Yes, Zofran does work, at least it did for me.

I threw up damn near everyday of my first pregnancy, right up until the day I delivered. When I got pregnant with my second my doc gave me a prescription for Zofran and it was a miracle drug for me. I felt like myself, no nausea and no vomiting. I don't remember having any side effects. I took it everyday (from 7 weeks on) of my second pregnancy, right up until delivery.

I would try it if I were you, it made a HUGE difference for me.

Zofran saved my life! I was diagnosed as a high risk pregnancy. I couldn't keep anything down and Zofran got rid of that so I could eat throughout the pregnancy.

The only side effect I had was a headache every day... but verses the vomiting...I lived with it.

Zofran allowed me to eat during my pregnancy. I seriously could not keep a bite down without it. I took it every day from beginning to end. I experienced no negative side effects, neither did my son.

I used Zofran with no side effects. It worked fabulously. It was expensive - even with our good insurance I paid a $50 co-pay for 30 little pills! I almost left the pharmacy w/o them, but was so nauseous I thought I was going to throw up right there. I paid for them, opened them immediately and popped one in my mouth. It dissolved and headed for the car. I started feeling better as my husband drove me home and within 15 minutes I was actually feeling human again.

I saved them for the really bad days (3-4 all-day days out of 7). On the other days, I drank ginger tea and sucked on crystalized ginger candy. Note that I hate ginger, but it worked really well and the benefit outweighed the taste. I also tried ginger ale (real ginger ale: Hansens - not the fake-flavored kind that's next to the Pepsi) and it was really too sweet. I found that cutting it with club soda cut the sweetness w/o totally diluting the benefit.

Good luck - I know it's miserable. :(

Hi, Cass:
Zofran use in cases of N&V in chemotherapy patients.
Are you taking Prenatal Vitamins and Minerals?

Look in the book: "Healing without medication."
It suggests:
Take a multivitamin and mineral supplement daily.
Vit. B 6: 30 milligrams daily
Ginger 250 mg, 3 times a day.
Go to your health food store to see what you
can use as an alternative to this drug.

The high level of estrogen production is causing this N&V.
Hopefully, this will production will level off after a while.
Good luck.

Zofran does work. I've taken it before. I strongly urge you 'not' to take any medicines while pregnant. Tylenol is the only thing that is safe to take.

Everyone's body is different and responds differently from side effects. There are common side effects, but also rare ones.

Eat a bland diet to help your stomach for now. Nausea is part of pregnancy and it can last the whole pregnancy.

I don't know if your OB/GYN prescribed you Zofran, but I really don't think you should risk taking any meds with pregnancy. Even the ones they say are safe. That's what they said about Zoloft during pregnancy that it was safe to take, and now children are being born with all kinds of defects.

It's tough to go through being sick and all. The pregnancy already takes a toll on your body and when you can't keep anything down, it makes it worse leaving you feeling so fatigued. Hang in there. Just eat little by little a bland diet to help your nausea. Dry Toast, Apple Sauce, Banana, and Rice.

Hope you get to feeling better. :-)

Yes! it's wonderful, no side effects (that I had). I had terrible nausea during my 1st and 2nd trimesters, still have some now at nearly 38 weeks. I wouldn't have been able to eat anything without it. Most importantly, it works FAST! Usually nausea gets better at 14 weeks, so hopefully you're almost done!
Hang in there, drink cold ginger ale slowly too. Don't let yourself get too hungry, dips in blood sugar can cause nausea. Always have crackers on hand for "emergencies!"

I was given Zofran 7 weeks into my first pregnancy after I lost 12 lbs in 3 weeks and was hospitalized for dehydation, I couldn't keep ANYTHING down. I was given it again at the begining of my second pregnancy and didn't need to be admitted because I was able to keep stuff down. Both of my girls are just fine. I don't know if I would have survived the first pregnacy without it....really, I wasn't able to keep anything down without it.

I dont know about pregnancy but its a standard ordered anti nausea medication for almost every patient after surgery. side effects include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, constipation, fatigue and dry mouth.
Sorry you don't feel well, (I remember being nauseated during the entire first 4 mo, but it did get better). Hope you feel better.

Yes, Zofran saved my life. I had severe nausea... the entire 9 months of my last two pregnancies. It was the only thing that remotely helped me not be hospitalized.

I didn't have much side effects than a little bit of fatigue, which really is a pregnancy symptom as well. The benefits far outweigh the risks. I also tried Phenegrin, bu all it did was made me feel tired and loopy and I was still nauseous.

I know how you feel-but it's probably going to subside in a few days-do you have to take something?

I used it during my third pregnancy. I am one of those lucky few who has morning sickness all day well into the 6th month. Zofran kept me from vomiting but I still felt sick to my stomach all day. I had to take something for a little while to help with the stomach acid...ranitadine (Sp?), I think it was called.

I always hate taking stuff while I am pregnant but I really needed something.

Good luck...and congratulations!

Medicines during pregnancy are not to be taken lightly, but in certain instances, the benefits outweigh the risk. Zofran works, but like all drugs, it can cause negative side effects; and one study recently highlighted a potential problem with people who have underlying heart problems, so I'd recommend getting yourself checked out to rule that out before taking it.

One of my friends has HG (hyperemesis gravidarum -- "really bad pregnancy sickness") and has to take Zofran and other things during pregnancy to keep any food or liquid down and keep out of the hospital; however, in this current pregnancy (her 3rd), she happened to discover that her nausea and vomiting were more manageable than in her other pregnancies, and it seemed to be linked to her following a very low-carb diet. She happened to read about that between pregnancies, so went on this diet as soon as she even thought she was pregnant (i.e., as soon as her nausea started -- even before her period was late!), and discovered that as she strayed from the diet, her nausea and/or vomiting increased, but if she stayed on it, it was manageable with just a few medications. It seemed to be related to her blood sugar levels, and even good things like fruit and whole grains would upset her levels and cause a high followed by a low, and make her sick.

Anyway, you may want to try a very low-carb diet, just to see if it helps.

Everyones different but my gf used it for her morning sickness and it made her head hurt so bad it wasn't worth it. My aunt used it for chem side effects and it too made her head hurt. I used phenegran for my sickness. It can make you sleepy so I took it before bed and my mornings (and all day ) we're no longer a nightmare! Hope you feel better.
