Is First Years or Evenflo Breast Pumps Any Good?

When my son and daughter were born premature, the WIC offices where I lived provided a motorized Medella pump supplied from a medical supply store. Obviously this was very good. I know that Medellas are sold in Target but I also seen other brands. Is there an "off" brand ie, Evenflo, First Years, etc. that is comparable but without the price??

Career - What Would You Do?

Current situation: After 15 years into your gig you have a job that pays six figures, is a fairly easy job. You're tenured and there is very little chance of getting whacked since there are at least a dozen hires below you. You get breaks and summers off. Your work environment is supportive and nurturing and your boss rocks. However, you're exceptionally bored at your job and the passion you used to have has been snuffed out. You feel like your talents and skills could be more beneficial in another field and you simply cannot imagine...

"Your Baby Can Read" Program: Does It Work?

Okay, so I got sucked into the infomercial about the "Your Baby Can Read" program. One of the results is that children as early as 2 are reading books like Charlotte's Web. I used the "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" when my daughter was 3 1/2 and it worked well -- she's now 4 1/2 and can read Step 3 books. I specifically liked it because words were always spelled correctly when taught and it showed her the keys to pronouncing words, so really she can unlock almost any new "regular" word on her own. I hesitate with the "Your...

Who Pays for College...?

Are we as parents obligated/responsible for paying for our kids college? In a perfect world we would all have started a college fund when they were babies and at college age it would be enough to put any of them through the school of their choice.... but I digress. Let's put anyone's financial stability aside for now. I don't think it is our obligation to pay for college, should we help if we can sure, will some loans be incurred, sure. But as far as a yes/no answer, I say no. What say you... My son DOES have scholarships already to...

Yearbooks in Elementary School?

I received a flyer from my son's school announcing pre-orders for.... Yearbooks?!? My son is in Kindergarten! I'm having a hard time stomaching the idea of buying and storing 13 yearbooks! On the flip side i'm wondering if I will be the only parent that says no. I'm not sure it's worth making him be the only kid who does not get one at the end of the year. Does your child's elementary school do yearbooks? Do you buy them? @stitch, that is an interesting thought. I was less than pleased with the school photographer. The class...

Trouble with Homework

Hi Mamas, Anyone have trouble getting their 1st graders to do their homework? My son has quite a bit of homework each night (spelling homework, math homework and reading every night). He complains that it takes to much time, whines and cries, and so it does end up taking a long time each night. Its not too hard for him, he just seems overwhelmed by the amount and then doesnt want to do any of it. I try to get him to focus on one thing at a time, but that doesn't help. Thanks in advance for your advise.

School or No School

Hi Everyone, I have a dilema that has come up recently. I decided to take online classes. The first one I really enjoyed and did not have trouble finding time for it. I now am in the second class, and instead of 3 assignments a week I have betwen 5 and 7. The teacher even has homework due on Saturdays and Sundays. In my spare time I work at a photography studio three times a week. I also volunteer and have many mom's groups I attend. I just want to know your thoughts on school and whether I should continue it, or postpone it again? I...
