Where to Buy Ballet Shoes

I recently signed up my 2.5 yr old in a "mommy and me" dance class starting in June. They recommend "soft soled dance shoes and tap shoes" which is kind of funny to me, how much tapping is she really going to be doing...but ok. Where do I get them for a reasonable price, since she'll probably grow out of them in like 5 mins!

What can I do next?

I got my daughter's ballet shoes at Target and tap shoes at Payless. I still didn't like paying 22.99 for the tap shoes. But she's been in two sessions of classes now though Gilbert Parks & Rec, so at least they're getting some more use. Plus, you can also buy a little bigger because at the store it tells you how much extra room is ok to have. If you're doing a class through Gilbert Parks & Rec I know I saw a bulletin board (in the McQueen Park Activity Center) where people were selling their tap shoes. You might also try Craigslist.

I got my daughter and son's shoes at Savers for about $3 or $4. You could also try any other thrift store like Goodwill or D.I. They always seem to be at the thrift stores when I go. I used to teach parks and recreation dance classes to little kids, and it's fun for them when their feet make noise for the brief time they do wear the tap shoes, but really bare feet or socks for the ballet and hard-soled shoes (like church shoes) that will make a little noise are fine for the tap. You don't need to go out spending a ton of money at this age. It's just for fun and I can't imagine that the teacher would get on your case if your daughter doesn't have the shoes. It's just kind of fun for the kiddos to make noise with their feet.

sounds like you already know where to get them, just make sure you buy them a size bigger so for now she can wear them with thick socks, and then when your 5 minutes are up she can wear them with tights. :)

You may want to try Payless Shoes or Target. They usually stock them when school starts. Or you can check online at discountdance.com. Sometimes a dance studio will have a bulletin board for other students to sell shoes they no longer wear. Good Luck!

I"ve recently bought a descent price ballet shoes at Payless Shoes, and you're right they only last for a few months because the their feet grow fast. You can also check on your dance academy if they have old pairs you can use.

All of the dance studios I attended over the years had shoes for sale and the studio. I would check and see if that is an option.

Payless has them for girls, you will have to find a specialty dance store for shoes for boys.
