emmy wants to be a paleontologist astronaut who dresses like spiderman and sings like MJ, shes wanted to be this since she was 3 and shes 5 now....I think she'll be a teacher

First my daughter wanted to be a bus driver, then a teacher and now and this is now certain she wants to become a chef. She alreasdy took some cooking classes and today she has orientation for an advanced cooking class, we looking into a program that help with paying for cooking school and I am looking into scolarships ( on is from the foodnetwork). This is what she wants to do and is really making her happy, I wish you all could see her face when she is at the stove cooking something tasty.

She used to want to be a "baker at Chick-fil-a".
We tried to redirect her to having her own bakery shop. She wouldn't have it.
So I directed her interest in animals towards being a veterinarian.
She's stuck on that right now.

DS is only 17 months...right now I think he wants to be DJ Lance Rock. ;)

I remember looking at my oldest, minutes after he was born and thinking, he will be a funeral director. Yeah my ex's family owns funeral homes, and he is the fifth. They are so stupid they have to number their men so they know what generation they are in. :p

My older daughter was around 12 when I was sure she would be an attorney. She will graduate next May with a major in sociology and a minor in marketing.

She is planning on taking her LSAT next summer. :)

My next is 12 and he is as nerdy as I am. I am thinking math or science.

Then my little drama queen who is 10. She will either be an actress or another attorney. :p

My daughter always liked to draw, just like most kids. She always colored and created her own pictures. She also wrote stories and showed incredible talent at this early on. She liked the stage (small parts, but loved being there and dealing with the costumes), so I figured she was at least destined for a creative career. When she was about 10/11 her drawing took a very serious turn. WOW factor. She mostly disliked school and it was a chore to just get her there and to do well in classes on top of all of that. But not any more. Now she is among the right people. HER people.

She is a senior at an Arts High School and we are working on college applications for an illustration program (but she also excels at other art forms like 3d mixed media art, sculpture and graphics). She hopes to get paid to do art and enjoy working at it her whole life! I very much wish this as well for my only child!

Have you seen those insurance commercials, the ones featuring "Mayhem"?
I'm pretty sure that's what my 3 year-old aspires to.

This reminds me of my daughter at her kindergarten graduation when all the kids were asked what they wanted to be when they grew up. When they got to my dtr she said she wanted to be a big sister. It was too cute and I actually was pregnant with my son at the time. The other parents got a kick out of it.

But as far as what I think what she will be. Well she's very strongwilled and argues about everything.....so maybe a lawyer??

As far as my son, seeing how he's only 2 it's hard to tell. If I had to go by what he likes right now, it would have to be something with big machinary, trucks, etc.

My 20 year old daughter had always wanted to either be a teacher or a nurse. Right now she has her sights on being a dental hygenist. But she keeps changing so we'll see.

My daughter is 16, cheerleader and plays the violin.

We are currently checking out colleges. She is much like my hubby and I, very driven, goal oriented and failure is no option.

Right now, she wants to go to Duke or Penn State (both hubby's alma maters) and focus first on business. She'd LOVE to cheer for one of the schools if she can work that into the plan.

She loves fashion design. She has a sketchbook full of adorable dresses, etc. She has a sewing machine and enjoys creating things. Her dream right now, is to study fashion in Milan Italy AFTER her business MBA and study violin in Rome.

She enjoys the designing end of the busines over the merchandising end and has dreams of a store in New York, Dallas and LA.

Reality.... I can so see her doing this. She is a powerhouse girl with lots of work ethic, drive and motivation.

SHe is already learning a lot of business by helping me with our family company. I run all financials (CFO) and I show her how to do a lot of the accounting aspects of it.

My son (2) will surely be in some sort of janitorial position. He loves trash cans, helping with the trash, toliet bowl brushes and cleaning the toliet and sweeping. My mom always says "No he'll be a CEO of his own cleaning company!" He does love to take things apart and figure out how things work so I can hope towards something with engineering!

My daughter told me she wants to be a mommy like me! So I've suggested a day care provider or teacher. But she also loves animals (as I'm sure most kids who are four years old do!) so maybe vet!

