Yeast Infection During Pregnancy - Frisco,TX

I think I have a yeast infection and I am in my second trimester. My midwife prescribed me a topical cream, but I am scared that it will harm the baby. I tend to try to use natural remedies where possible. I have been taking (since symptoms started) a probiotic. I tried using garlic, and had a skin reaction to it. Has anyone used a topic cream for a yeast infection during pregnancy? Is it safe? Do your children have any side effects?
I don't mean to sound paranoid, but I worry about exposing my baby to any chemicals. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Early in my pregnancy I had a bacterial infection very similar to a yest infection and had to do a prescription medication. Late in the pregnancy I got a yeast infection and my dr said to do the OTC 3 day Monistat. My son was born 9 days ago and is just fine!! At first I was concerned about it, but I know the dr's wouldn't recommend something unless it was safe.

stay away from sugar and eat lots of yogurt with L.acidopholis(I don't think I spelled that right- ) It helps restore the natural balence of good vs. bad bacteria. Sugar really feeds the yeast and keeps it growing- so it's good to lay off of it at least while you are getting this cleared up.
I'm 31 wks pregnant and have just gotten over a yeast infection- I ate greek yogurt by stonyfield farms- it's organic. It takes a couple of days for it to start clearing up. They also have Acidopholis pills that you can take- alfafa pills are supposed to be really great and safe for clearing it up too- but you have to take 10 at a time and your breath smells like grass!
Good luck!

have you tried taking odorless garlic gel caps orally? That will help as well. You can also apply a liquid probiotic (or organic sugar free yogurt) directly to the skin for soothing releif. Especially if it has been refrigerated. Garlic can be irritating to the skin but when I have an "issue" I insert an odorless garlic gel cap vaginally before bed. There have never been any sensativity issues or burning for me. I would not rub it on the outer skin though.
I would also avoid any type of sugar intake. Yeast just feeds on sugar and will only make your symptoms worse. Eat plenty of yogurt but make sure it is not full of sugar.
Hope this was helpful.

I had a monster of a YI when I was preggo and was scared to use anything to. My doctor who is excellent and sits on the board for a few panels( major player in the on/gyn world) assured me it was okay. She said it is VERY common in pregnancy bc of the surge in hormones. I tried monistat which didn't work and had to get a rx for another and baby who is now 4 came out perfect so no worries ...hope this helps.

you can get some plain yogurt and empty out a douche and fill the douche with the plain yogurt and do it that way..it sounds gross but it works well!!

I think I had one the entire time I was pregnant. The cream is safe. The OTC monistat or similar are fine, even with the inserts and topical cream. Also if you back off on your sugar intake that will help. Yeast needs sugar to survive. Sugar comes out in your urine. Eat yogurt, low sugar if you can find it and continue with the probiotics.

Dont worry about it it's very common to get yeast infections during pregnancy. I had 3 while I was pregnant with my youngest and was told to just use monistat and had no problems. My daughter does have some problems but they were all because she was taken to early not because of any chemical side effects. I also had yeat infections when I was pregnant with my oldest, treated it the same way and he has no health problems what so ever. You need to get rid of the infection as it will only get worse.

I had to take many things during pregnancy. I had a yeast infection, kidney stone, and was sick. My kids came out just fine. He doesn't sleep much, but pretty sure it's genetic. Make yourself feel better and take the medicine. I know you have to be miserable. Good Luck!

I used it and had no problems. Topical is just that, it stays on the skin or the vast majority of it does. Sure, a minute amount may be absorbed but the odds of any of that making it through the placenta and to your fetus are slim to none. Drs/Midwives wouldn't prescribe a medication if they knew it had any real potential for harm to the fetus unless the mother's life was at stake or there was some other major issue. I don't blame you for being concerned but to be honest, you have more to worry about with the air we breath and the toxins in the food we eat. Use the meds and feel better. You being uncomfortable and miserable is worse to the baby than anything else.
