Does anyone know of any legitimate jobs that allow me to work from home? I'm just looking to make a few extra dollars and can work 10-20 hours a week. I was looking into online tutoring (because I have a degree in elementary education) but I can't tell if it's legitimate. Any advice would be wonderful!

What can I do next?

A friend of mine did some work for Papa John's as an order taker. I don't know if they're still doing that though. Also, you might need some training or something but I think there are opportunities in the medical coding or medical transcription area.

My friend is a single parent of 4 kids. One being special needs so she needs to be home with him. To help fill in the gaps from child support, she works for Convergys. It's a call center. They receive inbound calls for people ordering various products. She makes a decent amount of money, has a pretty flexible schedule and has worked there for about 2 years. She seems to enjoy it. I attached a link for you. I don't know if it's available where you live or how that works but all the info is on the site. :) Good luck on your search!

Oooh -if you have a degree in education, check out online curriculum companies! KC Distance Learning/Aventa and many others offer great, part-time and full-time work from home opportunities. I've been working for KCDL for the entire year 10-40 hours per week depending on what I told them I had time for and what projects they had available!

It's a work-at-home jobs board. They vet all their posters to make sure the jobs are legit. You're not going to make $5000 a month or retire early on any of these jobs, but you can find 10-30 hour/week jobs for a decent wage. You do have to pay a small fee for "lifetime access" (which I was very nervous about at the time) but it's totally worth it. I found a job on this site in Feb 2009 and have been working at it ever since.

Some of the jobs have regular hours, some are totally flexible. Sales-type jobs are available, but the vast majority are general office-support related work, writing jobs, and some more specialized accounting and industry-specific data entry jobs.

This is the recruiting site for the particular job that I've been doing, but there's lots of other options.

You are right to be wary about this process - I was really careful, and took my time to do my research. I was not at all interested in selling anything, and most of the "writing" jobs are initially a lot of work with little return (they can pay off eventually, but I just needed to start earning an hourly wage.) There's a lot of scams, a lot of promises of huge returns, all of which set off loud alarm bells for me.

I started out earning about $500/month, and after a promotion about 9 months ago, I'm now usually earning around $700/month. Like I said, it's not going to turn you into a millionaire, but it sure has filled in some gaps in our financial life. (If you look at the link above and are interested in the specific job I've been doing, feel free to send me a message, I'm happy to talk about it in detail.)

Good luck - you can find good online jobs out there, but you do need to be thorough in your research and wary of scams.

I had been a teacher of the adult blind and my friends who shared Reliv with me were teachers in the public school system. Reliv has been changing people's lives for 22 years and we are publicly traded. We also have a foundation that is feeding over 42,000 every day, mostly children and many in 3rd world countries. I can connect you to other moms who are able to stay at home with their children and absolutely love the heart and integrity of Reliv. Here is a link to my website https://livelife.reliv.com. Enjoy!

Hi S.,

I've been working from home for over 17 years. Both my husband and I were able to quit our teaching careers because working from home turned out to be such a good financial decision. I've helped hundreds of people to earn income from home. Send me a private message and I'll give you more info. You can determine if this would be a good option for you.

(With the winter storm that's coming tomorrow, it's a great thing to be working from home!) :)

Enjoy your day!

I just started selling Usborne Books. They do parties and bookfairs and sell to libraries and bookstores. I've also got an elementary ed background and these books are fantastic! For me, I need to get out of the house a little bit for my own sanity, so that's why I'm excited to do this. Check out my website www.ubam.com/L3131 for more info. I'm not in it for the money, I really do love these books and I'm just super excited to share them with everyone I meet.

Depending on how good your editing/English grammar skills are, you could also look into doing editing for small press/publishers and e-book publishers. They don't pay much, but if you're interested in working at home and building up a base of authors doing content editing--and providing your authors are fast writers--you can potentially do quite well. It's a lot of work, though, but you get your name as editor inside the book! Extra perk.

I've been working for an e-book publisher for almost 5 years now, and I love every minute of it! Keep in mind, though, that you will work as a freelance contractor, so all taxes, etc., you pay. However, since I've set myself up as a small business, my expenses and my income pretty much off set each other.

I'm not in it to make lots of money; I'm in it to allow myself the means to stay home as a mom to a special needs child.

Demand Studios is always looking for writers and copyeditors. Their test is very demanding, but if you pass the muster, they have more than enough to keep you busy, and you can easily make $300/wk, if not more. I passed the test, but so far, I've been so swamped with editing for others that I haven't taken the time to work for them as well. It's VERY fast-paced and demanding (when they say 30-40 hrs/wk, they mean that's how much you'll work), so that will need to figure into your schedule and preference.

There are some companies that edit and review school papers for college students. It's tricky to get your foot in the door because you have to know AP (and sometimes CSE) style and pass their tests before even submitting your resume. But they pay very well. A friend of mine started a company that did this called Mindbounce but apparently they recently went under.

Otherwise there's always in-home childcare. My husband has a single dad coworker at the fire department that was looking for a caretaker for two 24 hour days per week. If you find someone like that then you'd make a decent amount of money and still have 5 days to spend with just your kiddos.

So may of the work at home jobs are scams.
But I know the ligit home based compaines are okay. Look into Mary Kay, Tupperware, Avon, Party Lite, etc. I have a friend who has been a Tupperware lady for many years and makes decent money at it. If you want to PM me I can send you her contact info.
