Try Wilmette Bowl or Pinstripes in Northbrook!
We love Wilmette Bowl for the M. and pop feel - not sure about cost for parties. We just go as a family as we live nearby!
Good Luck
My husband and I are planning our 7-year old's birthday party. We are at a loss of what to do because we have had parties at the Skokie Exploratorium, the Jump Zone, Kiddie Kingdom and I think at 7 boys have started outgrowing some of the obvious options in the Skokie, IL area. My son, wants to have the party at home, but I don't want all the kids in my house. Are there any unique ideas for a 7-year old's party?

There's a Sky High in Niles (trampolines) where they can also play dodgeball on trampolines. You could do a game truck, although kids seem to have them starting around 8yo. Have them start off in the game truck then give a very short window for food and cake so that the boys get picked up before they start getting restless and tearing around your house.
There is always the option of renting a room somewhere--hotel, park district, church, YMCA, and getting an entertainer. Check out Chicago Parent magazine, they have a LOT of ideas. You can usually get it at the local library if you don't see it anywhere else. If your son is asking for a party at home, he probably doesn't want a huge deal this year.
We did laser tag for my 7yr old's party last year. I'm pretty sure there's one in the burbs too.
And this year, he's asking for indoor skydiving, which we'll probably do with just a couple of his friends. We're getting past the point of the giant parties (read: I am), and we're going to do more stuff like an overnight with a buddy or two to a water park, or stuff like that.
