If he keeps having this over and over it might not be he is fully healed each time, I would not mess around with this ask for a specialist, we lost a famous actor today from the same thing, he needs to have his lungs xrayed
Hi all, my son will be 4 in October and this is his 4th time getting pneumonia since March 2006. We get antibiotics and we're usually back to healhy in a few days. This time it seems to be staying around a bit longer...the fevers started Sunday afternoon, waned since we got the antibiotics late Tuesday and I just left his room at 11:30 PM - he seems to have a fever again.
Has anyone else dealt with their child being suseptible to pneumonia? Any ideas as to what will help him strengthen his immune system or how to help him feel better?
Thanks for taking the time to read.

S., Im sure that a shot is not the answer youre looking for, but have you talked to your pediatrician about the pneumonia vaccine? It works wonders!
Hi S. - I'm so sorry you son has had to go through this. I know it's hard to get a 4 year old (or any age for that matter) to eat enough fruits, veggies and whole grains every day as hard as us mom's try. Please give serious consideration to adding Juice Plus gummies to his daily routine. Eating a diet rich in a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains will make a body function better and strenghthen the immune system. He should be getting 5-9 cups a day and if he doesn't get that every day, then Juice Plus is a nutritional seatbelt. The independent research done on Juice Plus shows it to be very effective in strengthening the immune system and improving immune funtion. By making sure he gets his Juice Plus gummies every day, over time, you should see improvement in your son's overall health. I can provide you more information on the research behind Juice Plus. Just email me at ____@____.com and check my website at www.Caprice4JuicePlus.com. I wish your son good health and you peace of mind knowing he's getting the nutrition he needs to make him better, instead of all those antibiotics if they can be avoided.
Well, I agree w/the last post. Food allergies is a distinct possibility. You can have your pediatrician do a simple blood test to determine if he has allergies and how severe they are. You can then do a food allergy eliminiation test to see if he's allergic to foods. We did this w/my 4 year old son w/o seeing an allergy doctor (my older son has allergies so I'm pretty familiar), and you can do it that way, also, if you choose. You'll need to get a good book to see how to do the test--it's really important to do it correctly and to follow it 100%. My husband, other son and I did it right along w/my younger son (it's such a strict diet during testing, it's so much easier if everybody does it) and I discovered 2 hidden food allergies for myself. I found 4 for my son!
I wish I had some answers, but I do have some ideas. My son is 4, and had walking pneu last year and the real deal this last Feb. The doctors said he has asthma, but I think it is induced by sickness. Do check for asthma, also, because maybe it starts with respiratory distress with your child and then gets worse? Also, my son is a thumb sucker, and I wonder if he is getting more germs that way. Working on that.
I also agree with the allergy issue. Try a neti pot to clean out the sinuses, because I hear it helps avoid sickness.
good luck
Hi S.:
I have a 10yr old that had pneumonia 3 or 4 times when he was little. My advise to you is to talk to your pediatrician and request a referral to see an allergist. GOOD LUCK to u and your son hope everything goes well. CONNIE
I do not have experience with a child being susceptible to pneumonia, but I had pneumonia in January and then again in April. Because of it, the doctor had me have a CT scan. The CT scan showed that I have bronchiectasis which is a widening of the bronchial tubes causing the mucus to sit there and get infected and makes the person prone to infections like pneumonia. Children can get this as well from repeated lung infections. Ask your doctor to have a CT scan run to see if there is a reason for the pneumonia.
Hi S.....
Just curious....has your son been tested for cystic fibrosis or any other chronic illness? It isn't normal for a child to get pneumonia this often.
S.
I had walking pneumonia twice and was sick constantly as a child with upper respiratory infections. It wasn't till last year that I discovered (via a naturopathic doctor) that I have severe food allergies. Since I have modified my diet, and added some good probiotics and nutritional supplements, I have not gotten a cold since. As a result of these changes I also feel more energetic.
