I am a new OB patient at WIH and learned that the OB I got in to see typically has very long office wait times (2+ hours is normal). I do not have an established relationship with this doctor (that was my first visit) so I am trying to decide if there is a better option at the same office. I was told by the office manager that Dr. Lopez is newer at the office and has short wait times since her client base is not as established. Does anyone have experience with Dr. Lopez or any other doctors at this office? Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your comments! I came to the conclusion that the office is not a good match for my personality and I made the switch to Dr. New, based on many great recommendations!

Hi A.! I have been going to Dr. Lopez for the past year and just love her. I have never had to wait more than 20-30 minutes and she is very personable. She always takes time to answer my questions and never makes me feel rushed (like she has to get out of there and on to the next patient). I would give her a shot!

My guess would be that you have coulter-smith just because it seems like her wait time is always forever. I use Dr. Walters, and I rarely have to wait long. Dr. Allen also has a short wait time (I used her when Walters was on maternity leave). Dr. Kendrick delivered #2 for me, and I really liked her, but don't know about her waiting time. I didn't even know there was a Lopez there, but all the drs in that office are very much alike in how they do things. The only complaint I have is nurse practitioner Arden who is not friendly and is often incorrect in her diagnosis (FYI), so I always ask for Ruth or Cindy if I have to see a practitioner.

Good luck. If you have Coulter-Smith, I would change to someone else. She just seems super busy.

I have seen Dr. Allen for several years. They have overcharged me on copays for 6 months until I finally had to get my insurance to call them and tell them to stop. Their staff is rude. The insurance lady called me after only 60 days and basically demanded payment for a 25.00 copay by credit card over the phone, even though they failed to ask for it when I was there. I hadn't received their 60 day statement yet. On the clinical side, after 9 months of complaining of chronic yeast infections they finally diagnosed me with lichen schlerosis . The standard of care is poor and the nurses are cold and uncaring. I say do not go to WIH. There are plenty of other options.

I am right there with Melissa D! I just had a baby 4 weeks ago delivered by Dr Tim Rost. I was a VERY high risk pregnancy. My 1st daughter came 2 months early even though I was on bed rest almost the entire pregnancy. I made it to 38 weeks this time! I don't have a single complaint about his office. Dr New in the same office is also wonderful. I never had to wait more than 5 minutes for an appointment and I had to go every week from 4 months on, and even twice a week in the last month. The nurses get back to you very quickly too! You will not be disappointed with these guys!

WIH however, I had nightmare experiences with them! All sorts of problem, waiting forever was only the tip of the iceburg!

I used to see Dr. Barbara Coulter-Smith for regular annual exams (pap smear, etc.) Due to her wait times, I began seeing one of the nurse practitioners. I don't know if this is recommended for an OB patient but for my regular check ups, I felt it was no problem. I can't remember the NP's name but she was very knowledgeable and I felt I received more attention.

I love Dr. Katrena ____@____.com is very personable and her team is wonderful. She delivered our daughter in 06 and will deliver our son in November. Her wait times are not that long. Good rule of thumb, try to get the morning appointments, they seem to go faster.

Good luck!

I used Dr. Kindrick at WIH for all my OB visits last year and she averaged about an hour in office. If you can get your appointments early in the morning or the first appt after lunch you shouldn't have such long wait times. Dr. Kindrick was wonderful, though. To me, she was worth the wait. Good luck!

Hi A.! If your not an established patient at WIH, I would run away! I was a patient there for about 3.5 years. At first things were great, I got used to the long wait. But when I was pregnant, I started seeing the doctor less and less. She was always out and that left me with the NP. One time I waited in the office for a total of 4.5 hours!!! I was not happy, especially when I found out that most of the staff had gone to lunch and left me sitting back in the exam room! After the birth of my son, I was having lots of problems and I couldn't get them to do blood work or listen to me. They just excused me as a mom with post partum depression (I wasn't. I was having a reaction to the meds that they put me on!) After I sat in the office for 3.5 hours at my 6 week post partum exam, I left the office and went to a doctor at Harris HEB.
Good luck.

I use Dr Cope in the office and sometimes I've had to wait a bit but for the most part not too bad. When I was pregnant I saw her for the majority of the time. When I go in just for annuals then I usually see her NP which is usually a very short wait.

I am a patient of Dr cope. I understand your frustration. She has delivered my first two kiddos and I am pregnant with my third. I have noticed the wait time has significantly increased since my first pregnancy. It is not uncommon to spend two hours there for a belly check. I will tell you this though...I have pre-eclampsia issues with each pregancy that can be very serious and I have received the BEST care I could hope for. They are very on top of my situation and any time I have ever had a concern or issues I have been able to reach Dr. Copes nurse with no problem. I think that obgyn's are in a tough spot because the malpractice insurance is so high they have no choice but to take on a large patient load. I will say, a friend of mine is a patient of Dr. Lopez and she had placenta previa and was hospitalized for a long time. Dr. lopez was great! All of the doctors at WIH have the same general philosophy and are all great! Good Luck in your decision!

I've been going to integrated for the past 5 yrs and really have only seen the actual dr (Dr Cope) while I was pregnant. For all else, I see one of the nurse practioners, whom are wonderful. They do not have the wait time issues. I was just there last Friday and had a late in the day appt and only waited about 10 mins past my appt time.
Hope this helps!

A.,
I hate to tell you this, but the wait times are due to how they're managing their appt book (booking multiple appts at same time), so as soon as Dr. Lopez builds up her client base you're going to have the same problems. If you haven't established a relationship with anyone at WIH, I'd suggest you look at going to another practice.

If you're interested, I can highly recommend Dr. Tim Rost at Baylor Grapevine. Staff is great and I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes to see the doc - ###-###-####. There have also been OB/Gyn recommendations on MamaSource before, if you want to check those out.

I have Dr. Coulter Smith and I did have to wait about 1 hour at my last visit. I was getting a little upset waiting till my friend walked in for her visit. She told me she never minds waiting because she knows that the Dr is giving another women special attention that needs it and she would hope her Dr would do the same for her. She had a good point. I really like Coulter Smith, she's sweet, easy going, listens and I'm excited about her delivering my first child. It's a tuff to change but from what I hear, all the Dr.'s there are great.