When I was a kid I wanted to be a pediatrician or a bagger at Krogers (seriously..it looked like fun!) but ended up working in the computer field! Who'da thunk?

My daughter (6) will either be a Marine Bioligist or Vet...she loves animals and has always had a facination with marine animals.

My son (3)...hmmm good question...whatever it is I sure hope he wears a hard hat...at this point a paleontologist or monster/ghost hunter.

So far my daughter has proven that she should be an attorney ..She will and negotiates until the very end.

My 7 y/o plans to go into the military then he wants to either follow his Daddy's footsteps and be in law enforcement or become a veterinarian. I think he will end up being a veterinarian, if we can keep him motivated to keep his grades up.
My 3 y/o...still too young for me to get any kind of idea.
My 16 y/o SD ~ I'm just hoping she graduates from H.S.!!!

well, no matter what we want/prefer, it will be their decision & not ours!

& so many parents in our circle of friends/family.....just don't get that all-important fact! I could easily list for you the # of young 20somethings who've dropped out of college, because they just could not continue on their parents' chosen path. It is soooo sad....

That said, my older son began school interested in the business end of the engineering field....working toward management & supervisory positions. Due to his physical disabiliity, he ended up dropping from school to pursue a hip replacement. He is now in a position where he is headed back to school next Jan (hooray!). Completely blew us away when he announced that he was interested in either radiology tech or air traffic control. !!

Wow, where did this come from? The radiology tech I get....he's had 18 years of x-rays for his hip....& a couple of other broken bones/sprains/etc. He's very familiar with this field!

The air traffic control.....whoa! He's been in a helicopter & that's it. But, if you put together his computer/video game addictions....his ability to stay focused on that screen.....+ his outstanding grasp for spatial elements....then it all makes sense! The high suicide rate does not concern him, because he swears that since he survived his childhood dealing with his physical disability....then the pressure with the job will be nothing compared to what he's already lived thru. He's even considered the fact that the field has a mandatory retirement age of 56.....& that's about the time that the drs are saying that he'll be back in a wheelchair. & as he says, he'll have a federal govt pension at that point. Again, WOW! How did he get this all figured out? !!

On the other hand, my younger son has always been an absolute car freak. My best friend swears he'll be a car designer/engineer. He swears he'll be a commercial airline pilot, with military experience behind him. He's 15....we'll see!

my kids are still too young to tell. but i can/could tell there favorite color before they could talk. my son showed inereast in yellow when a friend brought over a crib toy (mirror and other play things attached to it) the back was yellow and she layed it down with the back side up. my son stared at it. if some one was wearing yellow he would stare. when he was old enough to say what his favorite color was we were right it was yellow. my daughter likes orange! she is almost two and dosent speak much. as a child i always loved art and wanted to be an artist...i am! i think its very likely you are able to tell what your child will want to be at a early age. some occupations are more difficult for a child to understand and wont be able to express those until much older. like therapist.

Our oldest will be an engineer. My dad's a retired engineer and our son is showing the same aptitudes -- great in math and science, very mechanical.

Our youngest seems to be taking after me and just may become a writer. She's already creating her own books as a kindergartner, which is something I used to love to do.

she loves to sing and dance. Her dad and his sister are both very lucky to have such talented voices and can play any instrument in front of them... but neither can read a lick of music! She is always singing and its crazy but she can do the different pitches and carry a tune already. She also can draw very detailed for a 3yr old so she may have some of Daddy's artist abilities in there also... not sure if she will follow those thou or not.

My daughter is almost 6. Given her propensity for arguing and NEVER letting anyone get the last word, I'm guessing she will be an attorney!! HAHA If you ask her, she says she wants to be an artist.

My son who is almost 4 is such a daredevil that I fear he will do something dangerous for a living, like racing cars or mortorcycles or be a stuntman! When asked, he says he wants to drive a tractor for a living.

