Help with Sick Child

I am needing some advice with my sons health. He is 3 years old, will be 4 in August. He has allergies to food, pets and outdoor irritants. He also has asthma. It seems like he is always sick. Either a virus, strep throat, ear infections pretty much the common things that children get - but it seems like he ALWAYS has something. Winter time is the worse. His asthma is under control with medication - we did have a rough winter though and he was on Prednisone 4 times from about Nov. - March. He sees an allergist and a dermatologist regularly,...

Zyrtec Vs. Nasonex

My 2.5 year suffers from a chronic wet cough. It's been months and months and the cough is still there. At one point, we gave him Zyrtec per the dr's recommendation and it cleared up for alittle while but then it came back. Nasonex helped another time but then it also came back. Now I'm at a loss - do I have to give Zyrtec and/or Nasonex daily to keep the cough away? Or is it on an as needed basis? What's the difference between the 2 medications and which is safer? How long have your kids been on it? Thanks!

Adenoids & Tonsils

I'm looking for feedback on shaving adenoids and tonsils at age 6. After one treatment of anti-biotics and Nasonex, a Pediatric ENT has recommended surgery. My son is a mouth breather, but does not snore excessively, does not have sore throats, does not get ear infections however he does have disrupted sleep (wakes often with dreams) and does seem over tired that may be correlated with difficult behavior at home. He manages well in school. Anyone's experience in this area; both having the procedure and opting out of the procedure at the...

Congestion Since Birth

My son is 5 1/2 months old. He has been badly congestion since he was born. He gets choked up and gags a good bit when he drinks his bottle. He is always either with a runny nose or stopped up nose. He is currently sleeping in a swing to keep him elevated at night. He is on Soy Milk. Also, he has had a cough for a good while now. We have been to an Allergist, and they have him on a Saline Rinse, Decongestant drops, Nasonex, Arithamycin, and Robitussin. I had him at 39 weeks with a scheduled C-section. And he was in the NICU for the...

Children Seem to Be Sick All the Time

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on trying to keep kids healthy. It seems that this past winter and into the spring my boys are constantly sick with either the flu, colds, rotovirus, or even ear infections. I work in the healthcare field and am a nut about cleanliness, i.e. washing hands etc. Should I be giving them vitamins or any other nutritional supplement such as Pediasure to help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am at my wits end!

Homeopathic Remedy for Allergies

Hi Moms, I have a 4 year old daughter that has chronic sinus infections. She has been sick since she was born with ear infections, viral infections and sinus infections. She has taken antibiotics since birth too. She has been tested for allergies and is allergic to pollen and other enviromental allergens. Her father is asthmatic and believes in western medicine and taking allergy medicines. Now my little one is allergic to antibiotics, namely the penicillian family of medicines. The only one that she can use is a strong one, Biaxin. ...

Use of Nasonex & Singulair in an 1-Year-old

My little boy will be one next month. He has been on a variety of medicines throughout his life, primarily for GERD. We saw an allergist last week to get him tested to see if he is still allergic to milk & soy. While there, the doctor said that he was wheezy and would like to try allergy meds to try and help that. While he didn't say it was asthma, I wonder if thats what it is. It seems like we are always fighting a consistent cough at night (atleast one week per month). He prescribed Nasonex and Singulair to be given every night. ...

Singulair and Nasonex

My 8 year old son has had a persistent cough for about 7 weeks or so. I took him to the doctor 8/19, and they took an x-ray of his lungs. The doctor diagnosed him with mycoplasma pneumonia, and gave him an antibiotic that he took for the prescribed 5 days. The cough has not gone away so we went back to the doctor today. Unfortunately is GP was out on vacation so we had to see a different doctor. This doctor gave us samples of Singulair and Nasonex (nasal spray). After reading online about the two products, I am not so sure they are...

Ways to save on Singulair and Nasonex

I am looking for ways to save on Nasonex and Singulair prescriptions. We do have insurance, but last time I bought Nasonex it was still $75 I think. I'm not sure how much Singulair is since we got the first month for free, but I have heard it is expensive. THe Nasonex site has a coupon for $15 off and Singulair has one for $20 off. Anything else I can do to save? Do the different pharmacies charge different prices or are prices uniform? Currently we go to Walgreens. Thanks!

Advice on Allergies and Asthma in 4 Year Old

My daughter will be 4 in July and we have had two trips to the ER since January due to coughing fits and once by ambulance because she stopped breathing (found out she had pneumonia). I saw an allergist who said she definitly has Asthma. He prescribed Zyrtec, Nasonex, and Advair. I don't believe my daughter needs all of these medications and I'm seeking a second opinion this week. I gave my daughter the Zyrtec and this morning she had a coughing fit, followed by vomiting. I won't give her the Advair until I see a Pulm. Specialist. I...

My Four Year Old Trouble Sleeping

My daughter has been on Zyrtec and Nasonex for over a year. I just recently took her off of it to see if she still needed it. She hasn't shown signs of allergies but now she isn't sleeping very well. She is normally a very heavy sleeper. Now she seems to wake up a lot and has trouble going back to sleep. Has anyone else had trouble with this? I really don't want to put her back on medicine.

Help !!!! 3 Yr Old Isn't Gaining Weight...

I have a little girl that has been diagnosed with Asthma, an allergy to tree pollen (although the doctor said she most likely has more allergies – she is a bit young for good test results) and JRA (Juvenile Rhumitory Arthritis)… we are also having issues with weight gain – lack of that is. She is 3, well will be next week and I’m kinda lost on what to do for her lack of weight gain. We receive W.I.C., so the Summit County Health Department is weighing her every 3 month and just don’t understand why she isn’t gaining any weight...
