This may not be what will work for you, but why not try working at a Mother's Day Out or Daycare? Sometimes they have flexible hours and of course you can bring your child with you.
The reason I bring this up is that I'm currently working for my son's montessori school in their MDO program only 3 hours/day (from 3 pm - 6 pm) and my children will get to be in the same room with me. Plus it would give you good resume experience, once you have your degree.
Working from home is tricky unless you have certain skills or connections. The ones I'm most familiar with are database coding (where you would summarize documents for law firms in litigation). Medical transcriptionsts would do something similar. It helps to be a fast typist because you get paid by the record. I would look for litigation support companies if that interests you (I used to work for one, so send me a separate e-mail if interested). You could also try stuffing envelopes for mail houses. Sometimes they allow you to take projects home, but I might not recommend it with a 17 mo old boy around (my boys would have destroyed anything like that lying around).
I'm currently a freelance graphic artist and direct mail consultant and have found a couple of steady clients that allow me to stay home and work. I'm also a distributor for a greeting card company called Send Out Cards, a relationship and network marketing company. I don't have any inventory and all my sales & training can be done over the phone.

If you get involved in any kind of MLM company or selling from your home I would do your research. Talk to other people who have joined and what their experiences have been. Like anything else, you get out of it what you put in and it probably helps to be more of a people person.
Hope that helps, good luck! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or to explore any of those options.