I'm fairly certain my son will join the military. He may also have a career in construction, or architecture, maybe building bridges and highways.
My little daughter is so bossy and so confidant. She asked me when will she be the President of everybody, as thought it's just a given, so, I'm going to have to go with POTUS.. JJ for president 2036!
My oldest, even though dad wanted her to be a scientist and I wanted her to be a sonogram tech, nurse, radiology, something inthe medical field, I always thought she would be a model or a trophy wife. So far she is doing a little modeling, but not dating any millionaires that I'm aware of.

I can answer as an older M. who has 3 grown children and a 9-year-old. Our oldest son is an engineer, which came as no surprise because math was always very easy for him and he was interested in how things worked. I thought our middle son would be some sort of scientist because our bathroom sink, freezer, etc seemed to always have one of his "experiments" in them. However, his many years in speech therapy had a tremendous impact on him. He now has a Master's degree and is a speech therapist himself! Our daughter simply had the goals to be a wife and mother, working at Randall's... all are out of her reach now, as she became severly mentally ill at the age of 18.
My advice is to love and encourage them whatever stage they are at and continue to love and believe in them throughout the easy times and the rough times. (our daughter's dr. says her biggest asset is her family support)
Oh, and our 9-year-old is very much like his oldest brother so I suspect he will be an engineer also...we'll see.

I strongly suspect either Law Enforcement or Journalism.

His passion of the past couple years has been videogame design (he's 9)... but at his CORE he is and always has been absolutely INTENT that other people are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Which is at the core of both professions.

My husband and I joke that our son has a future in furniture moving. He's only 20 months old, but he's strong as an ox and loves carrying around heavy objects! LOL!!

I know my son will have to do something physical I am sure!

My 4 yr old NEVER stops talking, bosses people around, she ♥'s star wars, & she ALWAYS wants to be on the computer!

I have a 19 yr old that I am still wondering about. He's "finding his path", whatever that means. One year of college and he decided not to go back even though he has no clue what he wants to do. Never had a job because he was always getting tutored two or three times a week while he was in school. Finally I made my husband hire him just to get him out of the house and working. He was always "looking" for a job which seemed to entail filling out online applications and nothing else.
His original goal was professional skater or rock star. Unfortunately he is very shy and I'm pretty sure you need to be a bit more outgoing for those performance type jobs.
Next option was biologist until he flunked out of his college biology class. Photographer? Artist? I thnk he's back to professional skater since that is what he is doing with his free time.
I tell him all I care is that he is a self supporting member of society. Can't even get him to agree that is a good goal.
Most days I just hope he finds a nice girl to support him.
My middle will be a stylist. Or TV personality.
My youngest will be President. Or a high dollar lawyer. Chef. Entrepreneur. All of the above. She says she wants to be like Barbie and do ALL the jobs. Maybe she can support her big brother.

But we often joke it will have something to do with shoes. Ever since she could grab an object she has gravitated to shoes. She also likes to take shoes off your feet then put them back on, or put different kinds on your feet (not just her own, other peoples). She also likes to make you walk in them. We used to have to tell people if they take off their shoes in our house to hide them. lol.
So....shoe designer?

My oldest wanted to be a car wash when she was little...not work at a car wash, she wanted to be a car wash. I'm not sure what she'll be but it will hopefully make use of her very impressive artistic talent. Some days she wants to be a tattoo artist, some days a translator as she very interested in learning about other cultures.

My youngest? She'll either be a lawyer or need a lawyer. She's always looking for a technicality.

I am certain my 3 yr old son may become an engineer of some sort. Just watching him with toys or whatever. He is very very interested in how things work and what they do. Or he could be the next big soccer star. You should see this boy with a soccer ball. Other parents stare at me like he's an alien or something when he gets going.

My 6 yr old daughter wants to be the ice cream truck driver when she gets big. We're hoping for some bigger ambitions!!! I can see her working in the food industry, or maybe in the beauty world with hair and makeup.

My oldest is 6 and we've been saying for awhile we think she is going to be a fashion designer. She loves to dress up her sister/cousins and send them out for a modeling show. (She used to dress herself, now its just them) And she has always been VERY into what she is wearing since she was 2. She loves to accessorize right down to her shoes. I keep telling her she has more shoes than me!

