I was just at Academy off N. Tarrant and 377 and they had both tap and ballet shoes. Also try Payless Shoes...I know they are there as well :)
Hi Moms,
My 2 1/2yr old daughter is going to take dance for the first time in August. Where should I shop for her ballet and tap shoes? I don't want to spend a fortune!
Thanks!

Payless Shoe Source has ballet and tap shoes and tights. If they don't have your daughter's size they can find a store that does and will give you a coupon to use if you go the store that has them.
I don't recall the name, but there is a dancewear outlet at Grapevine Mills you could try. I sometimes find some good deals there. When you get a good fitting and know your sizes you can order online at www.discountdance.com.
We use Kim Lee on Harwood Rd, just east of Precinct Line Rd (taking Harwood from NRH, they're in a strip mall on the left-hand side). But for a two-year-old, I would suggest the Payless route for the shoes and Target for the apparel. We have to use a specialty shop because the dance studio gets a little more picky about color and style once they get a little older...gets pricey, too. :o/
The Dance Shop on Forest Park and Parkhill in Fort Worth has everything you could possibly want in dance wear. I use to be a co-owner and sold it to a friend. The Texas Ballet (use to be called Fort Worth Dallas Ballet) buys all of their dance wear from them. They have very experienced people that work there and know how to fit the shoes properly. I know it may be out of your way but, it is worth the drive. You can also go online and order from their catalogue. Just google The Dance Shop Fort Worth Texas.
MOM,
Payless.... they are beginner quality shoes and as fast as she will be growing you should not put to much into the shoes.... as for the dance wear ... Babies R Us has some as well as Toys R Us.... to put a plug in for you to consider: I work for Harmony Photography... we do specialized portraits at a very affordable rate ... please take a moment to look at our website ... we can create a package to capture her first year of dance and make you a memory album that lasts forever.... all digital and giving you the opportunity to print only the ones you love.... call me at ###-###-#### or email at

Have a wonderful day and Happy Dancing!

Target has some stuff online - dance shoes, leotards, etc.
Surprisingly, I just spotted some at Academy in the footwear section. I don't remember the prices.
I own a dance studio and have been teaching for many years so my advice would be to check and see if your studio has a requirement on what type of shoes they want you to purchase. I would strongly caution you to not buy any dance shoes from places like Payless, Wal-Mart or Target. Shoes from an actual dance shop are not going to cost you that much more than the ones at the other places. Also I do not allow my students to have them from those places because they are not made well at all. There is a BIG difference between a play ballet shoe and a real ballet shoe. I send all of my families to the Dance Shop in Ft. Worth. They have great service and have been in business a long time. I hope this helps :)
I dont know if it is to far to drive but in there is a dance store closing in White Settlement off 30 and Cherry lane. everything is 25 percent off right now....i went in there yesterday and bought a dance bag and ballet shoes for 20 bucks.....If you want more info just message me.
