Go to meetup.com I am in 3 groups right now and they are all a lot of fun. Out and about mamma, 2007 babies( there is also a 2006 babies) and new and expecting moms(this one is for babies so not for you). Lil explores might be a good one for you try. they are for a little bit older kids where this two groups are for around 1 year olds. There are lots of things to do on the calander all the time and the company is really nice. Adult conversation is a life saver in the middle of the day. If nothing else they can give you really good ideas where to go. Mostly they have park play dates. but we also go to the zoo, coffe shops, play at moms houses, and have parties for the whole family.

I have a 2yo boy and we live in Fremont. I take him on lots of walks and to different parks and playgrounds. Lake Elizabeth has the stream that someone already mentioned. It also has the large lake, several playgrounds, ducks, geese, lots to see and do. There is a small pond between the soccer fields and the big lake, and that is fun to look at too (something different).

There are few nice parks in the Niles area of Fremont. If you park at 3rd street park, there is a playground, and access to the creek and ponds. There are ducks, and lots of turtles that live in the ponds which you can see from the paths. It's really fun for the kids to see.

On Walnut is a place called Tule Ponds at Tysen Lagoon. I'm not sure the hours, but they have shceduled activies...swing by and check it out, or go to msnucleus.org. Byington Park in Newark is fun on a hot day (there are water features for the kids to play in).

The libraries are great. Check out the Alameda Co. website for dates and times of library activities...

A fun, close, easy day trip is to Happy Hollow park and zoo in San Jose. It's really only a 20 minute drive if you miss traffic.

Other fun trips - lots of beaches if you want to go to the coast. If not the coast, my son likes the Berkeley Marina. They can see boats, bridges, birds and other wildlife, people flying kites, all kinds of stuff. I haven't taken my son, but I used to go to Coyote Hills as a kid. During the fall, be sure to check out Ardenwood Farm for pumpkin patch, hayrides, stuff like that. Also, Take her for a ride on the train that runs between Niles and Sunol. This is especially popular during the holidays, but would be fun all year round. Oh, I've also heard Shinn Park is a great place in Fremont. They have a rose garden, which the kids usually enjoy. If you want to travel a little more, try the Oakland Zoo or Tilden Park.

Lots to do...I've lived here my whole life...Hope these suggestions help!

There are plenty of places (as you can see from your responses) to take her, but definitely try out Gymboree in the Fremont Hub. While you usually have to "schedule" a class, you can try out the first visit for free. Definitely worth it--both my 2 and 4 year olds love it! You may also want to see what types of recreation activities the City of Fremont offers.

When I lived in fremont 30 years ago, there was a stream running into the lake at Lake Elizabeth that the kids liked to play in. I don't know if it still has water in it. It was near the large playground area and the bridge.

Sunol Park is a good to get out into and hike. It is in the foothills and rural. They have picnic tables and grills that are next to the stream. My kids like to go get wet there and try to catch the little fish in buckets. It is probably better for kids 4 and up since a stroller would not be feasable there and the kids would need to walk.

There is Play Cafe in Oakland and Habitot in Berkeley, The Jungle in San Jose, and A Kid's Castle in Newark. I've never been to A Kid's Castle, and have read some seriously mixed reviews about it. The others are a ton of fun for kids.\

EDIT: There is also Sulphur Creek Nature Center in Hayward. It is at 1801 D Street in Hayward. It is a wildlife rehab place with some permanent displays that are unable to be released back into the wild for various reasons. There is no charge to get in. Also, right across the street (up the hill a short way) is a huge park.

It does sometimes feel like everything for kids is "somewhere else" for those of us in Fremont. There are lots of great parks. You can also go to drop in sessions at Pump It Up in Union City on Tuesdays and Fridays. There are also story times at all of the local libraries and at both Borders stores.

hey J.! have you tried Pump It Up in Union City? it's a place where they have a bunch of blow-up slides, bouncy houses, etc. and kids just love it (and, if you're an adventurous and able adult, you can play, too, and she'd love that EVEN MORE!!) -
good luck!
smiles,

J.,

There are several parks nearby that are a lot of fun. For water fun, try nearby Newark's Byinton, Birch Grove, or the Newark Community Center's water/swim area. A grander swim area is at Newark's Silliman Center. Lake Elizabeth/Central Park is great for a day to play in the sand, or a walk around the lake.

Indoor fun can be found at Chuck E. Cheese (Newark), Pump It Up, or even City Beach. Further out you can go to Palo Alto Children's Museum, Habitot (Berkeley), the Discovery Museum (San Jose), etc.

My best suggestion is to join the FUN Mother's Club. It's an organization consisting of Mother's from Fremont, Union City, and Newark that meet's once a month. Awhile ago, they used to meet at the Newark Community Center on the first tuesday of the month but you might want to look things up and join. They can put you in a playgroup with children the same age as your daughter and you can meet other Moms who will have lots of wonderful suggestions.

Best of luck and enjoy your home in Fremont.