My youngest is 4 and she has loved to be in the kitchen helping with cooking for I don't know how long...so we like to think she is going to be involved in the culinary world. :)

My dtr, 11 has always said she wants to be a rock star. But now at almost 12 she says she wants to stay home and "raise pets". Ok...

My 8 yo son says he either wants to be a cop or a monster truck driver. Lately he's decided he wants to build roller coasters. Ok...

I have NO idea what they will be but can't wait to see! As long as they are happy I will be happy for them. =)

My son wants to be a teacher, but I have a feeling he will end up being an engineer. He changes what he wants to be every year or so. When he was little it was a fireman, then he realized what they really do and changed his mind. He wanted to be an animal rescuer like that cartoon fora while. He loves animals so I thought maybe a zoologist, but the past year or so it's teacher. I tried to explain that once he gets to college he will need to see how the job market is and make sure to minor in something else as a fall back. He's 10 going on 11 so we still have time for him to change his mind 100 times more.

My 3 year old son LOVES animals (has since he was tiny)...specifically farm animals. I mean, we took him to the local fair last month and it was everything I could do to stop him from KISSING allllll the sheep lol! So, I think he will be a farmer maybe, or a vet. He is also very sweet and loves babies and always takes care of his "babies" at home...so maybe even a SAHD :)

My daughter is 5...for a long time she said she was going to be a
Doctor-Ballerina...not one or the other, a combo of the two lol. Now she says Ballet Teacher. Sometimes she says Artist. She shows a lot of interest in computers and creating things. She draws constantly. I guess only time will tell! :)

My daughter has wanted to be a "famous singer" since she was 12. She's taught herself to play the guitar, written over 100 songs, posted covers and originals on youtube, got offered a contract with a record label and is performing at the state fair next month...and she's only 16 so I'm thinking that since she's been so busy since she was 12, that yeah, she'll most likely be a famous singer one day...LOL

My son right now is interested in building things and anything to do with science. Who knows what the future will bring but its nice to see him so excited about learning something new because of his interests. I have a 7 year old.

My oldest is a few months shy of 17. When she was little, she always loved cartoons and animated movies. Maybe all little kids do, right? But she just knew everything about them, and was never into live action movies. Then, she started drawing all the time. And she has musical talent -- first the guitar, then the viola, and now she's learning basic piano and how to compose and arrange music. So I knew early on that she would do something creative. Initially we thought marketing (designing ads, etc.) and/or a graphics designer. But she had an epiphany in the 8th grade and she is pursuing a career in the animation industry! I'm so not surprised.

My 12 year old -- she's still a mystery. she says she would maybe like to teach, preferably elementary age students. She's got the right personality for it! But it's too soon to tell with her . . .

My son is three. Last month I would have said a pilot. Now, I would say a chef/food critic/blogger. He LOVES food and watching and helping me cook. His favorite "center" at school is the kitchen. He likes computers/gadgets too.

Still to early to tell, but I have fun just guessing :)

My 9 y/o son wants to be a video gamer deigner, but he also loves to cook and has some physical disability struggles and he and I have talked about him, being the one to "find the cure", not that I expect that opf course.
My 6 y/o just has aspirations to be a wife, and mom. I feel bad sometimes because even though that's what I am I wish she would set her sights on more. I am not unhappy, I guess I feel like I fell into this at 19 years old, and I want her to go to college and find herself first. She is very artsy and loves to write and create so maybe something there, although her favorite pastime is taking care of her 3 y/o brother :)
My 3 y/o wants to be a farmer ( I think he means rancher, lol), and Daddy. I think that is very cute and would suit him well. But I could also see him in the spotlight because he is a performer at heart and his greatest joy is appearently making others laugh because he is always striving to do this.
On another note my sister was very much the lawyer personality and guess what she is currently a parraleagl (sp?) and in law school. We always knew she would be a lawyer, and we were right.
