she is supposed to there are things that Dr"s can do to help motivate that to happen. And if not well that is the way that it is and it is not the end of the world, your Dr. will probably do a C section and all will be well!
My little man was breech at 30 weeks and he flipped and was born vaginally without any complications. I don't know if it helped or not, but I did get on all fours every night (thanks yoga!) for about 3-5 minutes at a time. It took lots of pressure off of my lower back and was 'supposed' to give him more room to move around. Like I said, I don't know if it worked, but he was head-down on birthday.
My son was breach at his 20 week ultrasound as well. We had to go back 3 weeks later for another ultrasound and he had already moved out of that position. Don't worry!!
Thank you moms for sharing your stories. It is safe to say that worrying is natural.I feel baby moving all around but have yet to distinguish where her head and bootie at this time still to small.I plan to do some research later on if she is in breech later in my pregnancy and will do some exercises to help move her as well.As far as my pregnancy i’ll take it easy and enjoy the rest of it this may be my last baby I have.Best Wishes to all of you
