I am having work related problems. I have a 26mth old and a 7mth old and my current employer said I need to look for another job. I was told that my 32 hr a week schedule doesn't work for the firm, that I lack accountability because I have to leave when my kids are sick and that I put my kids first and they need someone who can put the company first. I turned down 2 other job offers to come here and was so clear about what I needed and expected, so nothing was a surprise. I feel like I was lied to and cheated. I am lacking self esteem now and worried I wont be able to find another part time job. WHen I was pregnant with my second child I was looking at telecommuting opportunities but wasn't able to find anyone willing to try it. I just need some encourage and someone who might know of a company or job that would allow telecommuting. I thought about watching other children since I love kids but I am worried that I might not find 2-3 kids and then would be short money wise. Plus my husband has no healthcare through his job so I don't know if we can afford independent healthcare. I jsut want to raise my kids and spend time with them but those goals seem to conflict with my field of work (CPA). I don't want to put work first because it isn't my first priority and never will be. Why is society so work oriented instead of family driven? Other countries all give you one year or more maturnity leave but here we are expected to work 50-60hr weeks with infants in daycare. I am worried about finding something that wont require long hours and who will understand the demands of young kids in daycare. Any advice or encouragement would be so appreciated. I wanted to move in with my mom so I could stay at home but my husband doesn't support it mainly because he doesn't want to be financially strapped and his parents both worked and thing daycare is great.

What can I do next?

I can give you a tip, didn't work for me as they require a 4 year degree, Editfast.com...an excellent site to make extra money. I only have a 2 year degree! ARgh, I feel your pain..my son is 3, and sickness is like a weekly event here!

Hi B.,
I understand what you're going through, and it's very difficult. For 'society' to change, it's going to take people with family values and flexible work ethics to start moving into management plus positions and make a change. Maybe one day.
I was wondering since you're a CPA, is there something you might start at home or as a consultant related to income tax? I don't know if that's an area you know, but some CPA's provide full tax services to individuals or small companies out of their homes. It's just a thought. If looking at telecommute, I would look at the larger corporations because many are now trying to cut down on overhead but not services. I know some of the insurance companies in town are moving toward more flexible arrangements.
If I hear of anything I'll let you know...hope this is a little helpful.
P.

Hi B. - in my book... work should never be your first priority - you children and family are. It has been a while since your post, so I am hoping that you have found something great.

I am new here - just saw several other inquiries - so will share with another copy and paste...

hope it helps -

Hi Tina,

I have worked from home with a couple of great companies, and right now am most pleased with Send Out Cards. I got into it originally to grow and support my downline in a juice business, but this program appeals to everyone - and it has really simplified my personal life when it comes to shopping for cards and even gifts.

I have a website for you to check out - with a free gift card so you can get a feel for it.

You select a greeting card from over 13,000 - then personalize it (even in your own handwriting)- and Send Out Cards (located in Utah) will print the card on gorgeous glossy paper, and mail it out for you - for about a dollar per card! You can even add photos... wow - I would have gone crazy with this one when my kids were little!!!!

Busy Moms LOVE it - so do Realtors, Doctors... anyone with a business (see the Business sectiion in the card catalog).

I used it this year to help my Mom - now 92, who sent out over 100 Christmas Cards - with a photo - all personalized - it took about 10 minutes and the click of the SEND button!

Oh - you can even include gift cards - like a $5 Starbuck Gift Certificate, or a box of brownies! There are also books, kid items - even pet items.

Best part is you can try it out for Free - as I already have the gift account set up. Then if you want to start slowly - to see if it fits your style... you can get your own account for only $25. That way you do not have a large investment while you learn!

Many companies require large start up - or expensive monthly auto ship or websites... I consider Send Out Cards to be a no-risk to learn, and an excellent opportunity to earn.

It is also the ONLY company who does this! So you won't have any competitors - other than Hallmark and American Greeting who charge an arm and a leg for a card!

I LOVE Send Out Cards - with the philosophy of "Changing the World - one card at a time" - and Giving to Give.

Check it out - be sure to watch the DVD - and let me know if you have questions.

Hi B.,

I saw your response to another post and thought I would send you a message, just in case this is something you might be interested in more information on.

If you would like to just try out doing home parties, but without shelling out a bunch of money to get started, please go to my site at www.partylite.biz/votiveconfidence. Unlike almost every other home party company out there, PartyLite gives you the opportunity to try it out for FREE! If you find it's not for you, you get to keep your kit, the money you've made so far and walk away, no catch.

The great thing is you also have support and training from people who have been where you are in your business, business aids, etc. and there is no limit on how much you can make...it's up to you if you want to make $300/month or $300,000+. You also don't have to worry about making deliveries, keeping inventory to sell others, and again, no investment! Not to mention, who doesn't love candles?

I hope you'll at least go to my website and look it over. If you would like more information (no pressure, that's just not my style), just fill out the Contact Me page on my site and I can send you a CD-Rom and some other info so you can make an informed decision for yourself.

Thanks again,
A.

I have been where you are and I know exactly what you are going through. I too get so frustrated with society and its requirements for work and how they conflict with family.
Try working with a temp agency. They are more flexible on your hours and they can provide insurance as well.
Also, I would recommend home child care for your girls vs a daycare. Homecare providers are a bit less demanding on when you have to pick up children and I feel offer a bit more one on one than a daycare can offer.

I noticed your request and my heart truly goes out to you! It just amazes me how unforgiven some companies can be where families are concerned. I am here to tell You that your wants and needs are truly reachable. It may take some time to reach them as all good things sometime do but surely this is attainable. I know because I was actually wanting to stay at home with my children and yet still earn an income, well due to unfortunate circumstances I became injured and now I cannot work the job I use to so I searched out some ideas and found this www.themomteam.com/anewlife It has been a God send and Blessing for us all. best thing about it I'm working from home and loving it!
We’re on a mission to help you do the same!
